India won the toss and elected to field first.
West Indies scored MAMMOTH total of 315-6 in 50 overs.
Marlon Samuels played a SENSATIONAL INNINGS OF 108 not out and helped West Indies to post such a record total in the final ODI of the series.
Virender Sehwag picked up 3 wickets for India.
In reply India were all out for 180 runs in 36.5 overs.
Yuvraj Singh was top scorer of India and he scored 68 runs.
Jermaine Lawson picked up 4 wickets for West Indies.
West Indies won the match and series 4-3.
Marlon Samuels was announced Man of the Match.
Chris Gayle was announced Man of the Series.

This was my first live cricket game i watched in stadium .I was an intermediate student in Nalanda (IGMS Complex) 2001-2003. Those were the golden days in my life.

I remember having my half yearly exam in class 7th in a week's time after this game. My mom told me if I study seriously and answer her questions trust me this game would be a repeat of the Lord's final. But then when I switched on TV set I saw India 8 down.

My first time watching an international match live. I was a 9 year old watching it in the crowd just next to that big bat near long on boundary... I've seen almost all intl matches played in Hyderabad after 2010... But this one remains close to mu heart as this was in my home town

I still remember this series, i was in 8th class in 2002 and in this series team who did bowling first won the matches before this game, and dravid made the same mistake😁😁😁 won the toss and bowl first. However one day prior to this final game, i told to my cousin the team who will bat first will win the game 🤣.

For all those guys who are wondering, Andhra Cricket Association was based out of Vijayawada back then and used to have good infrastructure of cricket practices and matches. This stadium is Indira Gandhi Municipal Stadium which was used for multiple games like cricket, athletics competitions etc. Later on Visakhapatnam became a primary cricketing center for ACA and facilities moved on. At the moment, there are two beautiful stadiums under construction and we'd witness international cricket matches there soon in and around Vijayawada. One stadium in Mangalagiri and the other one at Mulapadu which is nearby Ibrahimpatnam..
Now, all are useless stadiums. Better to repurpose them to audio functions or political plenaries

those days wn ganguly lost all bi lateral and tri series except nat west and one bi lateral wr v dint win but it was tied .... very nice person to have developed solid team but highly unlucky to lift the cups . But he developed a good test side which competed with world best teams and challenged them.
Well.. Ganguly didn't lose much bilateral series... But India were not the best in finals...

Those days Australians were the undisputed champions. But even their ODI batting was never this dangerous.... Exceptional batting by the Windies
In day time odi matches in India,most of the matches team batting first won the matches and the team batting second lost most of the matches and in those days total of 280 and 290 is enough to win matches,not like nowadays team crossing 370 runs win a odi match.
I always remember this match for yuvraj batting without helmet..

West Indies lost a such good fast bowler Lawson.It is one of the best West Indies team ever played in India.Now there is no Indian origin players both in test and odi in carribbean team.West Indies didn't get another Chandrapaul and Sarwan.
