    I love my 18mm AB miniatures, but am happy the Epic Waterloo plastics are getting more people into the hobby.

    I went from 28mm WG to 10mm PENDRAKEN MINIATURES because of costs and size. And for me it was the best decision ever. I love my PENDRAKEN minis because they are detailed and clean when they arrive, ready to paint. And the production and shipping is fast, the service is great. Whenever you have a question or problem, Leon from PENDRAKEN will answer within an hour. Love it.
    Thanks for the video, wish everyone a great time with this wonderful hobby, cheers from Germany 🎉🙏

      I also have some Pendraken miniatures, they are very nice. I would have bought some Korean War Chinese at Britcon this year but already had so many projects.

    I have played Waterloo three times now with the epic models. I use three bases for infantry and two bases for cavalry, apart from the savings it also men's that the big advantage of this scale, the massed effect, is not lost as if you use four bases for infantry the width in line is the same as 28mm!
    I have posted pictures on the Facebook page and when laid out they look awesome, to me.

    I have always loved 28mm, but recently my fellow club member (Hull) offered me epic Napoleonic starter army’s at low prices which I could not resist. Really enjoying painting the epic scale, and can’t wait to play a game with them.

    These figures look much better in person when they're painted than I thought they did from the box images. It's just so many guys, it gives a completely different look to individually based 28mm or 15mm imo. I have six French battalions painted since September (no artillery or skirmishers yet) and am loving it except for spray paint getting a rough texture and stepping on an Imperial Guard command sprue!

    Great review, i painted one sprue i got for free with WI and it took me a lot of time, still not convinced if i should continue the warlord range or try out some AB metals.
    'How to play black powder in 28mm' sounds a bit harsh. As a newcomer to the napoleonics your videos have been some of the best and most informative i have seen considering everything napoleonic related. I had so many questions regarding all the different unit types and formations and where what goes. You explain everything really well and the plastic kit reviews have helped me a lot with purchases.
    Keep it up

  • @nickhindley4295
    @nickhindley4295 Місяць тому +1

    So the epic event in March will be Ligny and Quatre Bras. The idea is to fight Waterloo on June with the real effects from the previous two battles, assuming the French are still a force.

    I'm nearly finished making the British Reserve Corp( Highlanders and Hanoverians inc) and a Dutch Corp with most of the Cavalry Brigades ,all on Wellingtons left flank at Waterloo. And D'erlons Corp and Heavy and Light Cavalry who partook in first days action right flank and all the Imperial Guard because you just have to. I must have a Dozen boxes for all this. That's a Years worth of painting at say 4 hours a night( late nights)

  • @TheAVeidt
    @TheAVeidt Місяць тому

    I would go for half inches, I played quite a few games with both cm and half inches, and cm feels a bit short at times. Maybe have test before deciding for the event (looking forward to it).
    I prefer 4 bases per standard battalion for Napoleonics (the spectacle of battle as you said), but I use 3 bases for ACW regiments and it looks great too. Are you reducing the standard size of cavalry and guns too?

  • @Rusty_Gold85
    @Rusty_Gold85 Місяць тому

    Suggestion ? Put all the skirmishes figures together on 4 per base x 4 to make them the Light Battalion as well as double as Voltiguers. Paint them in the blue trousers

    One intetesting gsctoid from our last Waterloo battle in September this year was that a distant descendant of Grouchy flew in from the Channel islands to the charge of some of the French who dud rather well. • @NapoleonicWargaming
      @NapoleonicWargaming  Місяць тому +1

      @scarfacejosh123 I'm lucky enough to play at a club so for 28mm usually we use full ranges on an 8 x 6 board. When playing on a 6 x 4 I reduce the measurements by 1/3

  • @norm977
    @norm977 Місяць тому

    I prefer inches for all scales and typically scale measurements in rules to 2/3 so 12” becomes 8”. The Peninsular expansion is understandable, when the Austrians and Russians come, they will be much bigger investments by Warlord Games in terms of the number of sprues needed to be designed.

    Sorry if the question's a bit off topic/outside your purview but i just wanted to ask for some advice.
    Some friends and I are trying to make our own sort of Napoleonic Wargaming system from scratch. Our case is a bit of an odd one, since the wargaming system is supposed to accompany a wider text-based Napoleonic Nation-RP (that's the best way I can describe it) and so we also need to keep into consideration the wider 'game'. Our main point of contention is time: we want to play out battles (in an accurate manner) but at the same time balance it so that these battles don't take 6 hours to resolve since in any given 'campaign turn' (1 week IRL = 6 months 'in-game') we'll have multiple battles to deal with. Do you have any suggestions on how to achieve this balance?
    Again, our situation is a bit of an awkward one but you're the main Napoleonic wargaming youtuber I know so I thought I might as well give it a shot
    edit: I should probably specify we're doing all this over Discord since we all live in different countries

    I was interested in the beginning but now after the release of more british for a different setting it is not really for me. Could have done Austrians, Russians or even the other Nations of Waterloo, while british peninsular without french, spanish and portuguese are not doing much here
    maybe once they are expanding again outside the british focus but for now, the available 6 or 10/12mm models and going with Blücher is the more interesting option for the small scale

    • @Rusty_Gold85

      @kodosdh I absolutely agree. In fact I was looking st the hundred day Blucher set the other day. Very pricey, but I could be tempted...
      Luckily for the other nations, 3d printing (if you have access to it) has filled the void

    • @kodosdh
      @kodosdh Місяць тому

      @@NapoleonicWargaming I just recently bought the digital rules and going to print everything on my own (planning to go with models anyway)
      The problem with 3D printing is, if one has access to it, no real reason to even consider the Epic plastics any more as the printed ones will look better (specially piano wargames, he is going to be the next "Perry") and the 10 model stripes are rather inflexibile and 5 model stripes on 30 or 25mm bases work better, so you can print units and command as needed (and some extra spare 5 model unit command bases would help a lot)
      Just sad because WG plastics would be more accessable, even if you had to cut the stripes in half, as most stores carry them
      But maybe we see Austerlitz or Borodino in future

    So anything smaller than 20mm is 'small' but 6mm is different...?
    Why not just say 20mm and up is large, 10mm up to (but not including) 20mm is medium and under 10mm is small? It seems silly to call anything 18mm to 2mm (or even smaller) as 'small'. As 18mm is nine times bigger than the 2mms...nine times bigger than 20mm is 180mm and that's HUGE!
    That said, you summed up the reasons for the different scales well.
    Btw, I'm almost finished the ACW project, as regards minis, and will be starting Blücher with Baccus 6mm when that's done.

    • @NapoleonicWargaming
      @NapoleonicWargaming  Місяць тому +1

      @davidbenton8775 yeah, I consider 6mm tiny I guess. I think you can use the same painting techniques on 10mm as 18mm, similarly 20mm as with 28mm. 6mm I think has it's own techniques.

    • @davidbenton8775
      @davidbenton8775 Місяць тому

      @NapoleonicWargaming What about games played at even larger scales, 2mm and even smaller minis. Nano-scale? Isn't it simpler to put the centre of the nomenclature at 15mm and minis within 5mm of that? After all, wargaming minis reach down a lot further than they reach up from that size. Many gamers use 2mm minis, seven and a half times smaller than 15mm. I don't think many use minis seven and a half times bigger than 15mm. That would be 105mm minis...are they a thing, even?
