Here we have another small project from the Furze book, what would you use it for....the garden or attack muhahaha. Link to get hold of the book yourself is in the description. Thanks to all that have bought it and are enjoying it. CF
What you are saying about the Relay doesn't seem right. NC or Normally Closed is a closed circuit, that means current can flow. Normally open is an Open Circuit, meaning current can't flow. So its essentially the other way around.
A relay doesn't open or close itself. It opens the NC (normally closed) and closes the NO (normally open) Thats it. When the relay isnt activated, the NC will pass through current and the NO will not. When active, the NC will not pass current and the NO will. It literally switches the current from the right pin to the left pin. The center pin is what it connects to, also known as COM. COM is (when relay is not active) connected to NC. So current can flow from COM to NC. When active, it will disconnect from NC and connect to NO. So current can flow from COM to NO.
Though it wouldnt have hurt to look it up for him. Its electronic basics really. He can make amazing things. So he should be able to understand a simple schematic of a relay.
so No = Water sprays when the button is pressed Nc = Water sprays constantly unless you press the button, then it will stop untill you release the button (just an even more dumbed down version. some of this stuff can be a little confusing at times)
No - The circuit is normally open. No current flows. Pressing the button closes (completes) the circuit, allowing water to flow. Nc - The circuit is normally closed. A current flows. Pressing the button opens (breaks) the circuit, stopping the water flow.
Rafael Gomes yep, he's going to drain the battery a lot quicker the way he's designed it. Either he has the relay energised or the solenoid energised, always drawing current from something
Using 9v batteries, that receiver will probably drain them in a few days. Also you almost certainly want to use the NO contact - with the NC, you will probably be running either the relay or the solenoid all the time, again running the batteries down when it's doing nothing. And winding wire round spade tags is going to be really unreliable. At least wind a few turns round. Really not up to your usual build standards.
mikeselectricstuff Yeah it was a bit sloppy and boring. I would have expected him to run gasoline trough it and have an awesome flamethrower sprinkle or something .
nemode dj This is a new adventure for him, kids. Criticism is key to success. Albeit kids will have fun with this design, always best to get it right. With that said, intentional poor designs could lead to the students discoving the more efficient/correct method. All fun times
Loved that you did the simple version on this build, not using the ideal/perfect solution and instead doing what we most likely will be doing at home. Thanks
This is great! These instructional type videos are so nice to show how easy it is to get started making your own fun stuff. I still love the larger crazier builds but a sprinkle of these every now and then is awesome as well.
Yeah, its not hard to make some really amazing defence systems, but our legal system is progressive up here in Canada, so They'll probably infringe on me for a thought crime.
I want to have one that I can remotely direct. After rugby matches drunk men piss on my hedge and I want to point it at the perp and shoot. Thanks for the tips to get me started
What a neat little side project, the how-to's are not annoying and helpful to practice the right way to do things (not acrewing them up randomly and unscrewing if thigs go wrong). I made one of these a while back, but without the remote control! Time to replace that on-off timer switch with something more fancy, or simply add it as an extra!
For someone who isn't native english speaker, and isn't a maker, but just fell down into this youtube rabbithole recently - it was nice with the quick explainer on what a solenoid valve was....
Thanks Colin. I have no water to my house. But I do collect rain and snow melt. This will help me build a solar hot water system so I can have a shower system and stop heating water over an open fire. Thanks again.
this is really cool with today's modern boards its really easy to click buy and its almost plug and play. it is the kind of video i wish i had when i got into electronics. it will help many people jump into working with electronics. very fun project!!!
UA-cam's entire demographic has shifted over the years, following the biggest group. That used to be tech savvy people because computers where for nerds. Currently every kid and their dog has a phone or tablet with a youtube app on it, so their main demographic are kids, moms, and people who don't have anything better to do than watch youtube all day. ... youtube is the new television, which also went from quality content to dumbed down shit as tv sets became commonplace.
If he feels like doing an easy tutorial for a change, it's totally up to him. However I must admit, if he aims to make more tutorial videos, I'd split his work into two separate channels - tutorials and inventions.
I love the fact you use all RYOBI tools, which I've had for years and do the job admirably, but I wish we had access to the USA range, they have loads !!!!
I used to build robots and compete against other people's bots we used a phone setup where one phone was on the bot and the other was connected to a controller, we even had to code the program to control the robot.
Bought this for my neice for christmas, she's all about building things, but they are usually of a trivial nature (slime and bathbombs and whatnot) so hoping she can get more practical as she wants to be an engineer when she grows up.
You can buy 3/4BSP hose to tap connectors with a proper tail to push hoses onto, usually in the next bin to the one where you found your hose fittings.
This is perfect for one of my current projects! I am building a portable fog machine and although I have a way to blow the fog out of it, I didn't have a way to keep it in when needed.
You've made it really easy for people to work out where you live with this video! Hope you dont mind all of UA-cam knowing your home address, took me seconds to find it on Google maps!
My son and I watch one of your videos each night before bed, thanks! We love them! My son (5 years old) wanted me to ask you to build a hot wheel motorcycle. So, there you have it!
no, not really. Its the common terminal for either the NC or NO contact. I would usually run the positive wire through the relay so it isnt always a 12V at the solenoid.
Niko L.. com. Is common power on the contacts. You have a 24v supply to the pcb used for controle. Common is the supply to the load of what it is that your switching
It doesn't do you any good if you connect both wires of the solenoid to the relay, in case you meant that. It'd just be shorting them together or not. If you'd connect one lead to +12V , the other to COM and NO to the ground, then it's called low side switching and it's how you'd do it with a transistor, but generally not with a relay. PS. It's not like a "common ground/reference" on a multimeter. It's just a common for the no and nc contacts of the relay and nothing else.
Subscribed for years without hitting subscribe button, since i discovered UA-cam. Bought book, although i will have to mimic projects in my bedroom as I don't have a garage.
I'm confused to what demographic you have been trying to hit recently, and you must be as well. With the kinds of videos you have been making for the last while you are obviously trying to appeal more to kids, and i guess you have had a growing younger audience since you started out. But no kids are going to make this, yet alone have a use for it, so what exactly is the point now. It's like making a kids show about how to do your taxes, I'm pretty confused.
"no kids are going to make this" Why not? I made things like these back in old days, when I was in 2nd/3rd grade - that was my first experience with electronics, relays and radio/infrared remotes, LEDs, soldering irons, etc. (of course, back then our family was poor as f*ck, so all the components was salvaged from recovered broken toys/devices) After some experimenting and little trial-and-error learning, I made a lot of cool stuff - I remember making a remote control for my desk lamp, and light-beam-interrupt beeper, so together with friends we could replicate the spy movies that we loved. Not all kids are retarded (at least I hope so - seeing today's kids actually kind of worries me...)
I encourage kids to make items like this. Simple and fun. But you are allowed to dislike the video. I just think that more kids should do this instead of playing video games. "And post"
These are easy to make, especially if you buy a ready made module. Very similar to my remote control unit for model rockets and pyrotechnics. I show how to extend the range of the transmitter by 2x in my video. Nice job.
8:40 That absolutely makes sense and makes the board more flexible. When you want to switch a 120V or 240V device you shouldn't power the receiver and the relais with that voltage. So you need two different power inputs.
actually good system ghas two voltages - one like 5v for electronics and other like 24v for solenoid. why his replay is so strange and work with one voltage I have no idea.

Colin, you need to make a "Furze-certified" monster hydroponic cannibas system capable of growing monster cannibas tree!!! Just imagine how much more you you get done when you're flying the cannibas skies!!!!!
Just a heads up to anyone who plans on using this in a more permanent scenario: those little relay boards are really in efficient and so your batteries will drain pretty quickly if you leave it running 24/7 As a result, I recommend running a mains wire to it, putting that though a 12V transformer, then running that into a full bridge rectifier and holding it at peak voltage with a capacitor in parallel with the inputs. In the past I've used little 16V 2200uF caps and they seem to deal with the changing current nicely.
Here we have another small project from the Furze book, what would you use it for....the garden or attack muhahaha. Link to get hold of the book yourself is in the description. Thanks to all that have bought it and are enjoying it. CF
Make a car that you use with a game console controller

Nice work Colin and congrats one the smashing read of a book 👍🏻
colinfurze well if this construction is fireproof i would use it for...well FIRE
colinfurze hi nice vids
Im a commercial plumber in the usa and this will come in handy when im testing my waste and vent lines by myself! Thank you so much!
What you are saying about the Relay doesn't seem right. NC or Normally Closed is a closed circuit, that means current can flow. Normally open is an Open Circuit, meaning current can't flow. So its essentially the other way around.
You can tell he isn't in his element for once ^^
When you activate the relay, it is closed. When you activate the relay when it is NO, the relay is open.

WumboTech You know he probably did but just got it messed up while filming.
Some people should appreciate creativity. His stuff is aimed at all ages, I don't understand why people dislike his work.
Bought A book, happy to support the channel in some small way.
Normally open = No current flowing, except when you press the button.
Normally closed = Current flows all the time, except when you press the button.
thank you, was looking for this
so
No = Water sprays when the button is pressed

anss he made a mistake with the nc and the no
I didn't expect a comment from Mike on here.
ouch, all crits out today..
mikeselectricstuff Yeah it was a bit sloppy and boring.

I love how calm Collin is in these non exciting videos
Ryan James you spelt Colin wrong
Darragh Brett sorry auto correct
Darragh Brett thanks though
*LOVE???* This shit's boring as fuck...
Digital Pyro boring for you probably, not everyone
Everyone says these are boring but I actually like these. Any type of learning from Colin furze I’ll take any day.
You know, as much as I enjoy watching you make insane things, more things like this that are actually practical would be neat.
Quality entertainment and teaching at the same time. Never stop Colin!
I need more electric things like this in my life
The Nocturnal Alchemist search for arduino projects
This is great! These instructional type videos are so nice to show how easy it is to get started making your own fun stuff. I still love the larger crazier builds but a sprinkle of these every now and then is awesome as well.
Who else thinks that Colin is the best
Finley_Read he is the best
He used to be, then he started catering for fucking kids.
I guess he's alright
Finley_Read Me :)
why do all these people say "who else thinks"
Colin, you're the kind of shed inventor that made Britain Great.
Now make one using a proximity sensor so it's completely automatic ;p
and instead of a hose, insert shotgun! yay...i'm on a list again...
walperstyle or a pipe bomb
Yeah, its not hard to make some really amazing defence systems, but our legal system is progressive up here in Canada, so They'll probably infringe on me for a thought crime.
Make it yourself. Its pretty simple.
I want to have one that I can remotely direct. After rugby matches drunk men piss on my hedge and I want to point it at the perp and shoot. Thanks for the tips to get me started

I made one of these a while back, but without the remote control! Time to replace that on-off timer switch with something more fancy, or simply add it as an extra!
Make a pumpkin carving machine
William Zuk Spoopy
Just need to resurrect the cake spoon machine...
William Zuk woo how creative
William Osman tried with a laser cutter
For someone who isn't native english speaker, and isn't a maker, but just fell down into this youtube rabbithole recently - it was nice with the quick explainer on what a solenoid valve was....
Nice. Apart from the fact that its Winter now😂
You must be living on another planet... woa
Digital Pyro Yep. In a Galaxy far far away. England😂
Thanks Colin. I have no water to my house. But I do collect rain and snow melt. This will help me build a solar hot water system so I can have a shower system and stop heating water over an open fire. Thanks again.
Always wear your safety tie
Yep
I like this channel so much. Especially because you don't use any hot glue.
Can you make a remote control for the remote control ?
Arduino
It's actually comforting to see, that even plumpers plug the hoses first before they remember to mount the hose clips first.
2:28 He said... "parallel line, strait down ya box" lol
this is really cool with today's modern boards its really easy to click buy and its almost plug and play. it is the kind of video i wish i had when i got into electronics. it will help many people jump into working with electronics. very fun project!!!
10:25 And this walk style 😂😂😂😂👌👌
Must be fun having you as a dad . You probably work a lot I hope you get time to enjoy your family you seem like a good guy
Me: "Hey mom what is the man outside doing"
My mom: "Colin is up to his shenanigans again isn't he..."
Hi Colin i am proud to se someone that isn't amarican on you tube doing this topic keep it up
What an invention!
Man, I *LOVE* your real world DIY projects. This is so clever and so useful.
Thank you so very much for this!
Greetings from Portugal.
2:44 every Australian knows this trick
Why ?
The fact youre also teaching people (particularly kids) some important stuff as well as being entertaining is great man, keep it up (y)
*Hears a noise coming from next door
Oh Colin must be building something wacky.
I wish these videos got more views, they are super easy ways to get people into building ❤️
Remember when colinfurze was not doing dumbed-down videos? Pepperidge farm remembers...
Remember when Pepperidge Farm jokes were funny?
Nope me neither.
this is the first video that i've seen of his that's "dumbed-down", and it's from his book for kids, and kids are dumb
If he feels like doing an easy tutorial for a change, it's totally up to him. However I must admit, if he aims to make more tutorial videos, I'd split his work into two separate channels - tutorials and inventions.
It's an old meme sir, but it checks out.
I love the fact you use all RYOBI tools, which I've had for years and do the job admirably, but I wish we had access to the USA range, they have loads !!!!
Bring it back to the oldskool and make a liquid fuel rocket
please
Yes I want this
Very cool... I bought three copies of this book... going to make some of these projects with my kids.
Make a car that you can use with a PS or XBOX controller
I used to build robots and compete against other people's bots we used a phone setup where one phone was on the bot and the other was connected to a controller, we even had to code the program to control the robot.
Mr.Death the problem would be to bring it the input from the reciver to the actual steering from the car
We had a central motor controller, it was a hub the phone would connect to and it also connected to the motors.
Mr.Death and then what happened?? This is interesting..
You know there is currently a gtr which can be operated from a ps4 controller now
Bought this for my neice for christmas, she's all about building things, but they are usually of a trivial nature (slime and bathbombs and whatnot) so hoping she can get more practical as she wants to be an engineer when she grows up.
"Really cheap, really easy to do" for a moment I thought I was watching a Jamie Olliver video there :D
You can buy 3/4BSP hose to tap connectors with a proper tail to push hoses onto, usually in the next bin to the one where you found your hose fittings.
Can you make a sword gun when you press the button at the bottom of the sword it shots like a gun
he's british not american
God i wish colin was my neighbour.
Your an absolute legend mate.
Big love from Australia.
Remote controlled
Pumpkin man
The result of a young audience
This is perfect for one of my current projects! I am building a portable fog machine and although I have a way to blow the fog out of it, I didn't have a way to keep it in when needed.
I like how it says *How* as if we are going to bother to do this .
Mark Pearce 10/10
BOOPER Dooper Gotta get that 10 min ad revenue, mang
good use for it
We?
This is one of the ones hes actually encouraging us to do, thats why its in the book.
G'day Furzey! Just wanted to say your World Wonders series has been awesome and I hope there's so much more to come!
How about a dancing car 👍
Brahmadh Vanshi that’s called hydraulics
You've made it really easy for people to work out where you live with this video! Hope you dont mind all of UA-cam knowing your home address, took me seconds to find it on Google maps!
Huh, no fire?
My son and I watch one of your videos each night before bed, thanks! We love them! My son (5 years old) wanted me to ask you to build a hot wheel motorcycle. So, there you have it!
isn't the common terminal meant for the "negative" lead from the solenoid?
Yep, though since the solenoid is non-polar, it doesn't really matter.
Niko L No
no, not really. Its the common terminal for either the NC or NO contact. I would usually run the positive wire through the relay so it isnt always a 12V at the solenoid.

Colin furze = the coolest dad ever 😂
Woah! No rock background music? Oh wait, I hear it now but it’s like really really faint
Subscribed for years without hitting subscribe button, since i discovered UA-cam. Bought book, although i will have to mimic projects in my bedroom as I don't have a garage.
This video is longer than the catalán independence
He really does everything for his kids )) well done mate
8:08 that’s what she said 😏
Finally something useful and not just entertaining.
Not your best work. The one you showed at the beginning of the video was nice. The one you cobbled together was a bit ghetto.
awesome job Colin, you're rally nailing teaching this stuff.
Who hates UA-cam red because you have to pay to watch videos I just want to watch a video without paying
Like if you agree
Colin that Relais is a potential free one they are *ALL* Like that.
I'm confused to what demographic you have been trying to hit recently, and you must be as well. these tutorials are boring
yur hobbies are boring
whatever you think. i simply prefer his regular videos.
What's your favrite furze video? :)
Weeb
i'm luckily by no means a weeb
This is just something that I don't know what to use for but I just like watching u build things😂
ColinFurze I just bought your book and I must say it is very nice I love it so far!
This guy is a hero
I REALLY liked this video. Wiring always gets me and you did a great job explaining things! Really enjoy ALL of your videos!
Relying on those little rubber seals to stop your electronics from getting fried. Bold move, Colin.
Bring back the old Collin
"How to make unreliable electrical connections 101"
The general idea is quite nice though, and I enjoy your videos a lot :D
These detailed build videos are really cool, Colin! It's really neat to see you doing these build-alongs based on projects from your book. I know it's a kid's book but dang I wanna buy it myself! :D
My little brother got your book recently and he LOVES it
I'm deffo getting this book for my kids.
About time thanks for getting a 1080 p 50fps camera it looks so good
Dude, look the quality of this plastic box! It's better than the glass dishes here in brazil.
Thank you colin this has helped me with my hydroponics
upgrade to arduino and mqtt to cloud it and monitor from smatphone
Just in time for winter!
So you're a good teacher too ?? Nice!
Colin, you need to make a "Furze-certified" monster hydroponic cannibas system capable of growing monster cannibas tree!!! Just imagine how much more you you get done when you're flying the cannibas skies!!!!!
Defo getting this for my boy for a little extra Xmas present.
damn that wall behind you is just great!
I know this is a 'kids' project from a 'kids' book, but I actually enjoyed this tutorial and want to make my own...
You rule, Colin!
I really enjoyed this video. DYI + tutorial. I should buy the book.
I love the MT2 BMW e30 in the background!
You your UA-cam channel and your book are awesome like the queen
Cartoon Colin is my favourite.
This is actually *Very Usefull*
Just a heads up to anyone who plans on using this in a more permanent scenario:
those little relay boards are really in efficient and so your batteries will drain pretty quickly if you leave it running 24/7 As a result, I recommend running a mains wire to it, putting that though a 12V transformer, then running that into a full bridge rectifier and holding it at peak voltage with a capacitor in parallel with the inputs. In the past I've used little 16V 2200uF caps and they seem to deal with the changing current nicely.
as i understoof these realys dont use energy at all. they are opened or closed on circuit. so they cant use any energy.
Jubilee clips is such a whimsical name for hose clamps
One of my favourite videos
