GREAT VIDEO! The CPAT can definitely be a little overwhelming at first if you don't understand the test as a whole and more specifically if you don't understand your strength and weaknesses of each event. I recommend anyone who is preparing to take the CPAT first watch a well instructed CPAT instructional video, then go out and train in the specific skills the test has to offer (i.e. the stair climb, forcible entry prop, etc.) All in all, the CPAT is very doable. Just be sure to train prior to the test and continue your training even after the test because the CPAT is the minimum physical requirement to become a firefighter. Once you progress on in the firefighter recruitment process and are fortunate to be offered a firefighter position, the real physical test of the fire academy comes and it will continue throughout your career. (Note: There are some fire departments out there that are adopting a 3rd and 4th round to the firefighter hiring process where you'll undergo a "Pre-Academy." The pre academy is like a combine where your respected fire department will put you through several events such as: - firefighter skills - speed, strength, and condition testing - Group projects - and more The pre academy is designed to test your physical ability, your teamwork and communication skills, and your ability to handle adversity). Be ready for anything and everything when it comes to the firefighter recruitment process. You never want to mess up or miss an opportunity. after the hose drag keep moving but save as much of your remaining energy for that dummy drag. my last test was outside in a parking lot. the harness on the dummy made it grip the asphalt. gotta lift as much of the dummy as possible before you drag. after the dummy its home free baby..about to take it for my 3rd time, 3 years in a row. so far I’ve passed every time, just need to win the lottery of actually getting hired lol.
I'm doing my final one on Wednesday morning. Those stairs are the main killers!! All the best to everyone still going through the process. Praying for y'all!
@@mirisparkleslikewhoa I'm sorry to hear that. That's ok, theres always a next time. Whats your plan now? What did you struggle with the most? what can I do to help you pass this thing?
@@FirefighterAmbitions I struggled with the StairMaster, disappointed to say. I aged out so, that is it for me and FDNY. And this was my final. But thanks for your help.
Passed my CPAT last week. I trained for about a month, I bought a 65 Lb vest from Walmart and did the stepmill for 6 minutes straight almost everyday. Afterwards I’d run laps. I’m in average shape, I just had knee surgery a few months back so I know if I can do it...anybody can with proper preparation 💪🏾 Good luck all!
@@Nino_J That is huge, congratulations. Best of luck with that list. Exciting things to come 😊The fire academy and career is solid, challenging, and fun. Are you still currently testing elsewhere while you wait for an invite? Also, what type of written exam did you take? And how was the interview conducted for you? (single panel, group interview, round robin, etc)
Its a good thing you are willing to test anywhere that fits your needs. You'd be surprised at how many candidates will not test outside of their respective cities. Don't get me wrong it is a MUST to have a specific department(s) that you wish to work for, but no candidates should put all of their eggs in one basket and neglect to seek out other opportunities (especially while you await any opportunity for your top desired department). Who knows you may end up like me, I tested for my #1 department, then while i was in the waiting process to being selected i sought out other opportunities and tested in other cities. And lucky for me my department called and hired me before any of the other departments finished their recruitment testing process. You have the right idea Red. How do you feel about the recruitment process in general? Any questions or concerns?
Firefighter Ambitions I understand the process pretty well my biggest concern for myself is my knee. I had cartilage repair surgery in April so that’s the only thing im a little uneasy about moving forward
@@Nino_J I hear you on that Red. On a positive note, i've seen several people come back from knee injuries/surgeries and have done well in the firefighter recruitment process and are doin well as firefighters. Hows the knee been since?
Took mine today but failed. This test is no joke. The stair climber is awful if you don't train your legs right. I gave it everything I had and completed it but came up short. Just gonna keep trying it until I pass it. Not giving up that easy.
Yea man you got plenty of time. Just really focus on that intensity in your workouts. Try to put together a circuit of exercises and do your best to not take a break until you finish the last one. If you can have a little wind left after you finish the stair climber then you should be good for the rest of the test
Alberto Valero the best advice I would give you is to train your legs and cardio for endurance. Running helps but if you have access to a stair climber that would help you out a ton. If not then take a backpack and fill it with books and just walk up and down stairs for as long as you can. Doing box steps helps too. What will best determine if you pass or fail is by how much wind you a have left after the stair climber portion because this test is fast paced. But you have a month to train so you should be good man. Just do your cardio and train those legs and you will be fine. I would do some stair climbs 3x a week and then do some high intensity cardio the other 3 days and have a day off for recovery. The test is no joke but with a month to train you have plenty of time.
Idk if it was a slip of words or if the rules have changed but you have 75 pounds of weight on for the stair climb. Just a heads up if you’re training! I’m an 115 pound girl and I passed it, don’t let anyone tell you can’t do it! if you want it bad enough anything is possible!
I’m also a girl training for the CPAT, I won’t be taking it for some time because I am working on my associates degree but it’s nice to know there are fellow women out there who have done it! Congratulations on passing !
I took mine for the first time 3 weeks ago. I passed with 2 minutes remaining. If you are fit/athletic you’ll do just fine…don’t underestimate the stair climb though
@@Holden-uf7 I would say less than 10 lbs each. The equipment carry wasn’t too bad because it was in the beginning, but at the end my forearms were on fire. If you’re training for it, definitely focus stair climb and forearm/grip strength
@@FirefighterAmbitions Have my app in with LA County! As soon as City opens up I'll throw mine there too. Wouldn't be opposed to elsewhere in the US as well, but end goal would to be a medic!
This was really helpful thank you. I’m going to be trying to get into Thomson Illinois fire protection district in the coming months so this gives me a great idea of how I should prepare for the test
Took mine today and I can honestly say I’m glad I was hitting the treadmill a lot more before I took my exam cause your body is exhausted after the stairs with the weights on
Hezron, no doubt there. I tell all my students that increasing your cardiopulmonary endurance is vital. I teach them to really focus on one step at a time and to focus on controlling their breathing and they've all had success throughout the rest of the CPAT because of it. I hear many candidates get overwhelmed and overexert themselves on the stair climb portion of the test, thus making the rest of the test that much harder for sure. All in all my man, GOOD WORK whats next for you?
I’m in the 11th grade and I want to be a firefighter and I’m already doing curls, deadlift, barbell presses etc. I see a place near me have a citizens fire academy. What should I focus on?
OD, how are you preparing for the test? my biggest advice is not to neglect your endurance and nutrition. When you train be sure to move from exercise to exercise just like the CPAT test does. Make your workouts based on supersets or circuit style training. This will help you increase your muscle endurance so you don't burnt out easily during the test. Be sure to make good decisions when it comes to your food. For the next week just eat whole nutritional foods. Drink loads of water and be consistent with it daily. Be sure to watch the CPAT instructional video several times until you completely understand each required skill. Then go out and practice the skills to the best of your ability (i.e. Stair climber, tire drag "rescue," etc.) From our team here, we want to wish you the best of luck OD. Way to step up for our communities. Being a firefighter was one of the best decisions I've personally ever made in my life. You have GREAT times to come. Firefighter Ambitions I have a bulletproof vest that weighs 40 lbs and have been working on the stair climb as well as trying to run a fast 1/2 mile to build up my cardio. As far as workouts go I normally do two exercises at once (not sure if that’s a superset) so I can get about six workouts done in a timely fashion. I will work on my nutrition and eat better food for the next week. I have my test scheduled for the 23rd. Unfortunately I was unaware of how few test dates there were and will not have my results into the Department by the deadline which is the 19th but I will take it anyways and turn it in nonetheless. Unfortunately working out of town will make the test difficult as I must work my 12 hr shift and then make it back to Vegas for the test. Thank you for all the advice and encouragement. Wish me luck.
Unfortunately no. I was told that CSN runs their own CPAT test for this hiring process. Best I can do is still make the effort and turn it in late rather than it not be done at all. Just need to make sure I take the test once a year so the certification doesn’t lapse and I need not worry about it the next time I test for the FD
I attempted the Biddle before this and came up short about 3 stations to the finish, I gave it my all on that and I’m hoping that I will be able to pass the cpat that I have scheduled in a week, definitely working on cardio and legs 😂
question to anyone who took it , in your opinion what was the hardest part of the exam and why? It seems very doable if prepared but I’m trying to go in as prepared as possible. I passed written exam so CPAT awaits
The stairs are the killer and the dummy send it to overkill You'll feel like noodles after your first CPAT. For the rest of the obstacles, more grit is needed then anything. You'll do fine
I wish they made a practice course for this. Or Something similar to simulate this! I’m halfway thru my Acdemy and preparing / planning for my orientation for CPAT.
Tyler, It will have varying obstacles from low points, high points, objects you have to crawl over, and a couple right turns you'll have to make. When are you testing?
Contact your local fire department and ask if you can come over and train or see if they have a training station nearby. You’ll have to sign a waiver too.
Harpreet, you can always check in with your local fire department, community college that offers a CPAT course, and you can check other accredited training facilities to see if they offer practice test (i.e. the national testing network) nationaltestingnetwork.com/publicsafetyjobs/cpat_info.cfm Where are you looking to start testing Harpreet?
I passed the Cpat today. It was really hard but I was able to complete it in under the time limit. If anyone needs tips on how to prepare physically for this test let me know.
@@quimawoods3942 First I would advise you to see where you are physically. 1. I went for a run to see how fast I get tired. I had to be honest with my self and had to push when I was tired so my cardio could improve. If you get tired after half a mile that is fine but just try your best to improve weekly. For two weeks I would run one day then rest the next day(3 miles the days I ran at a 10:30 pace). The last two weeks I ran 6 days a week with one day of rest. The last two weeks one day I would run 3 miles and the next 2 miles as fast as I could. 2.If you have a access to a stair master It will prepare you really well . In my case I would get tired after One minute and 45 seconds with the 75 pounds. I bought a 40 pound weight vest and for two weeks straight I only practiced with 40 pounds. After mastering 40 I went up to 60 pounds and stayed at that weight for one week. The last two weeks I went up to 75. 40 pounds coming from the weight vest and 35 from weight plates I put in a backpack. I used the stair masters three times a week. My calves would be super tired so I started doing this workout and it truly helped ua-cam.com/video/1qfb2pUzYRI/v-deo.html. During my stair master work out I would do 3 sets. One set consisted of 3:20 seconds with the weight on and then 5 minutes with out the weight. 3. ua-cam.com/video/SQnNdlGsfIs/v-deo.html This video really helped me. Going through the motions which he explains in the video. The exercises are similar to the cpat which will prepare you for the test. 4. Last I watched what I ate. I cut junk food, fast food, soda and fried food for a month. The reason why was because I wanted to give my body good and healthy fuel for this hard test. 5. In my opinion I noticed cardio plays a huge role which will dictate whether you pass or fail. Also your leg's strength and endurance. I wish I would of added more upper body training as I struggled with the forcible entry portion and dummy drag. 6. I am not telling you to do the same as I did but just informing you on what helped me so build a program that helps you. Thought these steps helped me it may not be beneficial and could injure you if you do them wrong so build your own routine and please be safe working out. Your health and safety are most important.
Congrats man. That’s awesome. I had just commented on your old post about the 40 pound weight vest but I see you got it. I am training so I can pass this. I haven’t started the process. I’m trying to get in shape first
@@nateroberts6489 Be sure to do a great job of super setting your workouts (2 exercises back to back; ex: Squats with box jumps) EVEN BETTER: Circuit training is probably the most valuable when it comes to the CPAT. Example: you have 5 or more different exercises that you continuously repeat for a set time or specific amount of reps. It'll be just like the CPAT itself, continuously moving from exercise to another until your deadline. This will help increase you cardiopulmonary performance, while increasing muscular endurance & strength. Continuing to do these two forms of training while increasing your rep/time amount and increasing your amount of weight, you will be well on your way to crushing the CPAT. That machine is terrible, I always run up stairs by the floor, If I ever start to keep a constant pace I get exhausted way more than I would if I were to just move at my own pace. They should just give them a 15 story staircase to climb under a certain amount of time
Has anyone here passed the CPAT but skipped the orientations and practice tests before taking it?? The department I am applying for is offering a free CPAT to candidates, but I want to take one in advance just to get it done before the deadline.
Depends on the state In N.Y you just take the F.D.N.Y test and wait for the call, but you go up against litterally 100,000 candidates who also take the test, some who have millitary points and legacy points, some who even have both legacy and millitary points accumulated, if you don't score at least 100 on the F.D.N.Y test there's no way you're getting in, even with a 100 chances are still slim because of the candidateswith millitaryand legacy points , process that takes about 3 years In C.T you need a high school diploma The emt is also required, once you obtain an emt certification you apply to fire departments that are hiring, if they take you they'll send you to the academy, but while you applying you'll be up against candidates who are E.M.Ts, paramedics, and even have millitary experience, however in C.T it's really about what the chief of the department is looking for in a fire fighter, much shorter process than N.Y, So If your serious about it I strongly recommend you get an emt certification, especially if you don't have military credit
@@captainchaos6812 what so you mean "nothing behind you"? What can help you get hired? Is there an age limit? They say online there isnt and that would be discrimination but I dont want my partner wasting their time to never get hired
So what is this a pass/fail event? Or is it timed? Or is it just that certain parts are? I'm training for this. I don't see it being to tough for myself since I served and deployed to a combat zone in the army so I'm not so much concerned about the physical.

My CPAT was way different.. 3 stations with 3 different tasks in each station.. We're also REQUIRED to pause for 90 seconds between each station. They put a pulse-ox on you and if your heart rate is too high after the 90second break you get disqualified.
@@lynsielaw8426 Of course. Do your best to actually practice each of the skills, whether that is on the actual CPAT practice course, your local gym, or at home. For example if you don't have access to a stair climber, utilize any flight of stairs to train on. Try to add some weight to your body by vest or whatever you can to simulate the 75lbs worth of gear. As for your normal training days (weight lifting, etc.) focus on making all of your workouts "CIRCUITS;" continuously moving from one exercise to another. This is the best type of training for the CPAT because the CPAT is one giant 10:20 circuit. You complete and move from one skill to another. Check with accredited institutions (i.e. FCTC; firefighter candidates testing center), or your local colleges, or check in with the NTN (national testing network) to see if there is a location available near you. Some fire departments run their own CPAT during their hiring process as well. So be sure to look into that as well. Where are you located exactly? And are you willing to travel to test?
I’m a firefighter in the marines, it’s weird to watch this video and see them doing this without screaming and sprinting everywhere, whenever we train, all the marine corps aspects bleed into the firefighter aspects so it’s 110% intensity at all times sort of thing.
Yes you are only permitted to walk during the CPAT. Running is only allowed during the hose drag portion of the CPAT. You can definitely power walk though.
@@chase.morgan1128 Yea it definitely is a little tougher than it looks. I think the hardest thing about the CPAT was my own competitive nature. Myself and several other of my students all discussed how during our CPAT test, we all tried to get the fastest times we could, making it much harder for sure. But with the right preparation, the right mindset, and most importantly the right nutrition lifestyle, passing the CPAT just becomes that much easier. How'd your test go?
I’m sorry but this test is one of many reasons the fire department is watered down with soft individuals. Physical testing should be a lot harder. This is ridiculous

Red Acura If it were up to me I would have an annual PAT . I would give everyone time to prepare. If they didn’t pass, they would be given another 30 days to prepare. If failed again they would be terminated. No excuses. The leading cause of death in the service is, and has been heart attack. We say we want to make change but nothing is being done. This is a simple fix.
That stair master test is some bs 3 minutes is entirely to long especially and a time limit you go through anxiety just trying to meet the time it should be done last
90% of the country is 3 floors or less. which is 3 flights so why all the stair climbing. I've always worked in in small cities and I never climbed more than 2 flights of stairs packed out on a call. unless your in a high-rise city I don't see the need for the stair evolution.
Our first due doesn’t have hardly any high rises, but think about fighting a brush fire. Taking a bladder pack or any brush fire tools up to the top of some of the mountains around here would be about the same as the stair master.
@@botabart10 tough guy? Did I claim to be a "tough guy"? Did I say I was better than him? Stop trying to say shit just to say it. You think what this kid was doing was tough in any way? GREAT VIDEO! The CPAT can definitely be a little overwhelming at first if you don't understand the test as a whole and more specifically if you don't understand your strength and weaknesses of each event. I recommend anyone who is preparing to take the CPAT first watch a well instructed CPAT instructional video, then go out and train in the specific skills the test has to offer (i.e. the stair climb, forcible entry prop, etc.)
All in all, the CPAT is very doable.
(Note: There are some fire departments out there that are adopting a 3rd and 4th round to the firefighter hiring process where you'll undergo a "Pre-Academy." The pre academy is like a combine where your respected fire department will put you through several events such as:
- firefighter skills
- speed, strength, and condition testing
- Group projects
- and more
The pre academy is designed to test your physical ability, your teamwork and communication skills, and your ability to handle adversity).
Be ready for anything and everything when it comes to the firefighter recruitment process. You never want to mess up or miss an opportunity.
GET YOUR MIND RIGHT, AND GO GET YOUR DREAM
GOOD LUCK FUTURE FIREFIGHTERS!

after the hose drag keep moving but save as much of your remaining energy for that dummy drag. my last test was outside in a parking lot. the harness on the dummy made it grip the asphalt. gotta lift as much of the dummy as possible before you drag. after the dummy its home free baby..about to take it for my 3rd time, 3 years in a row. so far I’ve passed every time, just need to win the lottery of actually getting hired lol.

Keep your head high and take care of yourself!
Passed my CPAT last week.
I trained for about a month, I bought a 65 Lb vest from Walmart and did the stepmill for 6 minutes straight almost everyday. Afterwards I’d run laps.
I’m in average shape, I just had knee surgery a few months back so I know if I can do it...anybody can with proper preparation 💪🏾
Good luck all!
Well said Red. It is definitely doable. Whats next for you? where are you testing?
I wish you good luck! I'm training for my CPAT that's coming in 6 weeks; definitely focusing on my legs.
Yea man you got plenty of time. Just really focus on that intensity in your workouts. Try to put together a circuit of exercises and do your best to not take a break until you finish the last one. If you can have a little wind left after you finish the stair climber then you should be good for the rest of the test
butch bigbee I have mine in a month. By training your legs right what do you mean? Any tips would help 👍
@@JudgeFudge42 thanks for the tips man it means a lot. I am sure you will pass your test next time just keep working hard!!!!

All in all my man, GOOD WORK
whats next for you?
Thanks sir, and background check
@@Davon12345678 right on man. Where are you testing out of?
I’m in the 11th grade and I want to be a firefighter and I’m already doing curls, deadlift, barbell presses etc. I see a place near me have a citizens fire academy. What should I focus on?
I test tomorrow!
Well done sir. Hope I pass on my first go when I take the test next week
Stair climber, tire drag "rescue," etc.)
From our team here, we want to wish you the best of luck OD.
Way to step up for our communities. Being a firefighter was one of the best decisions I've personally ever made in my life. You have GREAT times to come.
I hope this all helps

@@od4751 Is there not another testing center that offers an accredited CPAT that you can take so you don't miss that opportunity to test?
Unfortunately no. I was told that CSN runs their own CPAT test for this hiring process. Best I can do is still make the effort and turn it in late rather than it not be done at all. Just need to make sure I take the test once a year so the certification doesn’t lapse and I need not worry about it the next time I test for the FD
I attempted the Biddle before this and came up short about 3 stations to the finish, I gave it my all on that and I’m hoping that I will be able to pass the cpat that I have scheduled in a week, definitely working on cardio and legs 😂

The stairs are the killer and the dummy send it to overkill
You'll feel like noodles after your first CPAT. For the rest of the obstacles, more grit is needed then anything. You'll do fine

How did it go?
I wish they made a practice course for this. Or
Something similar to simulate this! I’m halfway thru my Acdemy and preparing / planning for my orientation for CPAT.

Interesting, in my state you have a choice of two practice cpats and then a final cpat before even going through the fire academy
My first attempt on the stairs was only 20 seconds off to start the other things
Will soon be doing my first cpat nervous I hope I pass
My backpack for school weighed about 65 pounds so I’ve been training since the start of my freshman year and just now graduated

Are there weights for the pike pole part? The push, pull, and pike itself?

Tyler, It will have varying obstacles from low points, high points, objects you have to crawl over, and a couple right turns you'll have to make. When are you testing?
I want to become a firefighter and started training but how do I know if there are any practice tests around me?
Contact your local fire department and ask if you can come over and train or see if they have a training station nearby. You’ll have to sign a waiver too.
Harpreet, you can always check in with your local fire department, community college that offers a CPAT course, and you can check other accredited training facilities to see if they offer practice test (i.e. the national testing network)
nationaltestingnetwork.com/publicsafetyjobs/cpat_info.cfm
Where are you looking to start testing Harpreet?
I passed the Cpat today. It was really hard but I was able to complete it in under the time limit. If anyone needs tips on how to prepare physically for this test let me know.
Alberto Valero what’s tips do you have
@@quimawoods3942 First I would advise you to see where you are physically.
I’m trying to get in shape first
@@nateroberts6489 You got it bro. Put in the work and you will be successful. Be confident in yourself man. I believe in you. Let me know how it goes.
@@nateroberts6489 Be sure to do a great job of super setting your workouts (2 exercises back to back; ex: Squats with box jumps)
EVEN BETTER:
Circuit training is probably the most valuable when it comes to the CPAT.
(Note: Do your best to get on a stair master and get comfortable with it)

Does the 3 minutes on the stair climber count towards your 10:20 sec time limit?
Yes. It's total time.
What exactly do u need to become a firefighter? EMT certification and high school diploma?
Depends on the state
In N.Y you just take the F.D.N.Y test and wait for the call, but you go up against litterally 100,000 candidates who also take the test, some who have millitary points and legacy points, some who even have both legacy and millitary points accumulated, if you don't score at least 100 on the F.D.N.Y test there's no way you're getting in, even with a 100 chances are still slim because of the candidateswith millitaryand legacy points , process that takes about 3 years
In C.T you need a high school diploma
The emt is also required, once you obtain an emt certification you apply to fire departments that are hiring, if they take you they'll send you to the academy, but while you applying you'll be up against candidates who are E.M.Ts, paramedics, and even have millitary experience, however in C.T it's really about what the chief of the department is looking for in a fire fighter, much shorter process than N.Y,
So If your serious about it I strongly recommend you get an emt certification, especially if you don't have military credit
@@kevinteran5624 Yea thats how its is out here in Chicago, but idk people tell me its really just about being unique and all about knowing people.

My CPAT was way different.. 3 stations with 3 different tasks in each station.. We're also REQUIRED to pause for 90 seconds between each station. They put a pulse-ox on you and if your heart rate is too high after the 90second break you get disqualified.
Princess Lemmy, Where was this test at?
How much does the dummy that you drag weigh?
Hey Lynsie, the weight is 165lbs.
Are you getting ready to take the test?
Firefighter Ambitions yes! Do you have any advice on preparing for the course?
With that being said, really do a good job of focusing on your breathing, especially during the stair climb. Believe me this will go along way for you come test day.
Theres so much we could cover and talk about, but simply put continue to train hard (especially in cardio), sleep well, and most importantly make healthy nutrition and hydration a lifestyle. Make sure that you are putting the right foods and drinks in your body. Give your body the best chance to perform at it's best come test day and most importantly come fire academy and actual career time.

Where can I take this physical test?
Where are you located
Check with accredited institutions (i.e. FCTC; firefighter candidates testing center), or your local colleges, or check in with the NTN (national testing network) to see if there is a location available near you. Some fire departments run their own CPAT during their hiring process as well. So be sure to look into that as well.
Where are you located exactly? And are you willing to travel to test?
Would I want to cut my hair before the cpat test
You can touch the rail with your wrist to keep balance.
What state is this in
Illinois

I take mines In march
That mufucka hard
What does the last part of the test test
Elijah O'Connell It simulates ceiling breaches.
I'm doing this tomorrow with a broken leg... not kidding
Jason P. Brunke yo
Jason, thats intense man.
How'd that go for you?
I’m a firefighter in the marines, it’s weird to watch this video and see them doing this without screaming and sprinting everywhere, whenever we train, all the marine corps aspects bleed into the firefighter aspects so it’s 110% intensity at all times sort of thing.
Are you forced to walk? I'd run or at least jog if that's an option.
Yes you are only permitted to walk during the CPAT. Running is only allowed during the hose drag portion of the CPAT. You can definitely power walk though.
@@FirefighterAmbitions Good to know. Thanks for the response. I'll definitely be range walking the test then!
@@nickh495 Go crush it!
Goodluck!
75 lbs on stair climb. Not 60!!!
Seems pretty controlled and if you’re on pace with instructors then you’ll pass.
The biddle is way harder then this.
Oh fa sho!!! This test is easy compared to the Biddle!!!
Easy
I like to see comments like this. Im assuming you've taking the CPAT test and crushed it?
Hahaha! It seems easy! When you actually do try it’s way harder.
I’d pay $1k not to take the stairmaster portion 😅
Same I only lasted 40 seconds with a. Month of training
I’m sorry but this test is one of many reasons the fire department is watered down with soft individuals. Physical testing should be a lot harder. This is ridiculous
Nonsense
You’d be surprised how many people fail the CPAT though
@@Nino_J ya they fail because people in america are lazy. This course is laughable. The only part that is even remotely challenging is the stairmaster
The department I work for designed their own... like many other surrounding departments due to this being a joke. There are people who fail it within the first minute.
Michael Foley So what do you say to the 45 year old, 280 lb veteran lieutenant who would probably fail the CPAT?
Red Acura If it were up to me I would have an annual PAT . I would give everyone time to prepare. If they didn’t pass, they would be given another 30 days to prepare. If failed again they would be terminated. No excuses. The leading cause of death in the service is, and has been heart attack. We say we want to make change but nothing is being done. This is a simple fix.
That stair master test is some bs 3 minutes is entirely to long especially and a time limit you go through anxiety just trying to meet the time it should be done last
Shut up puss puss
90% of the country is 3 floors or less. which is 3 flights so why all the stair climbing. I've always worked in in small cities and I never climbed more than 2 flights of stairs packed out on a call. unless your in a high-rise city I don't see the need for the stair evolution.
Gavin Peterson look bitch don’t come on here being disrespectful
Chris Smith exactly man I didn’t have an issue doing but I definitely thought that could be changed
Our first due doesn’t have hardly any high rises, but think about fighting a brush fire. Taking a bladder pack or any brush fire tools up to the top of some of the mountains around here would be about the same as the stair master.
this has got to be the easiest test i've ever seen
Easy.
How the hell is this kid tired after that?
Try it yourself
I do 225lbs farmer walks using grip strength going up and down a hill. Now THAT is a lot harder
Good Day Mate relax tough guy
@@botabart10 tough guy? Did I claim to be a "tough guy"? Did I say I was better than him? Stop trying to say shit just to say it. You think what this kid was doing was tough in any way? This should be a lot tougher than this if it involves training potential firefighters that will soon be using the skills they learn to SAVE LIVES. None of this shit should be a walk in the park, especially when lives will be at stake, and considering the big bucks they get paid to do so. So, ya...this shit is a pathetic test of endurance.
Good Day Mate have you done the test ?
What speed is the treadmill?
60 steps per minute
David Morales Thanks!
