I work and study. Due To this I cannot attend lectures. You have been of great help. I am very very thankful for u .The notebook theory was difficult for me to understand but your explanation made it a lot easier .May God bless you in every way possible. thanks a ton 😊
Thank you so much. I'm using this philosophy to write my first ever proposal. Your explanations were articulated perfectly. My graditute is off the charts.
Quality video.. This was of a higher standard than much of the lecturing here in Ireland, nice to see ideas presented in the vernacular without all the flowery language. Well done on making it easy to watch and accessible !
Luke Wymer Thanks a bunch for the kind words, Luke! I teach history and went a little outside of my comfort zone for this one, but it was rewarding and it seems that Comte is making sense to a lot of people because of it. "Easy to watch" and "accessible" are two of the best compliments a teacher can get!
the lecturer explained this in class but now i understand more after watching this, especially the first stage- Theological, and its substages (fetishism, polytheism & monotheism).. Thank you very much sir. Much love from South Africa❤️️❤️️❤️️
I can't believe that this video is 10 years old. It was so good, so interesting, and full of humor that keeps one engaged rather than boring them. Subscribed! dk if this channel is still in use but yeah :'/
god thank you! My Socio-Theory teacher told us to read this INCREDIBLY old book about Comte and it was like reading Shakespeare. Thank you for explaining it in a more modern tone that I can actually understand!
Thank you! A lot easier for me to watch and listen than to read in terms that I do not understand. You explained everything well and easy for me to understand.
God didn't ask Prophet Abraham to sacrifice his son "Just because" "As a joke" "Because He's the most powerful and can do what he wants." It was a test of the loyalty, dedication, obedience, and sincerity of his chosen deputy on earth. Abraham was to prove that He loves God so much, and he's committed to Him so much, that he is willing to sacrifice anything for His sake. Even the thing that he loves most.
It was also a shadow of what would take place when Jssus Christ died for.everyone because it shows that God was willing to give His Son for humanity. Connected to the lamb that he provided for Abraham when he told him not to kill isaac. Then we call Jesus christ the Lamb of God.
This was an excellent overview. It's funny that you're back where you started from stage 1 to stage three. "It doesn't make sense." I'm glad you said this was OK since we lack the inherent sensory equipment to perceive such things as the fabric of space-time. I think most people would like to experience the fabric of space time, I find it a worthy challenge to develop augmentation equipment that would allow us to sense this reality.
I liked that you expanded on your explanations and descriptions with relatable subjects. For example, the Newton/Einstien thing really gave me an understanding of the point you were explaining. Wish we had a tutor like that...
Really good video but I think that the newtonian example was not good, I think that the only reason why newtonian physics is still taught at school is because the mathematics behind the newtonian phisics are simpler and it is still usefull. (sorry for my english it is not my main languaje)
Not to mention the fact that Newtonian physics is perfectly usable in all but the most unusual circumstances (travelling at a significant fraction of the speed of light for example).
I am a student at the University Autonoma de Santo Domingo and this semester I am taking a class of Philosophy that is interesting and complicated at the same time ( LOLLL ) . Before I watched this video I was totally confused about that concept of POSITIVISM , now I can say that I am prepared enough to start a real debate about the subject . Thank you very much for sharing your knowledge with us .
hey, thank you for an interesting lesson! also for telling English on level what somebody from abroad can easly understand. learning gets much harder when you have a language barrier . greetings from Poland!

Hello Tom. Last page of "origin of species", Darwin introduced the creator who breathed power into one form of life. Are you sure then Darwin can be made a positivist when he had been enable to extract its experimental conclusion from the monotheist meta-narrative?
Have you considdered the fact that John Locke was writing in a time of severe censorship and that he might have (and I believe he did) had used the idea of Divinity in his writings in order to bypass it?
monkees4va Thanks for the subscription and the kind words about my videos and my daughter! I'll definitely keep producing educational videos as long as people are watching!
Can you make a short video that explains what Kierkegaard was talking about in this little quote. I can't figure out what he meant by apposition. A man who but rarely, and then only cursorily, concerns himself with his relationship to God, hardly thinks or dreams that he has so closely to do with God, or that God is so close to him, that there exists a reciprocal relationship between him and God, the stronger a man is, the weaker God is, the weaker a man is, the stronger God is in him. Every one who assumes that a God exists naturally thinks of Him as the strongest, as He eternally is, being the Almighty who creates out of nothing, and for whom all the creation is as nothing; but such a man hardly thinks of the possibility of a reciprocal relationship. And yet for God, the infinitely strongest, there is an obstacle; He has posited it Himself, yea, He has lovingly, with incomprehensible love posited it Himself; for He posited it and posits it every time a man comes into existence, when He in His love makes to be something directly in apposition to Himself. Oh, marvelous omnipotence of love! A man cannot bear that his ‘creations’ should be directly in apposition to Himself, and so he speaks of them in a tone of disparagement as his ‘creations’. But God who creates out of nothing, who almightily takes from nothing and says, ‘Be’, lovingly adjoins, ‘Be something even in apposition to me.’ Marvellous love, even His omnipotence is under the sway of love! Soren Kierkegaard, Christian Discourses, 1848 Lowrie 1940, 1961 p. 132
***** I think that in this passage Kierkegaard is referring to the idea, since the Old Testament, that God is "wholly Other". This highlights the dual nature of man vs God: man, by definition, is not God, and vice versa. To Kierkegaard, God is perfection, and does not lay claim His creations as man lays claim his. God creates man, who is entirely different from Himself. The dual nature of Jesus is the closest to the blurring of this direct "apposition" that I can think of in the Abrahamic religions. Christians will assert that Jesus was fully clothed as a man, but never gave up his divinity, and thus was God incarnate. However it might be worth noting that this separation, between God and man, collapses entirely in some of the religions of the East. Buddhists, for example, have a very different conception of God, which may not even be worded as such. Their "God" is a universal monism or oneness ("dharma", which seems very similar to the God of Spinoza). In contrast to Christ, the Buddha was just a man. He became an enlightened man, but a man nonetheless. Thus Kierkegaard's (Judeo-Christian) dichotomy loses its foothold in such a context. That's just a different approach. :)
***** Thanks for the reply. I would say most want to be enlightened in relation to something but not in relations to God today. But in Christianity one would try to become loving in relation to a God called Christ.
Sigmund Freud made his theory on something call “Oedipus complex” is this stage three in Comte opinion? Sorry for my bad English. I hope you got the point.
Why not the equally popular "animism" instead of "festishism"? The term is, in my opinion, more accurate considering the religions included are about "anima" (mind/soul). There is the Jung correlation, I suppose, but there is also plenty of anthropological work that utilizes animism.
its really a great help for my midterm exam today but I'm a little bit confuse about the last part is it positive or scientific stage because the thing that i wrote in my notebook is scientific stage i guess i miss heard the positive stage ohhh well thank you for this ohhh can i have a request can you explain how MAXIST DIALECTIC PROCESS DO 3 LAWS 1.INTERPERSONAL OF OPPOSITES 2.TRANSFORMATION OF QUANTITY INTO QUALITY 3. NEGATION OF THE NEGATION OR ABOUT THESIS, ANTI-THESIS, AND SYNTHESIS actually I'm confuse about this two on how to understand it waiting for your kind responds :)
Hey Tom , I liked your video . But I think something is missing , Comte used the term positivism in two distinctive ways .1) positivism as a doctrine and .2) as a method . . Pls help me
I enjoyed your video, it was very detailed in its analysis. Got me thinking about Abraham, I believe that his faith was attributed to his righteousness, and his righteousness led to him having many descendants. But overall, good video.
This comment helped me increase the synthesis of this topic. Saying that someone had a lot of children because of a series of social constructs such as religion, faith, or righteousness is an example of the theoretical stage. We now know that people have a lot of children because they have a lot of sex which leads to a series of biological processes. Which is the Scientific Stage. As the videos points out, many people still live in the Metaphysical Stage and have not progressed to the Scientific stage... they know they need to complete the biological processes in order to procreate, but still pray to some theoretical entity just in case.
I liked your explanation of the first two stages but really, "physics just doesn't make sense" is literally the opposite of the way science works. Science is about pure logic and reason, physics does make sense because when a theory is put forth, it is based on mathematical reasoning and can then be proved by observation and analysis. This makes sense, this is logic in its purest form. Just because something is beyond the grasp of your comprehension, it does not mean that it does not make sense. It simply requires a broader base of knowledge that you have yet to acquire. Anyone can understand science, that's the whole point, you just have to be committed to learning the basics before you delve into the more complex. No physicist ever learned about relativity before first learning about kinetics and dynamics, and no one ever learned those two before learning arithmetic/geometric math and algebra.
Thanks, Matt Damon!
lol :)
he is john cena...hahaha
lol so true hehe
Jakob Hallberg 😂
Anthroposophie
I can tell people I learned sociology from the love child of Matt Damon and John Cena. Thanks Mr. Richey
Wtf 😂 i cant unsee it now

After uni lectures and reading it's a relief to see it spelt out so simply! Great way to tie together everything I've learnt. Thank you!
Glad I could help you!!! :D
+Jessica Allsop Yeah. Same for me. And English ain't my native language. In fact it is my fourth language, so the subtitles is a great help.
Hello how are you please reply me I have very important work with you.
how you doing now
And all of the sudden, the nonsens i have in my notebook makes sense. Thank you! 〰
Daaa
😂😂😂😂😂
Are you positive about positive not always meaning positive?
LOL SMH
im sure Eric Cartman would be HIV positive about that statement
No
He's right, Comte's studies have nothing to do with "positive" feelings but everything to do with positive scientific empirical evidence.
I work and study. Due To this I cannot attend lectures. You have been of great help. I am very very thankful for u .The notebook theory was difficult for me to understand but your explanation made it a lot easier .May God bless you in every way possible. thanks a ton 😊
Thanks for sharing this with me. It's great to hear how my work is helping people in real ways. May God bless you, as well!
I was about to say, "God bless you Tommy" but then positivism be like "Seriously!"
Thank you so much. I'm using this philosophy to write my first ever proposal. Your explanations were articulated perfectly. My graditute is off the charts.
Thanks for sharing that! It's nice to hear such kind words. I hope your proposal is a success. ☕️😃👍🏼
Thanks for putting a little humor in these subjects. It makes learning more fun.
You made it easier to comprehend. Thank you.

god thank you! My Socio-Theory teacher told us to read this INCREDIBLY old book about Comte and it was like reading Shakespeare. Thank you for explaining it in a more modern tone that I can actually understand!
I believe I have learnt something useful here today concerning your discussion on the topic. Thanks
You always break it down into understandables. Which makes it easy to assimilate with today-isms. Thanks!!
wokay that scream clearly woke me up! XD
Thanks for the amazing explanation with so much enthusiasm!
Thank you! A lot easier for me to watch and listen than to read in terms that I do not understand. You explained everything well and easy for me to understand.

could you recommend some literature for reference?
Mr. Richey is so amazing along with his cup. Nice video!
Thank you for the video you explained it in a simple way I could understand.
Thank you! I am doing a presentation of Positivism and this is very helpful.

Thank you so much for your very informative discussion. I am a teacher and I used your video to teach my students about the works of Auguste Comte.
Thank you explaining it in a simple yet such an interesting manner. You are an amazing teacher. Really appreciate your help.

That would be pretty cool to experience space time!
Very good explanation. It helps me to understand and focus on the significant points in my reading materials for exams.
Have a nice day Mr. Richey

I'm not sure if I missed something, but why do most sociologists reject both the biological and psychological focus of Comte?
Super helpful and incerdibly well presented!! Thank you, you are a life saver !

2.TRANSFORMATION OF QUANTITY INTO QUALITY
3. NEGATION OF THE NEGATION

actually I'm confuse about this two on how to understand it
waiting for your kind responds :)
awesome. i subscribed your channel cuz you are worth it . very helpful . plz continue making these kinda videos . i would love to hear you again

Really great video ! The only question I have is - what was in your medical report ? ;)
A lecture on Max Weber please!! It would help sooo much!!
Este video debería estar con subtitulos al español, es en verdad muy bueno
love your style!
Thanks! I finally get it!
Glad I could help! :D
I'm diggin the intro music.
