      Luke Wymer Thanks a bunch for the kind words, Luke! I teach history and went a little outside of my comfort zone for this one, but it was rewarding and it seems that Comte is making sense to a lot of people because of it. "Easy to watch" and "accessible" are two of the best compliments a teacher can get!

    This was an excellent overview. It's funny that you're back where you started from stage 1 to stage three. "It doesn't make sense." I'm glad you said this was OK since we lack the inherent sensory equipment to perceive such things as the fabric of space-time. I think most people would like to experience the fabric of space time, I find it a worthy challenge to develop augmentation equipment that would allow us to sense this reality.

    • @tomrichey
      @tomrichey  9 років тому +2

      That would be pretty cool to experience space time!

    God didn't ask Prophet Abraham to sacrifice his son "Just because" "As a joke" "Because He's the most powerful and can do what he wants." It was a test of the loyalty, dedication, obedience, and sincerity of his chosen deputy on earth. Abraham was to prove that He loves God so much, and he's committed to Him so much, that he is willing to sacrifice anything for His sake. Even the thing that he loves most.

      It was also a shadow of what would take place when Jssus Christ died for.everyone because it shows that God was willing to give His Son for humanity. Connected to the lamb that he provided for Abraham when he told him not to kill isaac. Then we call Jesus christ the Lamb of God.

    Really good video but I think that the newtonian example was not good, I think that the only reason why newtonian physics is still taught at school is because the mathematics behind the newtonian phisics are simpler and it is still usefull. (sorry for my english it is not my main languaje)

    • @Calphool222

    I liked your explanation of the first two stages but really, "physics just doesn't make sense" is literally the opposite of the way science works. Science is about pure logic and reason, physics does make sense because when a theory is put forth, it is based on mathematical reasoning and can then be proved by observation and analysis. This makes sense, this is logic in its purest form. Just because something is beyond the grasp of your comprehension, it does not mean that it does not make sense. It simply requires a broader base of knowledge that you have yet to acquire. Anyone can understand science, that's the whole point, you just have to be committed to learning the basics before you delve into the more complex. No physicist ever learned about relativity before first learning about kinetics and dynamics, and no one ever learned those two before learning arithmetic/geometric math and algebra.

    • @bollywopboy
      @bollywopboy 8 років тому +1

      +Michael Choiniere if you add "to me" to "physics just doesn't makes sense", this video just became about logical positivism.

    ~>Quando falamos de positivismo, nem sempre falamos de algo positivo, e sim de uma relação ampla com o conhecimento.
    ~>O positivismo foi utilizado como justificativa para colonizações e tomadas de terra.
    ~>Comte criou a teoria dos três estados, que determina que o homem desenvolve a sociedade em 3 estados.
    ~>O primeiro é o Estado Teológico ou Fictício, onde a religião domina tudo e todos; tempos onde a ciência não era popular, ou seja, tudo era explicado através do sobrenatural.
    ~>No Estado Metafísico ou Abstrato nós encontramos a ciência ainda baseada em eventos religiosos ou esprituoso. Essa foi a época de pessoas como Isac Newton e John Looke. Nesse Estado, começam as críticas e ataques às religiões monoteístas.
    ~>O Estado Positivo ou Científico é o final, no qual a sociedade seria baseada na ciência e na observação de fenômenos. Seria como uma ciência Independente de crenças religiosas ou fé.

    • @cararose1977
      @cararose1977 4 роки тому

      This comment helped me increase the synthesis of this topic. Saying that someone had a lot of children because of a series of social constructs such as religion, faith, or righteousness is an example of the theoretical stage. We now know that people have a lot of children because they have a lot of sex which leads to a series of biological processes. Which is the Scientific Stage. As the videos points out, many people still live in the Metaphysical Stage and have not progressed to the Scientific stage... they know they need to complete the biological processes in order to procreate, but still pray to some theoretical entity just in case.

    Yes, I like it. I greatly value lack of pretentiousness. Some things simplified or omitted here, but justifiable in showing how Comte viewed things. I don't believe that later scientists actually needed Comte, but this is a good presentation to fix certain key ideas in the mind and begin critical discussion.

    When I heard your daughter in the background I thought it was my child miraculously home from school.

    This was decent up until the talk about you're not understanding relativity... not trying to be mean, but you should probably have at least a basic understanding of one of the most important theories ever that has fundamentally changed society, specifically through technology that wouldn't be possible without this theory.

      Time only exists as a perception and a measurement which are both based off of the novement of all things. Gravity effects the speed of movement, perception of time is relative because speed and therefore our relation to the measurement of the perpetual movement of all things is effected and altered.
      Time exists as a perception and measurement but other than that it does not fundamentally exist, what exists is perpetual repetitions of composition and decomposition, perpetual "creation" and destruction on micro and macro levels of all things at all times, and this created the perception of time.
      "Time is the measurement of all things"
      .................
      Think about this:
      The earth is moving at a speed of orbit around the sun at about 50,000 mph
      So if you read this,
      A second before you read this,
      You just moved 22,352 meters (13.8 miles) in that one second.
      It is impossible for a human who stays on earth to ever be in the same place twice
