- Опубліковано 17 вер 2024
- A first for us - we made homemade gingerbread cookies! This took a bit more work than we are used to, but they turned out fantastic - and we had a great time making them!
Gingerbead Cookies
3 cups flour
2 tsp ginger
1 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp baking soda
1/4 tsp nutmeg
1/4 tsp salt
3/4 cup butter, softened
3/4 cup firmly packed brown sugar
1/2 cup molasses
1 egg
1 tsp vanilla
1/2 orange rind (optional)
Mix flour, ginger, cinnamon, baking soda, nutmeg and salt in large bowl. Set aside. Beat butter, brown sugar, and orange rind in large bowl with electric mixer on medium speed until light and fluffy. Add molasses, egg and vanilla; mix well. Gradually beat in flour mixture on low speed until well mixed. Press dough into a thick flat disk. Wrap in plastic wrap. Refrigerate at least 2 hours.
Preheat oven to 350°F. Roll out dough to 1/4-inch thickness on lightly floured work surface. Cut into desired shapes. Place 1 inch apart on ungreased baking sheets. Bake 8-10 minutes.
Hello! Welcome to our page! I’m Val, 53-years-old and a full-time caregiver to my dependent adult daughter. Here, we share our everyday life experiences as a family living with a dependent adult. Our goal is to help other families gain insight and awareness of what everyday life can be like when living with a dependent adult-child with special needs, and to take some of the mystery out of what it will be like when special needs children grow into special needs adults. We want others to know that this life can be good. Beyond challenges and frustrations we find even more joy, entertainment, laughs and good times.

Chilling cookie dough will make it more flavorful, chewier, and thicker. Using parchment paper works wonders, too!
Hannah, you have a natural talent for comedy. Had me laughing. You're so UN self conscious and are able to take things lightly. Loved this!
My last cooking making was with my 95 year old Grandmother. We did it in batches and made several kinds of cookies. 82 dozen in total. Our last time. Miss her dearly.
I'm sorry for your loss.
I love the idea of adding the orange zest. Definitely want to try this recipe. ❤
Really enjoyed making Gingerbread cookies with y’all! Can hardly wait to make this recipe with my grands! Love♥️🎄♥️
Thank you!
I love these!
❤️
I have made gingerbread cookies from a bag Betty Crocker mix and they are really good . have never made our own gingerbread dough .
Looks like they had fun! I have never put orange in mine with have to try that. Thanks girls
It was a nice addition!
Hi Val Jess and Hannah those look so good and I can’t wait to make them and I never heard of putting orange rind in them keep up the good work and Jess you are having such a good time helping them cutting them out and I’m so proud of you keep up the good work I love you guys.🎄🎄❤️❤️❤️🎄🎄
Thank you, Susan. 🎄
Ooh that looks like something I might not stuff up😂😂😂 thanks for the recipe🎄🤗They look great!
I love watching these everyday! You have all done such a great job planning and keeping up with it! Seeing that you recorded early in the month in order to manage it all, says a ton about your commitment! ❤
❤️
If you rub flour on your rolling pin , that helps . And if you stand while you’re rolling the dough , it’s much easier . Just a couple hints .
Thank you!
I really am going to miss the vlogmas videos when they are over 😢
awesome activity
Best cookie on the planet hands down
❤️
it was my first time this year too. decorating was hard!
You did a really good job Hannan
Thank you!
Hey Jess hope y'all have a great rest of the day...
❤️ Thank you!
i have been cooking and baking all day
❤️
The word you were looking for with the orange peel is zest….orange zest 😊
love watching your videos , looks like jess is having a good time , I like gingerbread cookies ,
❤️
Maybe grated the orange rind .
It’s 🕔somewhere🥂, Nice job on the cookies🎄
Hannah's gettin' a work out 💪🏻.
😄
Very cute. They look so Christmasy and delicious. Yummy 😋
❤️
Looks delicious. I think the orange-word you are looking for is orange zest. Generally tou want to avoid using the white part of the peel ("pith") since its quite bitter.
❤️
That's Wonderful! You guys have definatley kept me in the Holiday spirit. Have so enjoyed each and every vlogma
Thank you!
Hannah's getting a workout with that rolling pin.
😄
Yummy
❤️
Enjoyed video. Where did you get the mixing bowls?
Val ordered them from Amazon. 😃
They were a gift. Here’s a link to some that are similar amzn.to/3G1at9w
Hi Jess looking ready to bake 👍
Vlogmas day 17 gets underway. 8 days away from Christmas. Good video. Continue on your road on getting the silver play button. Happy holidays
Thank you! 🎄
I love your shirt 👚, Jess!
Thanks! 😊
It was fun watching you make gingerbread cookies. I think that the verb you were looking for when you were talking about the orange peel was “zesting.” Bakers and chiefs zest citrus fruits like lemons, limes, and oranges.
❤️
Cut out cookies you dip the cutters in flour first and then cut the dough
I forgot that step. 😄🤦🏼♀️
they look so good. I stopped making cookies a few years ago when I just couldn't take rolling the sticky dough! lol Only thing missing is a cold glass of milk for dipping. Yum.
🥛 ❤️
Stand up to roll. You get more pressure
Good job Hannah 🙂
They look delicious 😋
Thanks!
Hello #baddaddy 18:48 😄😄
A little hint, if you roll the cookies out on parchment, then cut them all out and instead of picking up the cookies, take away the “negative”. Then you can just slide the parchment onto the baking sheet
Thank you! Excellent suggestion!
They came out great. Good job Hannah, Jess & Val 😋♥️
Thank you!
You remind me of the next Julia Childs lol. You go girl!!
😂
“What did I do??” 😅😅 1:17
Hannah, it takes a lot of muscle to roll out dough. It would be easier if you stood up. Personally, I can’t make cookies! 😂 They will be great.
😄 Hannah is so much taller than us, sometimes we have to make adjustments to get us and the table in the view of the camera. That’s why she was sitting.
@@AutisticInterpretations I understand…I also thought after I commented that it might hurt her neck and shoulder if she put that much pressure while standing. It all turned out great and fun. Next go ‘round try a little flour on the spatula while picking up the raw cookies. Again, I couldn’t bake a cookie if my life depended on it, I’m 71 yrs old! Lol! Like you, sugar cookies are my favorite. I’m a “plain vanilla” kind of gal! Happy Sunday! Hugs to all!!
I've never made gingerbread but then again I'm not much of a baker.
Looks like your labors were well worth it, Ladies!🎄❤️
I had to guide my grandmother at the grocery shopping because she needs help so did not watch vlogmas today I'm watching it later once a month we help her get groceries because her vision isn't as good so we drive and I do work for her
It’s wonderful that you help her!
@@AutisticInterpretations yes it's my job that I have and she likes to spend time with Me and it's fun we get coffee sometimes with her me and my mom so I guide her and we have so much fun
I saw Badddaddy!
❤️
Valorie Are you planning on do a Christmas day in the lifebso proud on jessica's progress ❤ and also are you doing the gingerbread house decorate also
Yes, the Gingerbread House video will be on Christmas Eve. No ditl on Christmas.
Hi ladies
Come around more, Bad Daddy
Love Gingerbread cookies. Please tell Jessica that her idea to give my grandkids their spending money to Dinsey all at once was a great idea. We had Christmas with my kids and grandkids last night. My 1 year old granddaughter loved her Peek A Boo Minnie Mouse and her Minnie Mouse that sings nursey rhymes. My 3 year old granddaughter loved her Minnie Mouse Ice Cream Shop. I'm going over tomorrow to teach my 9 year old granddaughter how to start making her Stitch Latch and Hook pillow. She loves crafts.
That all sounds lovely!
what the name of those little bowls? i have been wanting some, but not sure the name. Thnx
Val ordered them from Amazon. 😃
Hey Stef, here’s a link to some that are similar amzn.to/3G1at9w
@@AutisticInterpretations Thanks Val. i actually meant the ones you put the spices into separately after you measure them.
Now I want cookies........... I don't have any cookies, and it's 11.30 pm overhere..........
Hannah, how is your shoulder? Does it still hurt?
Hello. Hannah still has shoulder pain.
@@baddaddy2826 Oh, I'm sorry for that...
Hannah honey, you schlapped that sugar 😁! I bet they’d be good with a cup of coffee 😋.
Oh yes!
I tried it but my dough came out sticky followed the recipe
Dont know what i did wrong
He will just be a old man.☺️
I don't get it - if this is how you guys earn your living (no judgement there, at all) why do you rarely have all of the proper ingredients when doing a cooking video?
ETA: also, if you're filming these days in advance why not just go get the ingredients and start then?
I find that this lessens the credibility of your content - running late, missing ingredients, cameras/ computers not set up right before you guys live stream, etc.
And yes. I can choose to not watch. I get that. But they also encourage leaving comments and asking questions.
I think that it makes it real..its real life..a busy busy family ..fulltime carers..personally for me..i prefer to see realness..they arent chefs..in most homes ..certainly mine..we adapt..change up..experiment...i value the fact that i can see another family like mine...perfectly imperfect
@@karengreen4087 Exactly my thoughts too. 🥰
Hi Erin, thanks for your feedback. I guess I will say it is what it is. Our lives here are full, busy, often disorganized, sometimes chaotic, usually last minute, spur of the moment and ever changing. And most of all we are imperfect. But we are the real us rather than some pseudo perfection that doesn’t exist in our world.
Having said all of that, we will keep your advice in mind and strive to do better.
It's my birthday today
Happy Birthday!!
