Something I like about Merkur is that they don't really try to hide that they're a Chinese brand, they'll have Chinese characters and references on their dial. More Chinese brands need to be bold about the country they're from- it's not 2012 anymore where Chinese brand automatically means bad.
The movement is what they call a “Chinese standard move”. It’s a movement that’s been around China forever and Merkur. Just kind of rebranded it but it’s a really decent movement and pretty nice looking too. It’s kind of a re-issue of an old vintage Chinese movement basically
It’s called the Tongji (统机), developed by the ministry of light industry to become (almost) the only movement that was authorized to be produced by all watch factories in china during the 70s
Own this watch with the salmon dial. Fairly agricultural movement, slow 50 seconds per day, but pretty decent looking, okay power reserve, sits comfortably on the wrist, with a simple but properly designed case. As a sucker for sector dials and not wanting to spend 900€ on a Tissot Heritage 1938, I am quite happy with this very affordable Merkur.
I can't remember the calibre, but it's the same one as found in the Hruodland "Cyclone" pilot watch I recently picked up from Aliex. My example of that Hruodland, bought sterile as it has a brand name that I can't pronounce, runs typically at around +1 - +3 seconds per day and is unaffected by its resting position in its typical Aliex coffin case. I can recommend trying the Hroudland for yourself, I have a 5¼" right wrist, 5⅜" left and the collosal piece fits well, thanks to lugs that curve pretty far downwards. So if it fits my skinny old woman's wrists, it'll certainly fit a man with a relatively large ( to mine) 6½" wrist. Oh, and the Hruodland has the exhibition caseback that your Merkur really needs! Great review though, I'm ordering one of those ASAP, I love the lime green dial as I'm shallow when it comes to colours. 😉
I'm surprised they didn't put an exhibition caseback on that watch. Then again it probably would have added to the cost, and they would have wanted to polish the movement more...
Really nice one, I would not have expected such a nice looking hand-wound movement, too. It's a bit sad there is no see-through caseback. I am intrigued!
Bought one of the Pierre Paulin versions in a salmon color for my girlfriend. It's a great little watch. I'd recommend for anyone. Man or woman. Built very well and looks amazing,
Picked up a MAMACOO's watch as my first watch last month and I’m absolutely in love with it. Perfect size, looks elegant, very comfortable. Now my only problem is holding off from buying more watches so quickly!
Too similar to Longines' rendition of sector dial. It has Chinese Standard Movement aka TongJi inside, a cheap vintage Chinese movement - this version has better finishing as Ben has noticed, but it's still a TongJi. Back in the day the Communist Party ordered all watch factories (with few exceptions) to cease production of their proprietary movements in favour of a reverse engineered and simplified Swiss movement.
I had the same watch, salmon dial branded Pierre Paulin. It’s a Tianjin movement. Mineral glass. Sold it after a few months as it got no wrist time but it was very nice.
I bought a watch from AMZWATCH lightly used for my last milestone birthday. Don't wear it as much as it deserves, but not afraid to, either. It's stunning . Good taste, Sir.
Very nice one, seems to be a lot of watch for the money. That dail color really makes it stand out. A real summer watch🎉😊 I would put it on a darker strap though. Makes the dail stand out even more…
I have the Salmon dial "Watch & Co" version. Love it. However mine has a HORRIBLE engraving of a watchmaker and his hands on the back. Wish it had the case back yours has.
Could you please review desanders watches either on this channel or your main one? I'm thinking of ordering one. But no mainstream channel has covered it.
My Sugess with the swan neck complication 1901 movement was just cancelled after waiting for it for 20 days, you know the Breitling top-timer look alike 😉. Don't worry they are going to refund me in another 20 day's hahaha xD. I was about to reorder the watch, but after seeing this one,...ahh who am i kidding, I'll probably buy them both 😅. Tnx Ben 👍.
@@colinbenfield326 I own two Merkur watches (other models) with the same movement as shown in this review. TongJi is a small movement, it had to fit into 34 mm watches which were the standard size back in time.
Merkur the problem was I just got their Pierre Paulin jump hour last week and yes it looks gorgeous, but it "jumps" at the 45 minutes mark instead of the 60. And now I have to ship it back to China on my dime!

Looks like an old King Seiko movement. Decent. Show it off, that’s better looking than a Seiko NH, 4R or 6R movement. Im glad you opened it! I will pick one up during the next sale.
Dude. They give you more for your buck. Unlike. A la Apple (ala cart) pay more get less. By your tone of voice, you really want to find faults. But the little watch. Keeps on thinking and giving. 😊
Funnily enough, MAMACOO's replicas are perfect for people who can actually afford a luxury watch. Because in those social circles, it wouldn't matter and everybody would just assume it's real. You have a yacht and a beach house in Tuscany, of course that replica is real. There isn't a millionaire out there going around with a jeweller's loupe to scrutinize their acquaintance's watch. They'll just go "Oh is that a Patek? Nice, I should really get my hands on one of those, they look great."
Beware of Merkur watches. Their customer service is the worst in the business. Unfortunately I have direct experience with the shenanigans they pull if there is a problem with your watch purchase. In short: They are scumbags.

Merkur is one of my favorite AliExpress brands. Heck to me they're at the level of every other microbrand, this one happens to be sold via AliExpress
It 100% does.
Long term they definitely should do that. But I am sure it will be painful in terms of sales initially
So Merkur to you is a Chinese name, then
@@FormulaWhiplash it absolutely doesn't.

@ Watch & Co. Weird, isn’t it ?
Looks like a mish mash of the Baltic MR and the Longines Heritage Sector, cool af tbh
Don't care what movement it has, that's a beautiful watch for a beautiful price.
It's a Fanzhi M01X/M01D (CSM Tongji) movement, as said by others a chinese standard movement modified by Merkur.

I think the 12 marker balances out the small seconds at the six. Excellent find!

I somehow like the naming. Merkur - Peking is perfect German.
Should come with sapphire crystal, but it's nicely domed.
The movement is probably a modified version of the Tongji movement
