WhirlPool Duet Dryer Will not Start but powers on.

- After spending countless hours researching why our dryer would not spin, but would turn on and had no error codes, i thought why not make a short video and be just on point to save someone hours of researching.
The most common culprit is the thermal safety switch right at the bottom in the front. It comes off very easy as you see 4 little screws right at the front bottom. In my situation it was not that, so i had to dig deeper.
The next most common part to cause this is the switch for the pulley tensioner. The wheel broke off and the switch opened. The drum will not turn. I found the part on Amazon and Ebay but could not wait 2 weeks to receive it. It was sold for around 15$. I called a local appliance store and they carried the part for 31$ plus tax...Cost me 35$....We can't wait 2 weeks to do laundry and use the dryer so I purchased it.
The part # you need is 279640 and its a standard size for the Whirlpool Duet dryers. It's the wheel tensioner.
Hope this helped..... - Навчання та стиль
Great vid! My belt just fell off. But I love these type of videos. Straight to the point and lists multiple potential issues. You rock!
Glad it worked out for you. Thanks for watching!!!
Hi. My dryer is also doing this clicking sound but my pilot is fine. Belt isn’t broken. Door switch seems to be working. Any more ideas?
@@kissingbanditt how do i put the new belt on please?
Your video was an immense help to me. I recently replaced the belt and rollers on my gas powered Whirlpool Duet dryer because it was making a dreadful squeal when my wife tried to use it. Had everything installed and returned the gas line, etc only to discover that the dryer wouldn’t start, and it only made a clicking noise when I tried to start it. One video suggested it was the electronic assembly, but nothing looked amiss. Found your video and discovered that the belt switch was still activated. Once I adjusted it and tested the dryer, it began working normally. Thank you! 😊
Thank you very much for this video. My tensioner wheel broke off also and I followed this with great success. I got the whole bracket with wheel already installed on it for $25.00 Gave me a chance to shop vac all of the lint in there and around the motor too. Once again THANK YOU !!
That's amazing. Thank you for watching and I'm glad the video helped you. Have a nice weekend.
Where did you get the part?
Sir, Perfect. I opened up my dryer. pulled the thermo and it was open. I am ordering the part now. Thanks a Ton.
Replaced it, it worked for about 5 loads then failed again. Any clue why this would be?
My dryer just stopped about 20 minutes ago. Can’t wait to troubleshoot according to this video. Thank you for posting!!
Thanks for the comment!!! Hope you get it going.
If a watching watching this video has a bad thermal fuse, you need to clean out your lint screen holder and dryer vent. Also at the end of the dryer, it sounded kind of noisy. There will always be a noise when the drum seam passes over the drum rollers, but this sounds like rubber skid marks on the drum. They can be scraped off with a puddy knife and will significantly reduce the clumpy noise. This noise and the reason you have belt and or tensioner problems is from overloading or overuse. If people would stop putting huge loads like all their jeans at once or shoes, rugs , big blankets etc, you will save yourself alot of problems. If you ever work on a dryer, clean the lint screen holder, inside the dryer and try using and electric (not gas) leaf blower to blow out the vent.
Very well said.
Thank you! I fixed mine for 25 bucks! I checked the thermal switch first just like you said and that wasn’t it, so I figured it was what you said, the tensioner. You helped save me money! I appreciate it!
Also, someone’s comment about the dryer squeaking and it was their tensioner too, confirmed the problem. Now everything is working great!
Im
So happy you got it going. Thats so cool. Thanks for watching.
i was searching multiple places and couldn't get a "tell me like a 5 years old". thank you so much
Holy crap. I’ve been searching for troubleshooting steps for our Duet for a day now. I don’t have a schematic to walk through the circuit. I’ve already ruled out the thermal switch, it tested good. I was going to start mucking with the motor tomorrow, I couldn’t “see” what was in series with the motor. I do know that our tensioner is in place and the pulley is there, however, I didn’t inspect it like this. Thank you so much.
YOU'RE WELCOME...IF YOU NEED A SCHEMATIC, I HAVE ONE, CAN ALWAYS SHOOT YOU AN EMAIL...THANKS FOR WATCHING.
Excellent video !!!!!
Mine was the thermal switch I replaced it and the dryer is working fine. Amazon had the switch delivered promptly and we were back in business. The part is cheap. Saved our family money, if we were to have a repairman come in I’m sure it would have been expensive.
Thank you for the video, very much appreciated.
Glad you’re up and running. Saved a few hundred dollars for sure.
Any chance you can send me the thermal switch link so i can purchase?
Do you have a link or part number for the switch I want to order both to be safe
Took me right to the problem. Great video man. Easiest thumbs up I’ve ever given.
Thank you so much was looking at replacing the dryer until I found this video.
Theo, huge thank you man! Your video was spot on and it helped me resolve our issue.
Ordered the new thermal switch on Amazon for $4.98, and it was delivered two days later. Installed that same day and now the dryer works great.
I spent hours in Sunday trying to resolve the issue with error light. Bonus fact is that the entire dryer has been cleaned inside and out!
Thank you so much!
Glad the video helped you. Initially i spent a day scratching my head also. Then i had to pull schematics out. Yes, for a few dollars you saved a thousand bucks.
Well, thanks for watching again.
@Thejripley1720 - Can you pls share the part you ordered at Amazon?
How did you access the thermal switch? Trying to figure out how to get in there but don't see any screws. lol
@@ADHDResourceSpecialist There are two screws on which the thermo switch is held. You can remove them using a socket wrench.
Thanks for putting this video up. In my case, I was able to clean the thermal switch and it started working again. Your help is greatly appreciated!
Thanks for watching and commenting.
Great video. It helped me out alot. It turns out I had a broken belt. Thanks so much for posting
If this guy ran for president, he’ll definitely get my vote!!!! Thank you bro
Thanks so much for the kind words. Hope you got it working and saved some cash.
Thanks for the video. This was exactly what I needed, as mine quit working, and all the sensors seemed to be working but I found the broken belt. I held up the tensioner arm and all works as it should.
Glad it helped you out and you got it fixed. Thanks for watching!!
Excellent!! Came home from hunting and my bride said the dryer went clunk and stopped. 10 mins later...yup..the wheel had worn our just like yours. 👍
Thanks for watching and glad i could help you. Hope you shot something good. Bride might get upset if u come home empty handed. Lol
You are THE KING...excellent video. Ordered parts and fixed dryer in 5 minutes. Now do a video showing how to get son the clean out the LINT TRAP!!
Very happy you got it going!!! Thanks for the kind words also.
Where can I get the part?
I saved a lot by watching your video and fixing my dryer! I was tempted to buy new one. Thank you 🙏🏾
Glad you got it working. Thanks for watching.
Thanks a lot for your video. I had the exact same problem and now it's fixed. It's hard to believe that this critical pulley tensioner is made so cheaply, no wonder it breaks so easily !
GLAD YOU FIXED IT...YES, VERY CHEAP...THE NEWER THE MACHINE THE CHEAPER THEY'RE MADE IN MY OPINION...
Not hard to believe with a whirlpool. Mine has had the door seal fall out, the plastic door cover fall off, and now I'm looking at this video because the thing won't start.
Thanks so much for the video. Saved me a bunch of money by you pointing out the tensioner switch. That ended up being my failure point.
You’re welcome. Glad you found and fixed the problem. Thanks for watching!!!
I want to find you and give you a hug (in a socially distant sort of way 😂). Seriously, this JUST happened to our Duet.
This is giving me a great game plan to address the issue. Great video!
Hugs over masks, lol, happy the video helped you.
Mine broke 3 times:
1st was the 12V DC Relay in the control board (left leg). It blew.
2nd was the thermal fuse attached to 2 light blue wires mentioned in this video
3rd was the Relay blew again, but this time the right leg. Replacing the relay needs to remove old relay from board, buy new relay, clean the board and put on new relay with some soldering work.
Yes take your time and DIY and save yourself hundreds of dollars. Good Luck.
Great video, right to the issues and the repair. Thanks
Thank you very much. My Duet dryer has the exact same symptoms. Now I just need to pull it apart to check for those two problem spots to see which one is the culprit.
Ever find out the problem my dryer just died
Thank you brother. Excellent, right to the point video. I agree this was the best thumbs up I’ve given so far.
Great video, thanks for sharing this info. My pulley is good and the whole belt system was recently replaced so it is likely the thermal switch or the fuse on mine. How do I know which is the problem?Do I need to put a multimeter across to test and if so what should I be looking for in terms of amps?
excellent camera work. I could see everything well thank you!!!
glad it worked out for you...thank you for watching also....
Thanks so much sir! My dryer had a bad thermal switch, and I also found $3.90 in change so that almost pays for the replacements 😁
That’s amazing news. Glad you got it and did the repair.
Great video! Thanks for taking the time to help us.
Thanks for watching and glad you got it working.
Thanks for the video. This is exactly what happened to me. I put a bunch of wet items, including a few fleece blankets, that were too heavy (should have done an extra spin! 🙄), and it messed up the belt/pulley!
Thank you so much!!! With your help I fixed my dryer, it was the same problem but with the thermo switch Thank you
Glad you got it going and repaired it. Amazing!!!
We have the same dryer, doing the exact same thing. Going to check it out today.
Thank you so much for your video, it helped me a lot. I completed this task succesfully.
This is one of the most helpful vids I've ever watched relating to diying in general. Do you have a vid showing how to replace the wheel tensioner and belt by chance?
Great video! I was scared to death to attempt! But, not now! Thanks
Much appreciated Theo, sure enough I had the exact issue! Repair kit on way including rollers, pulley wheel and belt while Iam already there.
Im glad you figured it out. Thanks for watching.
Thanks for putting this out there man!
God bless you! I'm was able to fix my mother's dryer today bc of this video!!!
Awesome info Had the same issues but was able to identify the problem thank you
You are the man! Thanks for this video.
I find the main control under the top of lid is usually blown. You can remove board from plastic assembly and see where board has shorted. Had that job today. Installed new board and it’s still powering on but not running.
Mine turned out to be a broken belt - already replaced the pulley months ago. Thanks for the vid - encouraging for working on it again instead of dropping $1000 for a new one!
A
Mm
Was it easy to replace belt and where did you pick it up at? Mine is broken as well.
@@npc118 it was easy - the belt was available at a local appliance shop - good luck!
Did you install the belt by disassembling the machine’s front panels or its rear panels?
I can't remember for sure. I think I basically took the entire dryer apart.@@samm.2213
thanks!!! same issue tensioner flozen tripped off belt, was able to pull off from front will try and install from front as well. Wish me luck,
Had my main board repaired, good as new!!!
Another thing I'll add. After I replaced the broken belt it was turning very slowly. I had to spray WD40 on the "wheels" that are on the inside. You can see one above his finger at the 1 minute mark. I believe there were 4, two in the front and two in the back. After greasing these up it started spinning normally. I believe this is what snapped my belt. My tensioner was still intact. Hope that helps someone. Thanks!
You're Ready to do Appliance Repair and Flipping . you know alot 👍🇨🇦
You the man. It was the belt ,it snapped. Appreciate Ya
How did you get belt back on and do you know the part number
I have the exact same problem. It started tonight. I hear the click when I press start. Will pull the machine out this weekend to view the wheel tensioner. However, my diagnostic code states an F50. Which could be the water valve or PCB. WoW. So much to look at. But buying all parts and doing it myself (as I researched two years ago and fixed my thermal fuse) had a repairman replace the heating element two years ago. I figure if I replace the tensioner (if needed) the water valve (if needed) AND the PCB, it will all still be cheaper than a brand new one.
Thank you! I was able to diagnose the problem (with the belt - replacement) with the help of this video
Thank you SO much! my problem was the thermal fuse. My dryer is back to work.
Two time user! I had to solder the panel last year. Easy fix! Yesterday it quit again and discovered that the belt had broken. Also easy to fix. I didn’t know there was a tensioner switch. I do now! Thanks!
Thanks for your comment and for watching!!!
I have a whirlpool duet as well, but the buttons and knobs are completely different. Did not matter though, because the belt and tensioner were the same, and it was the same problem. Replaced the pulley and was good to go!
Glad you got the issue resolved. It’s such a common problem. Thanks for watching!!!
Thank you for the tip I couldn't find my voltmeter so I found your UA-cam page the thermo switch was the issue $16 issue. Would really like to Thank you for your assistance salute.
Thanks for the kind words and glad it helped you. I appreciate it. Thanks for watching!!
@@kissingbanditt absolutely
Thank you. The tensioner switch was a helpful hint
Glad you fixed it. 👍👍
Thank you for telling me it should be normally closed…bought 3 new ones and 2 of them were bad…thought I had a more serious issue lol
Glad jmi could help. Thanks for watching my video.
Thank you, great video. Exactly what I needed!
Glad you got it working.
Thx buddy.. you're video helped me fix my dryer. Much Appreciated!
Glad you got it working and thanks for watching.
Thank you! Great explanation fixed my problem 👍👍👍
Very nice, glad you fixed it. Thanks for the comment and for watching...
I had the first problem! Thanks so much!
Thanks for watching...
Nice video. Mine was doing the same exact thing. Found a broken belt, so the tensioner switch was not making obviously.
Great! Thanks for watching also.
Thank you sir! Took me straight to the problem.
Thanks! I fixed my dryer with an 8 dollar part ❤️
I do not believe you untill i see that video 😀👍
You guys don't understand this guy saved me about $12oo video was so helpful
Thank you for watching and the kind words!!
Also adding: None of the prior part numbers were actually my issue. When I got inside the cabinet my problem was a broken belt. The part number for this is: 661570V
Thank you for the video. I have the Whirlpool Duet Washer model WFW9550WR00 and it stops in the middle of the cycle and no error code. If i power it off by removing the power cord then it works again. Do you know how to enter the diagnostic code to be able to see the error codes on this model?
Thanks for helping us for saving money and time.
Glad you got it working.
@@kissingbanditt thank you very much
Thank you so much for posting the video. Have the same Whirlpool Duet dryer that has the same issue. Power is on, the start button is clicked when I pressed it, but nothing happens.
That's very nice, glad I can help. I hope you got it working...
thank you for your video very interested nice and clear good job well done
Thank you. Exactly what I need...
Great video! I’m stumped on mine. Door switch seems okay, thermal fuse, thermistor, and thermostats are good or replaced. Tensioner system is in place and appears working. I had a lot of lint inside dryer cabinet even though rear venting was clear. Read the interior seals are crummy on some of these duet models.
I have learned to keep extra belts, door clips and heating elements on hand for fast repairs. This is the first time the thermal switch has gone bad. Great video! Thanks!
Excellent video, thanks a million Sir!
You’re welcome. Glad you liked it and thAt it helped you.
Solved my problem 💯, thanks Mate
Thanks for video this was very helpful.
Thank you for the video, have the same problem, the problem now, is to find the right wheel
If you have the identical machine, then i left all the info and part numbers in the subject / description line....thanks for watching.
Mine was the burnt/popped solder on the back of the board. If you have the problem it's very obvious when you take the board out and turn it over. I just put some soider on it and started working again I guess we'll see how long it lasts
Mine was throwing the f:24 code so i replaced the inlet thermistor and fuse and neither helped. any ideas?
Thank you first vídeo I watched and exactly my problem.
You’re welcome. You Mex?
I have a whirlpool dryer. The belt is not broken, but it won't spin, so I'm thinking I have the same problem as you. Thank you for sharing
Thanks for watching and hope you get it working.
Well I was lazy and rotated the drum manually counter clockwise to rotate the clothes backwards so I could reach for a specific item and heard a loud pop. Now the dryer has this problem you show in the beginning plus the drum spins freely. Hope it’s a simple fix once I take the back off and look.
Hope everything is a simple fix for you. Thanks for watching.
My exact problem. Thanks for the video!
Thanks for watching
Excellent video. Thanks a lot.
Thank you for watching.
thank you for sharing your knowledge! gonna give it a try :)
Thanks for watching and hope it works out for you.
Thank you so much! ..you helped me a lot!
glad i could help and you got it fixed....denada.....
Thanks man! Good video!
A big thank you! I hope it's one of those issues.
Good video, but.... Would like to know how to remove the thermal switch and test it.
Thanks for posting. My dryer makes the same noise after pressing the start button.
Also, did the wheel bearings squeal at all leading up to the failure?
Do you guys like these washers and dryers ? I'm about to get one
Bro thank you very much that was so helpful for me
Glad the video helped you. Thanks for watching!!!
So the issue with mine is that it spins little to none( place in 2 towels and it stops spinning ) and I can't figure out why any suggestions thank you in advance your help is greatly appreciated
I have a GEW9250PW1 that doesn't light up at all, nothing. Not sure which board would be at fault. The thermo fuse is shot and one is on the way. Any ideas?
Seems with my washer its a fuse maybe. When it does power on, other buttons work as the power button, if that makes sense. But most times it still won't cycle on unless we continue to play with it.
Thank you. Super helpful!
Glad it helped you. Hope your dryer is good now and thanks for watching!!
wow great job, you made it
Charique28 Vlogs yes yes. Long time no talk
Should I disconnect the gas line when repairing making this repair?
Thank you for the info helps a lot
Glad it helped you. Thanks for watching.
What does it mean if on a Samsung dryer it has a d80 on it and is blinking the flow sense light? I don't know what it means 😕
I have excatly the same issue and I can't seem to find the problem still. Belt is good , wheel is good , everything is on. Thermal fuse good, and all other thermostats. I did the diagnose test as you did and the all passed but still not running. Although the sensor passed I don't know how to test the move sensor harness. But it passed the test. No error messages display on my unit. It's a Kenmore Elite HE4 smartheat quietpak9 electric dryer part no.8527830 and seems to have same diagnose and layout as yours. Any advise or help would be much appreciated. My door latch is good to and light works too on it. Power is on and all buttons works as normal but when I click start. Does the click sound turning on and off but won't spin or start any drying cycle. Been trying to figure this out door a week now and I can't find the problem.
