    That's a real car and a real engine not like today's garbage egg shells on 4 wheels powered by lawnmower satass engines

    I miss my "Blue Goose". My first car was a Delta 88 with a "455 Rocket" engine and detent downshift. It has some real power.

    It is 1968 Oldsmobile Delta 88, 2 door Holiday hardtop. Awesome car. It look like a Batmobile from 1965 to 1968.

    My uncle had a green '68 Delta 88 and I loved that car. I remember how beautiful the dashboard was just like this one.

    Great car! My mom bought a brand new 2 door coupe '68 Delmont 88 , the turquoise color.. and a black vinyl top.... I was 13, and used to shine it so much that I almost took the paint off of the hood...........I remember the factory AC blew icy cold air.....had a black interior....loved it!!

      Even Missouri cops too, there's a reason why some people, including me, dubbed it as the first muscle car

    Beautiful car! It is nice to see what Olds had changed in 68 compared to my 67 Delta Holiday coupe.

    I had a Delta 88 2dr Coupe like this one with a 455 4bbl........the engine and transmission were in great shape, however the outside had massive rust & was ready to fall apart...It was known in the great state of Wisconsin as a 'beater'....I paid 100.00 for it and had it for 2 and a half years before the electrical system died. The great thing about tgat car is that the 455 mated with the THM 400 tranny would beat out ANY car on the road......with manual shifting, of course. .....I could get first gear up to 43 mph@ 6900 rpm before shifting......& the torque was so, so fantastic I could get a wheel from stand-still position with rubber for 50-60 feet...What a fantastic Automobile.!!!!

    My very first vehicle at age 19 was a '67, not this '68 shown. I paid $200 plus $30 tax/title/license. I'd just look at the gas pedal and that car would be across the intersection before I'd look back up. Sure, it sucked gas quicker than an alcoholic could guzzle a bottle of liquor, but with a 425 SUPER ROCKET engine under the hood who wouldn't expect it not to. My car was a golden color. It'd get eyeballed by other drivers who'd even stay out of my way while threading traffic on an Los Angeles freeway, even! I wish I still owned that vehicle. I ended up being stranded in Berkeley because of a freeze plug I would have had to lift the engine out to repair myself. All the garages asked $60 to put in a 60 cent part, so I sold it to a man in a wheelchair for $500. I have 3 pictures of me in it and standing besides it though, at least. That car was my "friend" and got me to work and back without any frets involved.

    My first car was a 68’ Delta Custom. Mine had the bucket seats and floor shifter automatic, I’ve never seen another one of these cars with those options!

    I used to drive the family 1968 Olds 98’ sedan - - rocket 455. Had big torque, and the Olds’ service manual spec’d the compression at 12.8 - 1...great power and fuel economy when burning tetra-ethyl 95 octane...

    Solid Car. My dad had one. The paint on his was terrible though. Amazing the paint on the car in the video has such good paint. Definitely garaged. You must have got a good one too. GM had lousy paint in 1968. Maybe my dad's car's paint couldn't hold up to the air pollution in Bridgeport, CT. The 455 with Turbo Hydramatic has great low end torque. Even with the 2 bbl carb and regular gas. The 4 bbl Quadrajet and higher compression engine with Premium gas made these cars fly.

      My first car was a '68 Delta 88. Back when I had it there was a woman who worked in a parts shop who tried to argue me down that I didn't have a "455 Rocket" engine at the time. Good memories driving it.

    They are sick, there's one for sale close by to me for 7500.. I wish I had 11k so I could afford it and the fuel injection and MSD ignition it'd need to be able to be drivable. (gas is still around 3.50/gal for regular here in Northern California)

    I was looking at the paint on that car thinking to myself that is old enamel paint naw it can't be then in the video its mentioned all original bingo. The old enamel paints have depth almost like its heavy not like todays color/clear coat which is thin crap. That is a survivor car that's for sure.

      retroolschool I do notice things I don't know the juicy details about cars, like I said you can tell the old school paint it has the depth especially those dark burgundy colors. You look at todays cars the paint is flat it doesn't have the depth to it.

    Maybe you can help me out. I had a 67 Delta 88 Custom Sport with the 455 and 4 barrel. Bucket seats etc. The automatic transmission had a "S" position. What did this position mean? It definitely increased the acceleration. Bought it brand new just after the 68's hit the showroom floor so got a good price on it.

    • @retroolschool
      @retroolschool  6 років тому

      My dad also had this gear for passing cars, he said it was S for super.

      That's what the salesman told me. At the time never thought anything of it. Now I wonder what it did do.

    • @steadfastneasy26

      @James Oldman
      The "S" stood for second, as in second gear.

      Interesting as I had the line ticket for it and it definitely stated it was a 455. If I remember correctly it was also on the air cleaner canister. The 68's were already out but I'm sure it was a 67.
