June Squibb is 94 playing a 93 year old.
They always cast older to play younger, lol

I really can't say enough about Thelma. It was as humorous as it was poignant. The movie didn't spell out the all the complex themes it conveyed, just showed. It's the first movie I've watched in a long time that felt important.

  • @800Ms-k6n

June Squibb is already 94 years old and has been in the entertainment industry (mainly Broadway theater and movie) for 7 decades and it's kinda sad how she doesn't get enough credit for her work. The last major work that she had done that recieved huge acclaim was in Alexander Payne's Nebraska which gain her first ever Oscar nomination. I wish people would recognise her even more, she's absolutely delightful to watch on screen. It's a little bit shocking how "Thelma" is her very first leading role in her long decade career

      That’s a silly question.
I do, if you hadn’t noticed the username. And as Chris even mentions the Oscars in this very video, I’m assuming he also thinks it would be cool to see June nominated.

My Grandma almost got scammed out of 400 dollars last year but thankfully she was able to stop herself from sending it. I think this movie can relate to a lot of people and hopefully Gram and I can see it together.

Just saw this for my birthday a few weeks after getting back from my grandmother's funeral. Such a whiplash of emotions, cackling at one scene only to be brought to tears five seconds later. So good.

ONLY ONE CRITIC listed on RT didn't like this film, evidently because the protagonist is an elderly woman who he contends cannot be the focus of a "silly fantasy where she's "doing dumb action stuff." Since those stories have been a staple of Hollywood for just about forever, I guess if she were middle-aged or younger, it'd be worthwhile. A dumb review any way you slice it by SEAN BURNS.

I was on vacation in Orlando and the AMC at Disney Springs was doing a screening of an upcoming movie but didn’t reveal what it was. I was very confused and surprised when the movie turned out to be Thelma but the movie is genuinely so sweet, funny, and well done across the board. Highly recommend this one!

I saw this movie in my theater, and I was the only young guy there because the audience was mostly elderly (which was like 3-4 couples in my theater). This movie had me laughing. I do recommend this movie, whether you're young or old. You'll understand all the struggles.

June was an inspirational delight to watch. She played her character with grit and gusto, but showed softness and vulnerability in equal measure, which made her character much more multidimensional and real. I wish though that the pacing of the film had more pep. I started looking at my watch during the slower, dialogue driven scenes.

I loved it, I'm 40 with sudden knee pain that came out of nowhere that makes me limp unless I warm up first before taking a step or dare wear my heels and this movie made wonder how will I end up when I reach the golden age. Loved the action in it, we all can relate with our grandparents and their struggles with technology...we'll be the same too, because the technology we know now will be obsolete in 30-40yrs from now.

Some funny parts, but also some parts that reminded me of my Mom who has passed away. While we like to think Seniors are active, they are not always and the fragility in the movie is definitely true. The grandson saying he would miss Thelma when she dies made me tear up and hit close to home. Not a bad movie, but not great either.

Even if we ignore the whole “find my iPhone” technology unaddressed in this film, Thelma inadvertently posted something to Instagram while she was out and about. Why didn’t her family try calling her cell phone during all this? I mean, I know, the watch served as a narrative device and all, but…gaaaaahhhhh i loved this movie but can’t ignore this plot hole unless i actually missed something
