More than 12 years later I still get goosebumps watching this, the most tense game I have ever seen. As a saints fan I still hate that relayed the match rather than just add extra time like every other sport.
As a pies fan I'm so fuckin happy there was no extra time. I have no doubt the saints would've steamrolled us. It was their day. Not many teams get a second chance, I knew we wouldn't lose the next week.
After rewatching this, I am so glad they've gotten rid of the replay. That was so shattering for everyone on the field, in the sheds and even us watching at home, including neutrals like me.
I don't care whether there was no winner or whether the AFL wants more money; the point is this was an absolute EPIC encounter and has already gone down in history as one of the greatest Grand Finals of all time, regardless of the result. Both teams played superbly until they had absolutely nothing left in the tank. Personally I can't wait for the replay... whoever can play well following a Herculean effort like yesterday will truly deserve to be Premiers.
whoever says maxwell isnt a good captain. obviously doesnt know afl footy. The efforts he did in the final 10 minutes to keep his team in the game is remarkable.
7:53 "A picture paints a thousand words..." indeed. Gentleman, that very shot is what sold my american eyes on Aussie Rules Football forever. I suspect this final and any clip of a great 'mark' will do more for the spread of AFL than one can imagine. Football + Basketball + Soccer + Hockey = Aussie Rules. The best overall athletic competition modern man has invented.
That is what finals are about. The fine line between the pleasure of winning and the agonizing pain of defeat. Draws leave you feeling empty. You don't feel like you've lost but you don't feel like you've won either. If they had left the 2010 grand final as a draw and given both teams a cup it would've felt like a hollow victory.
not denying either team's talent or anything but come on, that is bullshit, why wouldn't you have overtime, it quicker, less expensive and everyone gets what they want which is to get the fucking game over and done with, not drag out another agonising week.

Quite possibly the biggest 'what if' moment in sporting history. What a time.
that bounce will haunt saints fans till the day they die

To this day...I still believe that milne could've gotten that goal

That Stephen Milne bounce was the hand of God

I'll never forget this game. I'm so glad the AFL changed the rules around this and we'll never again have to see the GF be replayed a week later

I don't know why I keep watching this, it hurts more and more everytime I watch this. Bad luck ST Kilda :'(
@SpawnofChaos2010 That is absolute gold!
One bounce away from Ross Lyon being a Premiership coach already
no matter who wins next week, people will remember 2010 for the Grand Final draw - as an Essendon supporter, i couldnt have imagined a better result!
I was at Federation Square that day. The feel at the end was so surreall.
This is my favorite grand final.
I still get the same feeling in my gut as I did on game day, GO THE PIES!
