Bought the red version a year ago for 18 euros and is one of my daily watches for work. Best quality/functions/price that you can find. Very comfortable. Inside it has a steel ring protecting the module plus mineral cristal and double gaskets in the pushers. Probably is more shock resistant than some fancier G-shocks.
Casio watch collecting is a addiction. I completely understand how Greg feels when he says " I still might go get the other one". I have so many models in various colors , especially my collection of Casio Riseman GW-9200 , Casio Rangeman GW-9400 , Casio Gravitymaster GR-B100 and Casio Mudmaster GG-1000
Addiction is such a negative word. I understand that people use it in a less-serious way when they talk about watch collecting but, I don’t know. It’s a hobby.
@@GoodTimekeeper I agree. It is “word inflation.” When we use big words for little things we no longer have words for big things. Words like “love,” “hate,” “enormous,” “unique,” “shocking,” etc. are losing their power. If you can take care of your family and pay your bills and put money aside, you are not “addicted” to watches. If you are living under a bridge with five Rolexes, maybe you have a problem.
Just discovered your channel! For years I have been collecting mechanical, mostly automatic watches and totally disregarded quartz including Casio. I took the plunge a few months ago as I do a lot of trekking and mountaineering and wanted a tougher watch. So first got a G-Shock GA-700-4ADR, nice functionality and very tough. Really liked it. Then a few weeks ago I got a G-Shock Mudmaster GG-1000-1A3DR, with temperature, compass and all the other usual functions, and I can't take it off. Brought it trekking in the Taurus Mountains of Turkey and it took all the punishment without any damage at all. The only weakness was a mineral crystal but I got myself a sapphire glass crystal protector on it, totally invisible but saves it from scratches. I've suddenly become a Casio fan! Look forward to seeing your other videos.
Have you ever seen the Casio ae 1500 wh 1 av? It is listed as a “youth” watch, not as tough as a G shock, but the most legible face imaginable. Under $20.00.
This is my everyday go-to watch. It has all the critical mass functions I need, is easy to use, and adjust, it's comfortable to wear, and is well put together. Can't fault it at all, and especially not given the great price. It has relegated a considerably more expensive digital watch to a drawer.
This is an awesome watch for the money. I chose the red color way. The strap is my only worry-point re its durability as it seems a little plastic-y to me but will cross that bridge if and when. Happy New Year Greg, I enjoy your videos.
I wasn’t too happy with Casio straps in the 1980s and 1990s but these days, at least, it seems like I can find replacements pretty easily. With any luck, this watch’s strap will last a long, long time anyway.
You should try to test water resistance on these and others. People pretend like anything less than 200M can barely go in water- why not take a gamble and toss anything with a WR rating in a bucket of water or the bottom of a pool?
I've taken my Casio W-737H-1AVCF Scooba diving and it held up perfectly. Was in the water for 40 minutes and dove down about ten feet with it multiple times. Not bad for a $20 watch. The DW291 should be way more capable I think. It would be cool so see someone actually put the 100 meters and 200 meters to the test on these more affordable Casio's.
Having used this watch for over a week, I can say it seems better made and sturdier than other Casio watches in this price range. It's a nice-looking watch. A little bigger than a typical G Shock square. The 200M WR is nice, but I have yet to test it in water. But I must say that small analog clock in the upper right corner is close to useless for anyone over the age of, say, 40, without reading glasses. It just takes too long to make out which is the hour hand, and which is the minute hand. Wish they had made that dial a little bigger.
Hey Greg, I added the grey one to my collection about a year ago. I thought it looked quite ugly on the Amazon picture but in real life, I just love it! It's a beater too.
Have you ever looked at the AE-1500? Hugh LED display, best negative display I've seen. Looks like a G-Shock but 100m water resistant. I got mine at Walmart.
Honestly, I never heard the term "colorway" until I heard folks use the term in UA-cam videos. And I still haven't heard it spoken in any other forum. So, since my videos are aimed at folks who may have started investigating watches with a background similar to my own, it's just not a term I want to use.
What a great watch the DW291 is! One of the best models Casio have ever made, and excellent VFM too.
One of my favourite daily watches

Enjoying the red version. Thank you for your review.

Now, if I replace “addiction” with “increasingly fun and rewarding” then… am I kidding myself or just telling the truth? Hmmm.
I picked up the red one last year big on the Wrist but Comfortable very easy to see and use the looks remind of a robot from the movies in 60s

I've not seen the sapphire crystal protectors. Are they specific to certain watches to fit right? Could you put a link to it? Thanks.
Great instructions on how to use the watch as always. Thanks

Hi Gregg..I ordered the red one! It's on Amazon for under $29.00 today.

I’m imagining something like a 10-gallon aquarium and I just dump a few dozen watches in the water… then pull them out one by one.

There is a new version of the dw291 Greg. It has a desert tan band with a double tang buckle. Its a great watch.
Chunky fellas them! I reviewed the standard one but I've never seen the red variant before though

I’m usually pleased to find that Casio watches look better in person than they do in the official photos.

I will have to take a look at that.
very good review.
Have you noticed that the “PM” indicator on this watch has a very short vertical stroke. So much so that at first glance it looked like a “D”!
Thank you
I picked up the same watch from Walmart its a very hefty watch fir the price
Oh guys, the 2Av and the 1Av, he’s missing the 9Av which is like the best looking watch still!
I have the Red One and very much annoyed with the small analog clock which is illegible and useless.
Otherwise, Great Watch!
I was thinknig of getting one of these anyone know what the max wrist size is?
The B-9
Thank you for *not* saying colorway.

Great watch, but it just reminds me of Shrek too much.😀
Casio watches are ment to be a beater.
Its tougher then you think
It looks like for heavy duty, it is not.
