Yup. I had this exact thing happen to me once. Galarian Zapdos as my buddy, Galarian Zapdos spawned on incense - was slightly thrown by the green ring but i still berry/ultra balled it and it turned into a Zorua. Definitely got got that first time xD

the trick there is that if its from daily incense or not, G. birds cannot spawn if daily incense is not active and it has to spawn directly from the incense
I know this is fake but if someone actually does this, then they don’t deserve the master ball in the first place. Overworld legendary. Overworld shiny. 2 digit CP. tiny. The exact same Pokémon as your buddy. If none of these are enough to show you it’s a zorua, then you should probably just uninstall the game.

Man, it gave you all the signs. The fact it's even there but can normally spawn in the wild especially at this time, it was tiny, and you can see the shiny from the overworld, making it obviously a Zorua.
Pro tip: hold the ball on the screen to see if it is hard to catch, if it is easy it is a Zorua, or if it has an outrageously minimum amount of CP, it is also a Zorua.
