- Free Text Messages with LILYGO T Echo Meshtastic based on LoRa SX1262 & NRF52840
With these new devices, you can send free text messages over a long distance without using any GSM network and Internet. You can also use these devices as GPS trackers and using the Meshtastic cell phone application you can check the longitude and latitude values I know it sounds quite unbelievable but it’s true.
And the coolest thing is these devices are upgradable, you can update the firmware which of course I will be explaining in this video. Anyway, let’s go ahead and start the unboxing. So, without any further delay let’s get started!!!

Project Description:
*********
Inside each box you will find the LILYGO T-Echo device, an antenna, and a C-type USB cable. First let’s go ahead and connect the antenna’s.
So, guys these are the Lilygo T-echo devices and all the information is printed right on the top of the box.
It has a GPS module and its TX, RX, Wake, Reset, and PPS pins are connected to these pins.
It has RGB programmable LEDs connected to these three pins.
This is a 1.54 inch SPI E-Paper display and its MISO, MOSI, SCLK, CS, DC, RST, BUSY, and BL pins are connected to these pins. Its Grey Level is 2, resolution is 200x200, and the Full refresh time is 2 seconds.
LILYGO T-Echo device is based on the nRF52840 microcontroller unit.
It’s based on the LoRa SX1262 long range wireless transceiver module and you can see its connection details.
This is the LoRa Antenna.
It has a 2MB Flash.
It also has a BME280 sensor and its SDA and SCL pins are connected to these Pins.
Its also has an RTC, BAT_ADC, and POWER_EN.
There is one touch button on the Top connected to P0.11 and two buttons on the LEFT side. I will talk about these buttons in detail as these have multiple functions.
Type C port is available on the right side. And
It also has NFC Antenna on the bottom side.

10cm range test was awesome!
I have a separate video on Lora range test using different types of Antennas.
Nice quick overview. So new. Still a lot of questions.
Brilliant!
nice presentation
👍
Great video! Question: Can the GPS tracking be disabled/turned off? Thanks!
thannk you
Do you know any use cases for the NFC and ZigBee?
is it possible to setup gps interval beaconing or is it manual from the other users side? it would have been great to GPS stuff this in the video too.
The GPS beaconing interval can be changed.
Does anyone have any information on how the screen on this device works when it is very cold? If the air temperature is 0C(32F), -10C(14F), -20C(-4F), -30C(-22F). It is very necessary to know.
I haven't tested it yet, it is a really good question. As far as I know, these types of displays freeze and then become permanently unusable from 0C(32F) and below, excluding the heat generated by the device. I mostly use the LilyGo whilst out hiking or riding MX and in these situations, it's kept close to my body and have never encountered below 0 Celsius. If I were sponsored a device, I'd totally test it below that, but yeah nah.
What antenna gives you the best range?
Betafpv Loop for 868/915 MHz or the Betafpv Moxon Antennas These are Directional antenna. The Loops are omni.
@@SuperJdear Thanks very much.
Should the one who receive the text needs to have his/her own t-echo too?
yes. you each need one. there are many compatible devices. this is one of the more fancy $$$ ones. lilygo also has a T-beam and TTGO plus other manufactures make similar products.
T echo will only talk to t echo?
what range?
up to 150 miles/240km
All-tee-um. Not ulti-um. ❤
LOL - Nice full drives. Don't you know that the SSD needs 20% free space??
How do you know he doesn't have 20% of the capacities as unpartitioned free space? Can't tell that by just seeing the drives in file explorer
Maybe HDDs hard to tell
