The Searwood XL has a pellet sensor in the hopper, that’s the only difference between it and the regular Searwood, aside from the physical size. I have a Woodwind Pro, I’ve never used the lower rack for smoking. In fact, the lower rack has never been used, I take them out before I smoke on the top rack. Among other things, I like how low maintenance the Woodwind Pro is. I use the low smoke setting for the first hour before I raise the temp and use smoke setting 10 for the duration of the cook. I plan to get a Searwood for grilling, rotisserie and griddling. I will probably never use the Searwood for smoking unless the Woodwind Pro is full. I hope future iterations of the Searwood adds a trap door to let ash drop from within the burn pot-into the ash and grease collector. two castors and two wagon wheels would be better than peg legs and wheels.
You are correct!! I thought the XL had a sensor when I read the release on the Searwood but I was too lazy to check!!! hahaha You might be surprised how much this pit smokes!! I am telling you, I was shocked the first time I did some BBQ on it!! I think that open design helps the smoke cover the food more than a drip pan blocking part of it and just going out the exhaust! But good point on smoking on the top rack! I just did another rotisserie Turkey today and it turned out even better than the one I did on video!! Thanks for watching and keep the pit fired up!!
@SmokedBBQSource what about the smoke flavour between the two, I would think with the pro there would be a big difference using wood chunks but you didn't really mention it, what do you think, or is there not much of a difference, thanks.
So with the Black Friday/Cyber Monday deal you get the sidekick sear at no additional cost. With that combo at $1200 would you still say the Searwood is the better deal at $900?
Very nice review and comparison of the two. I would make one correction though. You show having to vacuum out the fire pot. To do that, you have to get out the vacuum, plug it in and finally clean the pot. A much quicker and easier method would be to use a brush to push the ash through the holes in the side of the pot. A more complete way would be to remove the two wing nuts, for the fire pot, slide it out, dump it and put it back in. I had to use my shop vac to clean the fire pot on my old Smokefire. It is so much easier on the Searwood.
My vacuum is 10ft away from my filming area. My boys would kill me if I said they had to take the firepot out after every 3-4 cooks. hahaha Everyone has a system that works for them and just as long as it gets cleaned out. Thanks for watching!!
i am leaning towards the camp chef. It allows a great reverse searing option, (although with more money spent), but that searbox looks like it would be great direct flame option. The searwood in the main review video didn't seem very efficient, and the learning curve for the manual direct drive on the searwood seems like it isn't very user friendly. My question about the searwood is this, and its big. When it comes to cleaning and grease management. How much of that ash and grease ends up into the bottom pan? From what I have seen in reviews all the ash just gets stuck in the main manifold on top. So very little ash ends up in the pan, and grease gets stopped down the sides of the smoker, so very little grease gets to the pan. I would like to see the searwood making some burgers set to 600 degrees or does that require you to use manual mode? Its still unclear on all the reviews how the manual grilling really works, or how well it works.
@@SmokedBBQSource I can tell it's a good cooker just by the fact that you still have and use it. Weber did something right when it came to the Searwood.
These are my top 2 choices but I decided to go with a woodwind pro. It just seems like a better built grill and I rather have a gas sidekick and real wood chunks for better smoke. 💨
My colleague just published a written review of the XT on our website. Hopefully we can get a video made in the next few months though. www.smokedbbqsource.com/masterbuilt-gravity-xt-review/
Thanks but our Masterbuilt rep hasn't sent me the XT. Maybe this spring they will send one my way!?!?!? I do appreciate you watching my other reviews though!!!
@@SmokedBBQSource I get it. They were really late with delivery. Most dealers didn't stock them until late summer. You know I'll be right here when you get one ;)
Super review as usual! The racoons seem to like the grease cup on my Camp Chef Pro. 🦝🦝 The rotisserie option on the Searwood is certainly a BIG bonus - I wish my Camp Chef had it. Luckily, my gas BBQ has a rotisserie, and with a pellet smoke tube (or two) I can still get some deccent smoke in it.. I agree with your final asessment - If you had room for ONLY ONE - The Searwood would be the natural choice. - Cheers Jeff! [Ba-Bye!]
I love the Woodwind Pro but for the cost and how good it performs, I think the Searwood is a tad better!!! I love the rotisserie and the flattop!!! I use the flattop more than the rotisserie just because it is so handy!!! I am testing out a new griddle so the Searwood griddle gets a break right now!!! hahaha Like always, thanks for watching Garry!!!
Hahahahah I totally understand!!! I just love that you can so so much in the same chamber on the Searwood!!! Finally Weber got it right and I hope they come out with a more robust model down the road! 4 LOCKING AND ROTATING CASTERS!!! I'm old and got a BBQ gut, when I have to move this dang thing, I waddle around with my old fat BBQ gut, I might hurt myself!!!!! Hahahahaha Thanks for watching and you got yourself a fantastic pit too!!!! Have a great Thanksgiving!!!
Weber are very tight with their Black Friday promotions I'm afraid! I wouldn't get your hopes up. The did run them last year on the SmokeFire but assume that was because they wanted to clear stock. They are running $50 off the griddle insert, which is worth adding on, so that's better than nothing. You can get that here -> www.smokedbbqsource.com/griddle-insert-for-weber-searwood/

Thanks, brother!!!! I appreciate you watching!!
The stainless steel sales me, sooo it's the WoodWind Pro for me!
Still a great choice!! Thanks for watching!!
give me the searwood all day long, nice job jeff
i love my Searwood and Ive had a LSG 20x42!!!!!!
Heck ya!!! Now it won't last as long as the LSG but it certainly has some fantastic cooking options!!! Thanks for watching!!
If my EX6 ever dies, I'm going for the Searwood, I like how Weber does pellet grills. Nice comparison Ricer!
Every time I cook on it I think about how Troy is going to love this pit!! Thanks for watching and have a great Thanksgiving!!

Really is no wrong answer, just comes down to personal preferences. Sounds like you made the right choice for you!
Hard to beat the searwood. Great head to head comparison.
Heck ya!! I am happy that Weber finally got it right!!! Like always, thanks for watching and have a great Thanksgiving!!
It is? The windwood is way better
@@peterk814 You may be correct. I own neither.

Thanks Bobbi!! Have a great Thanksgiving!!!
Nice review Jeff, definitely like both but agree with you the Searwood would win! Hopefully you and the family have a wonderful Thanksgiving 🍁 🦃 🍺
Heck ya, George!!! I hope you and yours have a wonderful Thanksgiving too!! Thanks for watching!!
I live in Italy and Searwood unfortunately there is no trace yet
Seems like Weber are still pushing the SmokeFire internationally, very frustrating for all you international pitmasters!
I've been waiting forever for a damn Black Friday promo code on the Searwood 600 but there's nothing, wtf!!

Same!! Every other pellet grill on the market is on sale on Black Friday EXCEPT for the Searwood! grrrr
