There are lots of factors to think about, ie. which direction the room is facing (N, E, S, W), how much natural light it gets, the tone/warmth of the altricial light, the colour of the furniture within that room etc.

The bed was new (our old one was not comfy) but we got one knowing we would be either painting or staining it. 👍
Agree, very sensible. You can only spend so much time thinking about paint! Been there.
Emma, first off I really like the paint color. I know you thought it was a warmer color than the more expensive brand, but mixing warm and cooler colors works well because it's not as one dimensional. I have warm and cool colors in my house in the same rooms. When you go to do the decor it gives you so many more choices to work with!

We are allowed to do minor changes here in the UK (as far as I am aware) like changing one light fitting (or switch/socket) for another. But anything more than that either has to be done by a professional or at least signed off by a professional 👍
What a great job you are doing Emma! I love that you're not afraid to tackle any project. All DIY projects have some glitches and you are handling them beautifully! The bed stain is beautiful!!! Did you end up putting 4 coats on the bed or just 3? Keep up the good work! Can't wait for the next step in the process. (Still can't believe what an impact the changes to the wardrobes have made to the room--they are stunning!)
I have stuck to 3 for now, but it may have another before the next video goes up 🤣

Hi Emma, you are a real DIY queen! You are doing a fantastic job, the bedroom is coming along so nicely, going to look so different, I'm loving it already! 😉 can't wait to see it finished. Lucky you having a basement. Our house is old like yours but we haven't been gifted enough to have one. I just love your home, nothing like an old house, they have far more character, and they look great modernized, but still have that homely feel about them, something i just don't think you feel from modern houses. Looking forward to the next blog 😉x

You are just brilliant !! It's always "a big job broke out " in our house . So Power to ya , you are doing amazing .!! .... tip for ya ... do all your scruffy works first before you paint .. e.g. Sanding , caulking ( pro bounced corking ) 😜 etc and if you don't use your tool for the caulking , just dip your finger in some white spirit or even water and use your finger to drag the caulk smooth . Xx
Oh and please lovely one , don't stand on the bed to reach ya ceiling , or you'll break ya neck .

Love reading the comments on your renovation vlogs Emma - we are all in agreement that you are definitely the DIY queen! I am about to embark on quite a big old reno project and this is really inspiring me to do as much as I can myself and learn some skillzzz :) For now I have just spent the last few days painting doors and I'm sure my hands are going to be permanently paint speckled!

God Emma girl I feel your pain. The worst nightmare ever for every homeowner is a leak. You got there (luckily) very fast. Me on the other hand found the cause after 7-8 months. Let me spare you my nightmare, but let's just say, we had all of it settled after 1year and 9months.
But I love seeing your renovations and the house is going to look fab. I am sure. It is worth it!

I bought that same caulk tool to do around the bottom of my tiled shower. Super useful. Plus, I didn’t ream out the tip of the caulk enough so I had to screw down the gun too much to get the caulk out. I ended up puncturing the bottom of the caulk tube and had an exploding mess 😬 But I got it done 👍 Enjoying watching your DIYs!!!

Oh also a top tip I was given ahead of messing with electrics - take pictures of the wiring before you do anything. It was a good job I did because the live and neutral wires were both in black casing and I wouldn’t have known which was which after removing the box where they were labelled
Simon helped me finish that and he always does the basic electrics (switching lights or sockets) and your right about the colours. Nearly all our wiring is old colours so we always have to check what matches to what 👍

Tip for the calk, lay down painters tape on both sides lay the calk, smooth it out, let it dry HALF WAY and pull the tape up. It will have a perfectly straight edge on both sides.
Emma, that loft has potential, maybe an office or another guest bedroom 😉
We would love to convert it fully but there isn't any need at the moment really. But maybe one day as we have spoken about it and always planned to. 👍

Well done Emma it’s coming along nicely., In Australia filling in gaps etc is called caulking
I think you’ve done an amazing job Emma so pat yourself on your (hopefully not too sore anymore) back.👏🏻Nothing with DIY is easy but you didn’t give up. How the heck do you stay so clean when painting though? I’m literally splattered all over by the end 🤪. If you didn’t have your caulking tool a cloth dipped in a weak solution of water and fairy liquid can help smooth it out too. Bed looks awesome too. 😘

I feel like we’re on the same DIY journey only you’re in my dream style house and I’m in a fugly on the outside 60s flat but it doesn’t matter, I’m here for all of it. You’re also providing much motivation for me to get on with my list and as per insta message have successfully installed two new lights with six more to go!
Also, contrary to popular belief, how satisfying is watching paint dry on a time lapse?!
Its what's on the inside that counts 👍 And I never even thought about the paint drying 🤣
17:16 that’s how our attack looked. We hired someone to put flooring and sheet rock up and used it as storage for suitcases and holiday bins. It was grand to have all the extra storage space 👏🏽🤸🏽♀️🥰
Wait!!!!! Yours had sky lights!?!! Wow!!! Can you do vaulted ceilings?!?! Or an open loft to let light in and have a little reading nook?!??
We currently have to use a ladder to get up there so wouldn't be beneficial for anything - but we have discussed having it boarded with a pull down ladder/stairs so at least it is easier to access and store things up there. Although the dream would be to have a conversion and that could be my wardrobe 🤣 but I don't think Simon is keen to spend that much on a wardrobe 🙈 We will see 🤞
Emma Hill it’s a lovely big space! I was shocked to see the sky lights! And the exposed brick is gorgeous too!!!! Storage for SURE! That’s what we did (ours was pull down ladder). We stored stuff we rarely used, knowing it for hot up there in the summer. But ours wasn’t so pretty 🥰 If it we’re I woulda looked into vaulted ceilings if possible. It’s crazy! But would be so pretty 🥰

I love the wood stain on the bed! It looks so much better! Small side note, when in your loft it is best to wear a mask if you have fiberglass insulation, especially if you are moving it about, those fibers are pretty nasty. Can't wait to see part 2 :) x
