Alireza went to the Candidates and said "I wanna play blitz"

Alireza’s game was madness
What a comeback.
I think Gukesh could’ve played a bit more conservative not sacking the knight taking with the pawn instead of the knight I think he would’ve been fine but he played in to Alireza’s hands in effect

maybe, but for sure not the best practically @@Anish-im6ir
The setup and delivery of that Alireza game was riveting! Masterful story telling! Thanks Levy!
Exactly. The last game had me on such tenterhooks it was unreal. Usually he gives away a win by showing the best move and how the player doesn’t find it, but this game caught me so off guard it deserves a round of applause.
not nearly as good as watching it live though
Agreed. Master story teller.
Completely agree
Yeah great story telling by Levy here, but also great chess by Gukesh and especially Alireza. Wow!
Alireza playing a London in the candidates is the ultimate flex for the memes. Love it!
The London is 2-0 this candidates and last world championship 😎
@@jimmyfrigginpageactually insane

Now compare this London to what people play when they go for the same setup every game and just trade every piece. Night and day.
Gukesh fell for the Louis Vuitton Gambit!

Awesome awesome comment. Love this. Someone should actually invent such a gambit and then follow it up with a counter gambit called Hermes.
I thought he played that gambit in the previous round and lost badly. Today he went for the white collar defence and won 🤐

Not sure what was more insane. Hikaru being like an hour on time over his opponent or that Alireza basically went "I didn't hear no bell!"
Insane respect to Levy for pumping out these high quality recaps right after every round. There's a reason why he's the biggest chess youtuber out there! You deserve so much gratitude from everyone that plays chess.
Couldn't have said it better mate
Indeed..but also mad insane respect for Hikaru.
My guy is playing in the candidates and doing a recap after each game..
They're not high quality recaps. They're good videos, but with very little insight and explanations. To be fair he's featuring all 8 games in a single 30 minutes video, and is putting it out as soon as possible so you can't expect quality analysis.
There's almost no analysis beyond what the engine is saying. Anyone above 2000 could do this fairly easily.
He’s Great Agadmator is my Favorite but I enjoy Gotham a lot as well especially he covers all the games I liked Epic Chess a lot as well but with him it’s all Magnus I’m not into Magnus like that especially when there’s tournaments like candidates going on
I don't watch these games lives, so I was absolutely SHOOK by the end of the Firouzja - Gukesh game. What a finish!
I watched live and I was shook
That Alireza Game was Amazing, Chat was going wild!
Hikaru match was one I actually watched. Both guys being visibly annoyed was entertaining to watch.

Nepo laying his head in his arms after another instant move from Hikaru was so funny to see .. 😅

Must be heartbreaking for Nijat. Such a massive victory today, but still on last place
@@u.v.s.5583he draw, not win
Nepo and Naka showed amazing lines as well on the post game press-conference, so far maybe one of the most thrilling games, Леви, спасибо за столь эмоциональные разборы!
I love the accent whenever Levy gets excited about bishops. 4:32
"Beeshup"?
Alireza vs Gukesh shows that when you eliminate the huge amounts of prep and it boils down to sheer tactics and positional understanding and quickness of mind, Alireza is still a class apart. Fischer bemoaned that Chess is just memorization and we see that more and more every day, with players looking up at the sky for 30 minutes, not calculating but actually recalling what they've learned. The space for creativity is dwindling in Chess, but Alireza is one last ditch effort at reclaiming it.
Firouzja shows that when you are too lazy to prepare properly, you will not do well. Let's not pretend that his win was anything other than a lucky win against a player who imploded. He was dead to rights for most of the game. Even with that win, he is still aecond from the bottom and easily the moat underperforming player in the tournament.
Alireza isn't last ditch effort at reclaiming anything. He isn't doing well.
Fischer wasn't wrong, chess is still a game of memorization, if not then we would've been superior to AI chess engines
@@thebiglebrowski3695 I'm not basing it on one match, I'm basing my comment on what I've seen from Firouzja over the years. The same reason Magnus said he wouldn't compete in the World Championship unless it was against Firouzja. The same reason that when they met in Chess 360 and prep was off the board, Alireza was leading Magnus before losing the overall tie. Also calling that an implosion from Gukesh is funny. He didn't implode. He played like a Super GM who is human. Meaning he did not play perfect computer moves and therefore gave an advantage to Alireza which he seized. Gukesh didn't commit any big blunder in the endgame. Just because you can see the perfect engine moves online doesn't mean you rate the players on whether they play that engine move or not. Nor does it mean they imploded if they don't have 99.99 percent accuracy. Gukesh played a very good game, but was overwhelmed in the endgame under time pressure by one of the best blitz players in the world.
@@extremelynoobgaming4742 Even in chess-960 AI engines will still bend any GM over, just because they don't have panic, emotions factor. They'll coldly make the best move in the position, and it doesn't matter even if this move requires 50 more ideal ones in order to really matter. People just don't calculate that deep. But chess is, indeed, a game of memorization.
@@thebiglebrowski3695 I agree with you. Alireza must study a lot more chess. But, if any of other seven players of tournament (and maybe not Hikaru) had the same amount of preparation as Alireza, you would not even bothered watching their game! They would be some kids goofing around. But this does not take the chance of well preparation if one could have.
Love it when these classical games turn into absurd blitz scrambles at the end

I am heavily enjoying your content in video as-well, and while a lot of it is much higher level than I can see, you enthusiasm and genuine excitement really is motivating for learning.
I'm extremely excited for the next rounds of this tournament! Keep up the killer work man.
Exactly in the middle of the tournament, everything turns upside down (except for Fabi and Pragg who seemed to be unaffected by the chaos that unfolded around them today)

Great job Levy, the suspense and beginner/intermediate analysis is so awesome. It’s obvious that you favor certain players for your viewer base, I can’t blame you for that. But, how you cover these games makes me believe if the viewer interest was aligned elsewhere, you’d still feed it excellently. Not only a great player, but a great commentator.
I’ve been trying out chess since December, really trying to learn, and you, Levy, with your qwerkyness, knowledge, humor, and clarity do the game justice for us learning to love it.
I do see how certain GMs are potentially envious of your financial success or popularity, and how they can potentially find you disingenuous. However, I fundamentally disagree, and you should be respected for bringing more value to the game of chess through your personality and knowledge. I appreciate you, and the game. Love it!!!
