Infuriating that these atrocities were committed by " people of god" and in the name of religion.

It's TERRIBLE, TERRIBLE, TERRIBLE! I hope that the entire universe conspires in your favour, and the Great Eternal Spirit supports you in all you do. My hope is that this situation turns around very soon. God bless you my dear.

It didn't happen, not to the extent the victim industry would like you to believe. Child abuse has always been a crime and some people in some schools were convicted.
Today these cases are wildly magnified to garner a never-ending stream of money from taxpayers to lawyers and their aides.

it happened to those in the states, specifically Michigan in the 60's.. The nuns never denied or demanded a cessation of speaking the anishnaebemowin. Just as well as most didn't speak the traditional tongue.. The student body was barely over 1/2 real Indian. Today we are mixed bloods of most 1/4 in my tribe. Today I see Truth is they were some mean bitches, save but 1,2. But what is notable is the hate for some as I. Never understood the job choice, never understood their motivation.BITCHES !! I often wonder what others went through up to today. But they did put in our heads, my head this silly, sad notion of good jesus. Jesus is impossible and as evil as the nuns. And that's not hard to say,as it was/is my reality

Hearing and seeing a sweet elder lady recount childhood trauma is worse than just reading about it. f this had happened to either of my grandmothers in their childhoods I would not forgive it if I learned of it. I'd rather it happen to me than my grandparents or parents, and I'm sure everyone feels like that about their elders. I think this might be why elders are looked down on overall now in mainstream north American culture compared to other cultures around the world including of first gen immigrants who just came here .. a sort of curse for a country which broke so many families and childhoods intentionally.

The residential schools were no different than any other Roman Catholic School at the time, strict, cold and quick to hand out a beating/strapping. I do feel for the ones who it was very hard for but “White” Catholic kids lived through these schools everyday and as a society we need to start having the hard conversations because for too long the “White Man” has been the scapegoat but it’s over with now and we need to realize what the writing on the wall was for the Natives, alcoholic parents that were early in their drinking life and getting worse. The parents tried hard to get their kids into these schools and if you look at all the pics you’ll see a physically healthy and very light skinned Native children and they mostly didn’t show up to the schools in good health. I understand they were awful places but the narrative being pushed is a systemic attack on Native Americans but it was exactly the opposite and they were put into the same school system as The White kids except with a majority first nations attendance and even better educators (intelligence wise I’m not saying they had punishment easier) as the government really wanted it to be a success story, everyone did really.

Getting so sick of the lucrative victim industry trotting out these 'victims'. A good story can earn a lot of money for the lawyers.
No doubt that a lot of abuse took place but what has that got to do with today's taxpayers? Go after the perps.
Countless apologies and tens of thousands of dollars to each former student never seem to be enough.
Move on. Time to end this scam.

Are you really so stupid as to think you can fool everybody with your scams? I've noticed FN's enjoy their toys and houses. They don't want to go back to their way of life when existence was a daily struggle.
You're welcome for the fact that you are not in the stone age, although I had nothing to do with that just as I had nothing to do with your great grandfather having a tough time at school (assuming he went because most fn kids did not attend res school). See, I know more than you.
