I went to school from 2nd grade to my senior year with this woman's son's and daughters. Her dynamic display of gentleness self control and honesty were seen in her extended family. Such love and devotion to family virtue and loyalty to our community in Michigan.

I'm always impressed by the quiet dignity of the residential school survivors who tell their stories. They seem to have forgiven the unforgivable and are telling their story so we can learn from it and make sure it doesn't happen again.

Susie may be one of the most genuine softhearted reasonable and honest people around. And yes, I can tell all that just from watching this video, listen to her words and you will see clearly her frame of mind. Jesus has not only blessed her in spirit, but he's poured out a whole barrel of wisdom and peace over her to the point that I can feel it on the other side of the screen!

What an awesome woman ... and powerful testimony. Today I have been searching online about residential schools ...Forgive me for not doing so sooner but was overseas .... and my heart is breaking because of what happened. I have discovered so much pain in your people .... but even more so, I have noticed an incredible strength as each one has moved forward. This hasn't been easy ... but is happening. May each non-First Nation Canadian do our part in the reconciliation ... for it does that both sides for it to happen. Thank you for sharing this. I look forward to learning more

I met Susie working with the Four First Nation Association in Education. That would be Aamjiwnaang, Walpole Island, Kettle & Stony Point, and Moraviantown. I met lots of wonderful people in this Group, and we became friends. The Lambton Kent District School Board was partnered with our Group. I met several Principals and Superintendents from LKDSB. They too were great and wanted to work with our group. And through this partnership, we were able to elect one Trustee to sit with the LKDSB. Susie Jones was elected by the Four Bands as the Native Trustee. The Four First Nations shared their goals and ideas to promote well being and Culture. Also, we worked together to overcome any existing problems in Education. I personally, miss this group and I did learn a lot from each of them.

This is just a beautiful analogy of what I hope British Columbia's new education curriculum is striving for in its focus on First Peoples' Principles of Teaching and Learning.

This lady is amazing; so is her story. I am happy that she found the Lord - for her that was the right path; she was lucky to find that church. I think adopting white people's God is how a lot of these people survived this horrid abuse. Others were not so lucky - they wanted to simply keep their own religion or culture and go back to it once they got out of there. For them, the grief is lifelong and generational. Some were, and are, forever broken. This lady is very wise to know that reconciliation begins with going inside and looking at ourselves, and I am so glad she went home to be with her people and help them out, and could meet them where they are, whether Christian or not.

That's what alot of people don't get. Mother earth doesn't belong to anyone. From her dust we were made and the dust is what we Return to. And while we are here we take from her to live with animals and vegetables . That's alot of what was lost in translation back in the day I think. White people were trying to talk to us about owning the land when ownership of anything was something that was foreign to us. If you wanted something in your community it was given to you or you traded for it. My grandma said we(ojibway) didn't have a word for please because anytime you asked for something it was just given

Were there lawsuits against the legislation/government that allowed the government to take children away from their parents and forcibly taken to boarding school . . . It is unclear about this in the several videos I have watched. The forcible removal seems to be how the social problem of child abuse/deaths started at the residential boarding schools. I saw one video where some indigenous were happy at the residential boarding schools that the residential schools prepared them for a job when they were older, but most seemed to have been abused and deaths. Are there lawsuits about the unmarked graves, why were the graves unmarked, especially at the Roman Catholic boarding schools, unmarked graves seem like a crime scene, covering up deaths, not proper burial.

My niece was employed by a First Nations Tribe to do genealogy and investigation of one of these schools around Midland, MI. She told me these stories, and I totally believe the theft of the Nation's children, and the forced indoctrination to the 'Christian' / Anglo ways of life. They punished the children if they spoke their native language. They punished the children by making them wear white man's clothes, cut their hair, and eat white man's food. This egregious theft of life and ultimate genocide is definitely a stain on the history of this Nation.

I don’t think it necessarily follows that “indoctrination” makes you remain indoctrinated all your life. I know several people who were “indoctrinated” and are no longer. I think ultimately individuals do choose to follow Christ or not to follow Him. It could be that this good lady chose to remain Christian after her initial education.

It says in the Bible not to steal, and they stole your land. It does not say in the Bible to take children away from parents, I have not read that. I am not a Bible scholar, but I do not see what those supposed Christians did to indigenous that was Biblical, do not see the Biblical principles behind it. The Bible says to be kind to one's neighbors--taking neighbors' children away is not kind. They also forced a Christian denomination, Roman Catholic, on the children they stole from parents. How could they mean well if they did not even allow parents to visit their children either, and unmarked graves . . .
