I was listening to Apple Music through my Buchardt A-700 floor standing self-powered speakers and was very happy. Someone suggested I switch to Tidal and use a separate streamer. I just received my Wiim Ultra streamer and upgraded to Tidal. . . OMG! Soundstage depth and width opened up and imaging tightened up dramatically. Instrument separation and transparency definitely increased. For about the same price, Tidal outperforms Apple Music (even though the basic layout of the application is the same, the shuffle algorithms and music suggestions are much better.) The Wiim Ultra is a joy to set up and the app is excellent. My purchase through Crutchfield (as always) was flawless. I wish other companies were as customer-service oriented as Crutchfield. Kudos to Buchardt, Wiim, Tidal and Crutchfield - I am definitely a Happy Camper!

The no Android is the only thing holding me back from trying this thing, hopeing there's an update down the road that would fix that issue and if so I would probably get a few of these for different parts of the house.
I believe the USB port on the back on the Ultra is a USB out, not a USB in. So, I don't believe you can use that port to hook up a small SSD drive with music as the video states.
@@crutchfield It got fixed! I definitely looked at the firmware to make sure I had the latest version and I did. I even rebooted the Wiim Ultra and disconnected but, again, no luck. I even decided to open a ticket with Wiim about this matter, as I could not even see "USB" as an option on the Wiim app input or output section. Anyway, I decided to leave my SSD music drive plugged into the USB on the Wiim over night in the hopes that it would help the Wiim to recognize it and low and behold, in the morning I looked at my Wiim app and there it was... USB input and output appeared as options. I was able to scan the music and play as I thought it was I'd hoped. So, I'm not sure if Wiim pushed a new firmware update (I know I could check) or if it was leaving the SSD drive plugged in for a long time that fixed it but, I'm just happy it works... completely awesome! Either way, thanks for your response and suggestion.

@@crutchfield I have several small bookshelf speakers, such as Klipsch R-51M and Fluance SX-6. I like taking them out to the patio on days off. I connected the WiiM to my Onkyo's CD. It just doesn't sound good, and the audio feels choked. Sounds better on my Cambridge Audio Topaz AM5. So looking for something that allows me to pump up that juice a little.
You can connect a turntable directly to your WiiM's phono input, no worries there. When setting up wiim’s “room compensation” does the ultra take into consideration only the front speakers or also a connected subwoofer when taking measurements?
The WiiM Ultra Audio Streamer's connected amp, receiver, or speaker may have different audio path latency due to different hardware, software and DSP processing. To maintain audio synchronization of each component, WiiM incorporates auto calibration. This does take into consideration connected subwoofers as those low tones are playing through the calibration microphone. It is my understanding that the auto calibration deals mostly with correcting latency and not adjusting sound quality for your particular room like other room calibration features found on some stereos and home theater receivers. The latency value will be used to maintain the perfect audio synchronization in wireless multi-room playback with no delay in other zones if multiple WiiM Ultras are used.
I have a MC2105 amp and C28 Preamp, will I have to bypass my C28 in order to use this in my setup? Or can I hook the Wiim into an input in my C28 and use it just the same? My phono 1 and Aux inputs are currently occupied with a turntable and CD player. I guess I’m just confused and worried if this will wire into my setup seamlessly! Thanks in advance!
You have a total of four line-level RCA inputs on your McIntosh C28, if you have one free you can connect the WiiM Ultra with no need to bypass the preamp.
As an avid CD collector, I also love streaming music, but do I really "need" this (the Wiim Ultra), if I'm already able to stream nearly any music service through my Marantz receivers using the HEOS app?
I wonder if SMPS in the Wiim ultra can be upgraded with LPS like Eversolo streamer, because as the pure steamer Wiim pro I upgraded with custom LPS, power and USB cable was a clearly next level streamer. I know this for sure, because I have two Wiim pro and I do compare them in the same system simultaneously. With an upgrade I can hear better texture, extra bottom end, smoother and more extended high, wider sound stage, more definition on vocals, just about every aspect of sound has improved. I like the Wiim ultra, but if it can not be upgraded with LPS, I am not interested since my upgraded Wiim pro is the next level streamer already.

We have seen other companies release an app first for iOS devices and later for Android. Hopefully, WiiM does the same here! 🤞

Make sure the firmware is up to date, their recent updates have included improvements to USB indexing and the recognition of USB drives.
