He does the plastic Jesus intro because Cool Hand Luke is his favourite movie, and that scene moved him, as it would every other human being with a soul! Just enjoy the respect he gives it. And if you haven't seen the movie. Do It NOW!
Fall Line is one of the best songs he's written. I love this little mix. He does such an amazing job. So laid back, chill, relaxed...and totally into his tunes. WHICH IS WHAT IT SHOULD BE LIKE!!!!!!! Mucho Love for sharing this video!
Plastic Jesus just got me through a major metro area following my buddy that bought a car with a busted transmission that wouldn't shift, took 4 hours to travel what's usually half an hour. Jesus and Seafoam for the transmission.... we needed everything to get that auction car home. But Seafoam and Jesus, and some creative diving got us home. Praise my plastic Jesus!
My dad used to sing this to us - I thought he made it up until recently. Okay, I was a little naive. This is a great rendition of this. Apparently it was also a commercial in the 40's or 50's
He did this song last night in Atlanta and dedicated it to his fans sitting in the pouring rain on the lawn. No offense to the rest of his band but Jack doesn't need anyone else to make an amazing evening. Even with the rain I wouldn't have missed last night for the world.
Excellent recording!! Thank you so much! My country boyfriend just discovered something new!! and liked it... Jack Johnson :) I told him there is more out there than country music!!
It really gives me an uneasy feeling... like the commercialization of jesus.. and i always have those visuals of a dashboard on a rainy day and the inevitable moment your waiting for.. the crash.
1:27 By the way, you know that hope will make you strange Make you blink make you blank make you sink It will make you afraid of change and often blame The box with the view of the world And the walls that fill the frame I turn it up but then I turn it off Because I can't stand when they start to talk About the hurting and killing, whose shoes are we filling? The damage and ruin and the things that we're doing We gotta, we gotta stop, we gotta turn it all off We gotta rewind and start it up again Because we fell across the fall line Ain't there nothing sacred anymore Na, na, na Na, na, na, na Somebody saw him jump, yeah but nobody saw him slip I guess he lost a lot of hope and then he lost his grip Now he's lying in the freeway in the middle of this mess Guess we lost another one, just like the other one Optimistic hypocrite that didn't have the nerve to quit The things that kept him wanting more 'til he finally reached the core Because we fell across the fall line Ain't there nothing sacred anymore Na, na, na Na, na, na, na
MalbecMerlot: [Part Two] There are many that have misguided devotions in the name of God, but most often, this is not a reflection on any "mainstream" church or particular theology, but ones misguided interpretation of what God is and what God wants. It is amazing to me how many people hold "The Church" to blame for the misguided few; including some priests / preachers.
I had never heard Plastic Jesus till this past week when I watched the movie Four Brothers. (I almost passed, because there weren't many stars. I'm so glad I ignored them and watched anyway. Another reason I did was because of Mark Wahlberg.) If you have a chance to see it, trust me and do it. I was even happier that I watched when the final moments played.
And by the way You know that hope will make you strange Make you blink, make you blank, make you sink It will make you afraid of change And often blame
Look you can be as acidtonic as you wish about this tune that’s fine But I tell you this is got a plastic Jesus sitting on my dash board and he helps me focus on what is right in my life I don’t care what you say as long as I got my plastic Jesus
It's hard for me to percieve that anyone would dislike this song. I've listened to it at least 20 times in the last 24 hours. Thank you TSuellentrop for uploading this. I was looking for it on here for awhile and by luck/ fate I found it. :)
Hi, the last part is a freakin great cover too. It is from Greg Brown and it is called "spring wind". Found it on iTunes. He also sometimes covers "Where do the children Play" bu Cat Stevens and puts it together with Fall line...
Well im catholic and i go to church and everything and im not angry with jack, in fact this song actually gives a good idea of a lot of so called christians (not only catholic) that think that praying and having jesus and mary's pictures or items they will go to heaven and in their lives the only thing they've done was being ugly persons (not in looks) and being just the opposite of what we should be.... After all i think actions is what define us, not how much we pray :)
lol right any frat boy with an acoustic guitar can do it, that's why there's so many big-name artists exactly like him out there right...bullshit. he makes some of today's best music.
laleli88: What defines us is our faith in God, man, and ourselves. Our relationship with God has everything to do with grace as our prayer life, which reflects our devotion. Sure, many people are screwed up in our fallen nature through thoughts and actions. But that is why we need grace all the more ... prayer helps, my friend. Thank God for those who devote themselves to prayer and a Godly life. It's grace and prayer that turns ugly people inside out making right where there's wrong.
I don't care if it rains or freezes Long as I got my plastic Jesus Riding on the dashboard of my car. Through my trials and tribulations And my travels through the nations With my plastic Jesus I'll go far. Plastic Jesus plastic Jesus, Riding on the dashboard of my car I'm afraid He'll have to go. His magnets ruin my radio And if I have a wreck He'll leave a scar. Riding down a thoroughfare With His nose up in the air, A wreck may be ahead, but He don't mind. Trouble coming He don't see, He just keeps His eye on me And any other thing that lies behind. Plastic Jesus plastic Jesus, Riding on the dashboard of my car ... Though the sunshine on His back Make Him peel, chip and crack, A little patching keeps Him up to par. When I'm in a traffic jam He don't care if I say "damn" I can let all my curses roll Plastic Jesus doesn't hear 'Cause he has a plastic ear The man who invented plastic saved my soul. Plastic Jesus plastic Jesus, Riding on the dashboard of my car ... Once His robe was snowy white, Now it isn't quite so bright - Stained by the smoke of my cigar. If I weave around at night, And policemen think I'm tight, They never find my bottle - though they ask. Plastic Jesus shelters me, For His head comes off, you see He's hollow, and I use Him for a flask. Plastic Jesus plastic Jesus, Riding on the dashboard of my car ... Ride with me and have a dram Of the blood of the Lamb - Plastic Jesus is a holy bar. [Plastic Jesus has become quite entrenched in the folk tradition, so there are considerably more folk verses than there were original ones.] Here are the ones from the movie "Cool Hand Luke": I don't care if it rains or freezes, As long as I got my plastic Jesus Sittin' on the dashboard of my car. rich rohrer my biggest fear is that I'll fight in World War 2, be catholic and have a plastic Virgin Mary figurine that I put on my dashboard, get cancer and as I'm dying I will look into my sons eyes and he will mistake the look I give him. He will think that I am scared of dying but in reality the look I was giving him was trying to convey how disappointed I was in having such a stupid Fucking son who didn't know how to spell and in addition summed up my great life in a few blabbering sentences that escaped from the rotting abyss that he refers to as his brain. I hope you catch cancer and die Rich Rohrer.
yeah, in that movie it's incredible. seriously wonderful. i also really dig the flaming lips' version. a lot. billy idol's is sorta good, too, matches the darkness of luke's but more angry (obviously)

I remember hearing the last part of this song, only song by a much older gentleman with a very interesting voice, and I was wondering who was covering whom? Because I would like to hear the recording of the old man again, but I have no idea how to find it.
Nice, what movie is that from? I am genuinely sorry, i was out of order. Its just that when i hear Jack Johnson i want to hurt people but i think it is healthy that i get that aggression out online rather than offline. Seriously, i know you understand. Hit me back, just a chat, your biggest fan, this is stan.
you are watching a video that does Jack absolutely no justice.... have you not heard any of his albums at all? he is an amazing guitarist/song writer/singer... you clearly are ignorant to his talent cause theres no way any "frat boy with an acoustic guitar can do the things he does. think before you comment...
He does the plastic Jesus intro because Cool Hand Luke is his favourite movie, and that scene moved him, as it would every other human being with a soul! Just enjoy the respect he gives it. And if you haven't seen the movie. Do It NOW!
It is a classic

I love myself every morning, and every night and some times during that day.

Jack does it to almost all of his shows.

Cool Hand Luke;..Cool Hand!
yeahh.. this song was from cool hand luke. "Luke was a good ole boy"
The guitar he plays is, like most of Jack's guitars, a Cole Clark
¡Notable!
Somebody saw him jump

I guess he lost a lot a hope
And then he lost a grip

laleli88: We are saved through grace from God. No grace, no salvation. We all needs God's help, and we must cooperate with grace.
The song is actually critical of the superficial symbolism of religion if you listen to it properly.
