- Ice Age Day 27: Motel 6 Janesville (817.4)
To Stealth Camp (849.6)
32.2 Miles
Did 30 Miles by 3 but smaller mile day because met up with a buddy from the CDT and his GF Julie. Of course I’m talking about the infamous Baskets. Soooo nice to talk thru hiking and have a thru hiking culture around me for a little bit. Went to a sandwich shop and just shot the shit for 3-4 hours, once again amazing to have other thru hikers to talk to especially these awesome people!

Ice Age Day 28: Stealth Camp (849.6)
To Naga-Waukee County Park (891.1 ish)
41.5 Miles
NOTE: DID NOT want to do this type of day, had planned to camp mile 885ish at backpackers camp but 1. It was full 2. Didn’t know you had to reserve sites in the Kettle sections. This goes for shelters and camp sites. Do better planning than I did!!!!!! Timed it to get into camp perfectly but instead was thrown for a loop and couldn’t enjoy really how cool of a town Delafield was/ pick up shoes at the post office.

*This is our BASE Gear, every hike demands tweaks and changes with either more or less.
I wish there was more of a trail culture around here too. I think if the IAT was more developed, without road walks, there may be.
Enjoyed watching you and Baskets on the CDT. Hope they join you and glad you were able to meet up. This trail is a challenge.
Welcome to Wisconsin Baskets and Garden State!
Those thinned forest areas are the cleanup of tornado activity from the last couple years.
Probably a good call on the Storrs Lake segment. I hiked it in February when all the water was frozen! I was having fun seeing areas I haven’t hiked yet. Now I’m having fun because I know exactly where you are.
The ice age trail needs to be more recognized especially with the communities it goes through, I grew up in Janesville I walked most of the trail segment in Janesville but I never realized the importance of it till honestly very recently. I want it to be more recognized I need it to be more recognized.
Well it seems to be making a move in that direction, I am hoping to come out with a condensed documentary of the IAT that is properly edited and formatted to show off many of its beautiful areas as well as the trail itself to help bring some more publicity. I agree completely it is a National Scenic Trail that many people have not even heard about let alone know is there, so the more that it is hiked, biked (in areas that allow it) talked about, shown, the more people will come to see how much it can truly provide!
Aren’t you becoming a celebrity 😊. You deserve it after 3000 miles.
Great day to hike!
Great to see baskets and Julie!
Milton is my town! I hike these trails all the time, I live a block off trail. I am section hiking the IAT. Glad you liked our little town, there is some very cool history in town, namely the Milton House you passed by, if you ever come back I will treat you to a tour , my daughter works there. Storrs Lake segment is nice, there is a blue blaze connector trail there that takes you up and around the wet stuff and connects on Bowers Lake road. I cross in winter when it's frozen lol. This has been great watching you, it's giving me a lot of info, so thanks!
Glad your enjoying the videos, I know they are super long but I was trying to give as much info as possible for people that were either looking to section hike or thru hike next. Storrs Lake was flooded heavily and there was no trail to walk to it when leaving the town, I wish I was able to do that section but it had advisories against it due to all the rain last year. If you have any specific questions please let me know and I will answer if I can!
And that bench and parking lot! The single sight there isn't too bad. Kinda open but nice
ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS love the bench shots, wish I sat on one or two but when pushing miles I think that is why my camera gravitated towards them very often because they looked so so so so so pleasant!
We hike the kettle moraine sections, they're great. Lots of trail runners out there all the time.
Considering all the water from above and below would trail sandals be a good choice on this trail?
Trail sandals would probably not be the best choice for this trail, there is quite a bit of water but that was due to hiking through in a historic wet season. Also when going through some of the very dense area especially on the West side of Wisconsin the feet could get ripped up pretty easily. Once you get past Janesville if you were hiking West to East though they could definitely be more of a suitable shoe.
I recognize that tower!
Oh that tower!
