What a blessing it is that you still have your parents. My mother died in 1998 from a massive heart attack at 72 years old, and my dad died in 2005 from prostrate and bladder cancer at 80 years old. I miss them everyday. Three years ago my wife had triple bypass surgery,at 62, and came very close to death. Thank God she pulled through!

So glad your Dad is doing so much better. What a blessing. Wow, my husband just said that back in the late ‘70s when he was in Coast Guard… the survival rate for heart attack victims was 10%.. now that we have defibrillator’s it has jumped to 60%. So grateful my husband had paramedics very close by when he had his heart attack three years ago in 2021.

I have had four open heart surgeries for valve replacement and aneurysm. All of it stemmed from a congenital birth defect. I have stents due to scar tissue in grafts (replacements for arteries )in my heart. I can partially understand Peggy and John's experience. I have never had a heart attack though, thank God. . I have an awesome cardiologist who listens to me and goes above and beyond to keep me going. I am 43. My congenital valve defect was not discovered until I was 22. I am now in the process of getting considered for heart transplant list at Vanderbilt. Keeping all of you in my prayers. Thanks for letting us into your lives. You always brighten my day. ❤

Mrs. Rowe, I am so happy that PC is recovered and is doing well. Every step in recovery is a landmark and needs to be celebrated.
I recently lost my husband of nearly 38 years. It was either a heart attack or a stroke at the ripe old age of 64 1/2 years old. He had survived 2 heart attacks, 2 strokes and a blood clot surgery within the last 19 years. He was on all the necessary medications post heart attack (3 stents installed) and he never let it slow him down. He continued to run our business (a septic company that Mike would know all about from Dirty Jobs) up until the day he died. His legacy will live on with our two children continuing to run the business. Although our life together of 41 years has ended his spirit continue to live on.
Continue to dote on your PC. As you know every day together is a gift and you're fortunate enough to have each other. Blessings to you both.

My pops, William, passed in 1996 (b.1933) at 63. Melanoma got him after 25 years as a City of Portland grounds keeper. He'd have been 91 this June. My ma is still kickin' at 84, though. I call her a couple times a day, from the road (I drive longhaul); she lives in northern California, and I'm in Harrisburg, PA, today.
What a fantastic conversation that provides a beautiful view into a precious community of lives lived to the fullest. Thank you to all. Prayers for John's recovery.

So sorry to hear about John's heart attack, but I thank God for bringing him back to his family. Been there with my husband a little over 23 years ago. Had open heart surgery, 5 days later he stopped breathing. At fisrt they didn't know what was wrong with him. They put him on a ventilator & found out he picked up E-Coli Bacterial Pneumonia & said they may have to air lift him to the University of Michigan hospital but didn't know if he would make the trip. In a coma for a month, t hen to e y put him in a nursing home, who g as ve him no therapy as he wasn't approved for Medicare Disability as he was only 57 yts old, so I brought him home & had therapists come in. Only problem was he was self employed we had an Industrial Service Company, so no income until Social Secutity 5 months later.

Had not heard about your dad until now. So glad to hear he is doing so great. May the Lord give them both more time together. I just love these talks with your mom. I miss talking with my mom. Do cherish the time with them. One of my favorite memories was when she called me at work to tell me of a squirrel. She had a deck put on back of the house and squirrels would come off the tree onto the banister and peek into the kitchen window. She hated squirrels. She had the tree cut down. One day a squirrel was being chased and it had stopped where the tree had been and looked around for it, then ran off to some other tree. I laughed hysterically trying not to create a scene in the office. Miss that, however she would not be pleased with all the major topics these days. So glad to see & hear that both of your parents are doing fine.

I must say, my 2nd heart attack was terrifying. but the worst was in the surgery room I am lying naked with nothing covering me and 5 women prepping me for surgery. The lead nurse while tying down my arms asked if I have ever thought I would be in this position. Now I could laugh at this but not any normal thing about 5 women around me while I am naked. The attack and the surgery were something but this is my most memorable.

Listening to this incident reminds me of my heart attack 20 years ago. Six admissions that year, five with life support, the last was "just take me" to the wife. The first was "no reason found". Two stents second trip, then a third stent the next visit.
Mike by the way I'm 20 years older than you. For the first 10 years lived 6 houses up Kenwood Ave from the sheep farm that became Overlea High School. Lived on a Bay Tributary for the next eight years. Navy for four years then back to Baltimore for the next 20, did Essex Community College, U of B and then Towson University for a BS in Business.
I'm now in Winchester VA for 37 years. Enjoy you shows, keep it up.

My parents are/ were in a retirement community too. Dad passed 4 years ago at 93, but Mom is kicking butt after a small stroke on New Year’s Eve. She returned to IL in less than 60 days. Thank God she is living where she does!

Today I took my 88-year-old mother-in-law to the local hospital ER, she was released to go home about 6 hours later. She quipped about "tell my kids not to celebrate yet, I'm still alive and kickin'!" She was joking of course but, in that moment, I was reminded again that humor is vital to life. Mrs. Rowe, I so enjoy listening to you. Mike, you're pretty good too!

I lived through this many times with my dad. A positive attitude and belief it will work out in the end makes a huge difference. My dad was amazing.
Best wishes for a complete and total recovery for your husband and dad.
    🙏🙏🙏

Some bars in Wisconsin charge a "round for the bar" if you call out "Bingo!" Without having one. LOL! Glad your father is doing better!
