Wijk aan Zee 28 december 2023 storm Gerrit

A rare and special session with my son, daughter and her friend.
It was a difficult session, I have sailed several times in 8 Bft but on flatter waters, however this is my first time with 3.7 m2 in high waves.
A thin line between adrenaline, excitement, fear and danger. Getting out of the comfort zone a lot, it might yield a huge reward feeling, especially being in such company......will it do so ?

Bedankt Gerrit ! Zag er top uit. Recent ook van de binnenwateren de zee gaan opzoeken met een wavesetje, en is inderdaad volledig uit je comfort zone komen. Mijn eerste sessies waren dan ook echt zwemsessies voor mij 😉 ben soms al blij als ik door de branding geraak. Maar als je dan een jump maakt of een golf pakt, is dat voor mij het beste gevoel in windsurfen🤙 groetjes uit België

I know from using GoPro that waves were much bigger than what see

Average wave height out at sea was 3,2 meters, on the sandbars these must have been higher

Oh my God, in Wiijk an Zee there is a huge undercurrent heading north. About 28 years ago I had a mast break there. Good succeed.

The critical zone there is at about 2 meters depth. Can break your mast and huge current due to the outwashing of whitewater. My swimming exercise was more out in deeper water so I could recover.
