Thanks for this. However, I want photos I take on WhatsApp not to be saved on my phone at all. I already don't have other peoples' images saving onto my phone, but it's the one's I take in WhatsApp. When I want to use my phone's camera to take a photo (not in WhatsApp just as a camera) obviously I want that to save. But when I take a photo or video in WhatsApp, once I've sent it I don't want it to clog up my phone's memory at all. If I want to see it I'll be able to look at that chat in WhatsApp, I don't want to have it in my phone's memory. Is that possible?
Yes, I'm trying to figure that out too. There is a section in the settings > Storage and Data > Media Auto Download > When using mobile data = No Media. I tested it and it doesn't work, so I am out of ideas. Edit: Android
The option I can see is to remove the photos permissions for the app, but then you can't load photos from you phone to WhatsApp so not exactly helpful! Hopefully this will be fixed soon as this annoys me too!😊
Just downloading it to WhatsApp won't make it save to you camera roll of the default is not to save. You need to open the image and with the 3 dots select save. 😊
I've followed this and they are still saving to the phone. These were already both switched off. This was a new thing with s new phone. I think I'm doomed@amandalittlecott
not saving media should have been defaulrt option..idiotic of whatsapp to find this out and do it o our own..in the meantime cellphone gets flooded with junk media

Sadly haven't found a solution to that one, even with Media Visibility off it still saves to you camera roll! Annoying!😡

They shouldn't be saving to you camera roll, but they will always save to WhatsApp and be in the back up. 😊

This does not work for video notes.. any way to stop them appearing in phone gallery...
