Thanks for mentioning the meaning of the Christmas season!! So many people are afraid to say “ Merry Christmas” and possibly offend others. I served my country 53 years ago and I fought for everyone!! I have a Carl Gustaf from 1898 that is still in great shape. The Swedes treated their arms carefully and it’s no surprise they look so beautiful. Thanks again for sharing your video with us…!
Yes sir, and thank you for your service. Yeah, you're exactly right. Wow, 1898, that's really cool, I'm jealous lol. You're welcome, it's nice to be able to share my passion with others.
Not to be condescending, but it’s 6.5 Swede and 7.5 Swiss . Two completely different calibers and countries . Beautiful rifle and a pleasure to shoot. Happy Holidays!
The swedes and the swiss made the best military rifles by far. The m96 is such a fine rifle, slick action and dead accurate. You made the right decision, 600$ is a steal for such a nice rifle. Un joyeux Noël à vous, Amen !
The place on the stock by the stock disc is for a hold over plaque for Spitzer ammunition. Keep up the good work, and Merry Christmas and a happy New Year.
Pretty common for most Swede’s to be in excellent condition. I believe most of the ammo was non corrosive. The paper on the stock usually supplied bullet drop info for new spitzer bullet.
Amen!!!...Merry Christmas!...That is the next milsurp I am wanting. I have the Schmidt/Rubin 96/11, Carcano cavalry 91/38 and the Mosin M44. Started my collection a couple yrs ago. Sure love the history and craftsmanship of each gun. Enjoyed the video and you did well aquireing you M96!
A friend gifted me one of these way back when both his and mine cost under $250 out-the-door retail with one box of ammo included. A very pleasant and accurate shooter and very high quality rifles. Mine had perfect bearing on both lugs; his was slightly off. I used 'dykem' metal layout dye to check that. I checked headspace using a factory cartridge and shim stock in leiu of a gauge; again both were tight. I would recommend doing similar and also have the bolt lugs 'magnafluxed' by an automotive machine shop to check for incipient cracks. I rolled a few 'hot loads' and fired with a string before use and found no measurable problems on the fired cases with either one. I worked up some 140gr spitzer loads which tightened the groups a little but my eyes and the iron sights prevented me from doing better than 1 1/4 inch three-shot groups at 75 yards. Aiming at the bottom of a ~3 inch round bullseye put me dead-center, which correlates to the battlesight zero for these guns which IIRC is dead-on at 200 meters. If you handload you need to learn about this cartridge, as there's essentially 3 levels of 'safe pressure'. Lowest are SAAMI compliant US factory loads meant for the Sweedish Krag-Jorgensen rifles. Some European and surplus loads are a bit hotter and this gun can use them but I won't recommend it. Beware surplus MG ammo which is pushing your luck with these guns, though you're not likely to find any of that at this late date. Some loading data is given for newer guns and you should avoid going there with these; they are waaay over-pressure for this action. I like the 91 and 93 Mausers, which other than the 3rd lug on the 98's are almost as strong as they are but there's really no need to go there; the 6.5X55 is a real performer even at longer ranges and doesn't need to be hot-rodded. It's suitable for anything but the heaviest game and dangerous game if you do your part and use the right bullets. Never tried any 160gr bullets but those have a reputation for excellent penetration. You're going to likely discover this is your favorite surplus bolt action rifle, just so darn good in every way. I let mine go but I think I can still get it back and I might just do that!
Wow...a lot of very good points, when I get the time I'll certainly need to do everything to it. Thanks for the tips on the ammo as well. I'm hoping to get some PPU ammo for it soon, likely after shot show. Thanks for your input and thanks for watching!
Been seriously contemplating one of these or the Swiss 7.5. A guy I know at the local gun shop mentioned these 6.5s yesterday. They don't have any, so it wasn't a sales pitch...just a compliment. That really has me leaning this direction.
Looks like a Finish military sling. Look for SA markings on it. They used Swedish 96s in the winter war. But more than likely just put on the gun because it was what they had.
Brother 1st off, you are Correct about Christmas and it's meaning, God Bless You And man that is a Beautiful Rifle and the price is great. Thank you for sharing. May you and your family be blessed and have A Very Merry Christmas ❤

No worries, thanks for the clarification...I tend to get confused sometimes with calibers I'm not real familiar with.

a toi aussi
by the way i have a m38
@@yvescastonguay7188 the m38 is the best of the two. The m96 is to long, and a carbine version is so much more usefull !!

Cool, thanks for the info, Merry Christmas and Happy New year to you as well.
Merry Christmas to you too Sir 🎄 They say no one ever regrets buying a Swedish Mauser. Nice rifle, enjoy.
Thank you very much, I've heard they are wonderful. I can't wait to get some ammo for it and try it out.

I just bought one of these too! I also ordered the cleaning rod kit from SARCO. I like your taste in firearms
Sweet, yeah Sarco had a great deal on their M96 kit. I appreciate that, thanks for watching!

"6.5 Swiss"...
Alright that's it, United States of Armenia it is now.
Jk, loved your video friend.

May suggest using Federal fusion ammunition its far better than ppu ammo. I have a 1900 M96. lol
Wow that's awesome! I need to visit some of my local gun shops to see if they have any.
you kept referring to the rifle as a SWIS model - it is actually a swedish
