- here is a 2022 Ural Sidecar Motorcycle that has been outside in the cold for some time. Air temp is below 0 degrees F. We had planned to leave the unit outside for a long time to completely cold soak, but ran out of time. still a good video with useful cold starting performance information.

Bought a used one from them couple of yrs ago...not 1 issue yet...they send me oil change parts, 2 new rated tires and tubes..good shop!! Nice folks...having a blast....got groceries the other day. Came out to load them in the sidecar..a new harley, a new Indian, and a can am were all parked around me admiring my ural. Other shoppers came up and said my ural was better looking than the others!! Groceries fit nice in the trunk too...

Nothing worse than a cold unit. But, yours started right up !! Good job Ural.
I used to ride mine (2012 Patrol)all through the winter in Fairbanks, AK. Though I put a silicone heat pad on the side of the engine to warm the oil a little. And had an group 24 battery in the sidecar. The stock battery would only turn it over about 3-4 revolutions at
Wow. I was very impressed with this start. My 2020 cT does well starting in the cold but that really takes off.

My Gen 2 conversion starts much better than the Gen 1 however it still stumbles a lot until it warms up. It must be the new cylinder heads and/or the double cats and muffler valve back pressure.
Yup, water is a product of combustion in any ambient temp: Fuel + O2 → CO2 + H2O.
Great start and great video. What oil viscosity would you suggest for cold winter days below 0F temperatures? I just exchanged for Motul 7100 full syntetic 20w50 (what do you think about it?) but it is suggest to use until 15-20F. Thank you.
If the temps in your area were going to stay cold for an extended period (as in below freezing constantly) then running the 5w40 that the Ural Manual lists would be recommended. The problem in many areas is temperature fluctuation (in two days we will have a high of 45f and then two days after that a high of 22f), if this is the case in your area, I would stick with 20w50 and enjoy the ride.
Sweet! Thanks to your great videos I have been corrupted and taken the plunge. A new unit was not feasible at the moment, but I did find a slightly used 2019 GU (3400kms). I would like to know if you ship parts to Canada? Who knows, when this covid storm subsides I might even trek down to Ohio to thank you, and pick up a few items as well.

Let’s be honest for this money this is not a performance, it’s the same great Japan EFI system that will start not just Ural but a lot other bikes ;)
Good stuff, thanks. The video I've waited for is kick-starting it with a dead or dying battery... wouldn't the fuel injector require some minimum voltage?. Just an idea for the future.
Fuel pump would require adequate voltage to start even with with the kick start.
We found that our 2015 Patrol basically won’t kick start with a battery showing less than 11.5 volts, but then Any battery should show at least 12.45 volts minimum or it’s starting to get bad.!! 👍
These bikes are interesting! I’ve heard a lot of stuff about the older generations. What’s your opinion on the reliability of the newer models?

The quality has been much improved over the years. 2007 and newer are good bikes, but the 2022 model year efi has been the best so far.
Did you put thin oil in it, like 5W 30? I'm riding in Norway, on vacation, with 20W 40 and I wonder if it is important to change the oil.
It had 20w50 in it. Below is our response to a similar question:
