As someone who’s ridden motorcycles for a long time, I’d way rather go down on the uni than a bike. Bikes will often catch your leg under them, now you have 100’s of lbs weighing down onto your leg as you slide, and if you go go down in the right way, friction will basically have your 500 plus lb bike on top of your body grinding you into the concrete. That is not a risk on a uni. Its super convenient because you can trolley it in stores, they charge pretty quick and they can be store a lot easier.
Yes it is super dangerous. Mastering it becomes hands down one of the coolest feelings I've ever experienced. You feel like you have legit super powers. if you plan on getting into it get all the gear for protection. Expensive gear is cheaper then a serious injury. My Commander mini tops out at around 55mph but i have buddies who do 70+ on the ET max, its insane!

I feel like a boomer whenever I say that drivers are just on their phones and not paying proper attention these days, but that really is just it.
Heres the thing, people don’t just say motorcycles are dangerous because you need some skill to use them, (i imagine) people say they are dangerous because there are cars on the road. Also accidents happen theres not much protection on a motorcycle i know someone who’s in a wheelchair because he was hit by a pigeon. And fell off his bike crippling him. Ive been down this windy track in the uk and 2 times out of the 3 times i used it has a motorcyclist going to fast come off and died. You can blame cars for it and i agree but you are taking a risk. People use cars because despite the deaths, they are easy to use allot safer. And you dont have to think about safety as much unfortunately idiots are allowed to drive. Also cars can be shelter from weather. Id prefer we just invested in public transport. Cos these things are pretty shit for the environment and it be allot safer if everyone enjoyed taking a bus and it felt convinient.

Fyi to everyone, its not as simple as "just one pothole", most of these have 100+ mm of fully adjustable suspension and all but foot deep rim breaking pot holes are a non issue. Mine has a speed record of 130kph and nothing has ever even made me lose a little bit of control.

Australian here, and I’ve three of these. They are the most insane fun. Both on the street and on the trails. Obviously you have to wear safety gear. Suspension is only a few years old. Previously suspension was your knees! 2k -5k American though. Not cheap.
"I'd never ride one" Watches a dozen videos where people take huge spills over nothing "I would ride one through bumper to bumper traffic". Character development went hard.
I have been riding electric unicycles for 9 years now. First one in 2015 had max speed of 12 mph. Through the years I kept upgrading and now mine has max speed over 50 mph. It really is a great way to relieve stress and an awesome way to get around. I hope you try one out. You will get hooked. Hopefully you can join our group rides someday in NJ and NYC. Peace to you and glad I found your channel.
You have more control than a motorcycle or a bicycle, you can move slower than walking pace, you are as manoeuvrable as you are on foot, the newer EUC's have suspension so it eats up potholes, but rider skill is a factor. I have been riding EUCs for 5 years now, I have three wheels in two countries and I can count the number of falls I've had on one hand.
More people need to understand this. They see an EUC and their minds just go "DANGER, STUPID, GAY, UNSTABLE" etc. Its so sad so many people are closed minded and would rather come up with their own self fulfilling opinion, than actually learn how it works.
4:12 EUC's "cut out" if the battery voltage goes too low. Try to accelerate hard when your battery is low + hit a bump; you could dip the voltage of the battery enough for a cutout
Very surprised to see Charlie talk about EUC's considering how niche the sport is. I bought an InMotion V14 a few months ago and it is freaking awesome to ride on MTB trails. If anyone reading the comments is even slightly considering buying one, do it. It's easily one of the best purchases I've ever made.

Or are you just assuming that I didn’t have any gear on in an attempt to be a dick to someone you don’t know online Acting as though you just discovered fire. Or a you a self proclaimed professional that doesn’t act professional and makes assumptions based on a few words thinking it’s something? Are you saying that as long as someone has a back protector on that there’s no way they could possibly end up paralyzed, if that’s what you’re saying, I beg to differ. Or would my facts about the matter not be taken into account? It’s so funny how someone can the obvious yet still seemingly give themselves a path on the back like they just found the cure for cancer. Literally a “I broke my back,” “you should’ve had on gear,” “I did,” “….” 😂😂😂😂
@@BlackBeavis Uh okay. It just seemed like you were a random commenter doing the usual youtube over exagerration. Ie the usual youtuber commenter doing the usual "bruh imagine I could never one bad driver its over" This post in no way elaborates into it actually being a serious comment. You certainly elaborated now though huh. Its obviously a less likely outcome with some protective gear on. That's just basic logic. Obviously. Things always come with a risk. Everything does. My apologies for adding a twist of humour while offering some helpful advice with good intent. I appreciate the reminder to not engage in youtube comments. Have a lovely day.
@ I can see that, I can also see “literally,” and then a brief explanation of something that happened, which, when read in context to what was being said in the video would insinuate it not being something just said online for shits and giggles. But that’s only looking at it from my point of view and not someone else’s who doesn’t think similar to how I do. I saw it the same way you did and simply matched the energy that was being given. I usually take comments serious at face value, but I can understand someone who doesn’t and would make the assumption you made, etc. etc. That’s basic logic that it seemed like you weren’t aware people knew judging from how you were talking about safety gear like it was some new invention but after having elaborated on why you did that I get, the joke, or humor of it all, if you will. To be fair most of the “ helpful advice” stemming from good intent usually doesn’t come off as sarcastic out the gate, but then again that’s on me for me wording. I wouldn’t say stop engaging in UA-cam comments, do you. If this is the humor that brings you joy by all means spread it around. But if OP means something one way and you see it as meaning, something else that room for interpretation can lead to instances such as this, so it’s just something to be aware of moving forward not necessarily a reason to stop commenting altogether. Where is the fun in that? I will say I enjoy the type of banter that stems from online comments, especially when there’s a misunderstanding that I see is the issue from the outside looking in yet the two arguing can’t see. Usually gets pretty entertaining before it dies out. I feel like I’m talking a bit much now though. 😂😂
@BlackBeavis I'd place the onus back on you there for such a vague cryptic comment leaving it so open to interpretation. It seems you do understand the situation now however you still fall short of seeing that your vagueness left it so open. Wish you all the best
I agree with gabinator. Because they go faster, there’s a higher headroom for not cutting out. One wheels have a nose dive issue if you over power them too much which breaks collar bones
I've ridden both, and EUC is so much safer, even at higher speeds. To be fair, most of that is because we wear proper gear and don't pretend we're skaters.
People suffer worse driving their cars. Be careful and be in bike lanes and residential streets whenever possible. Also make sure you have motorcycle gloves with palm sliders, those probably would have saved your wrists. Fractured wrists and ankles are the most common motorcycle injuries. I have an Apollo Pro and I love it. I’m usually only going 25 mph though
I need to get gloves and wrist guards, I only got knees, elbows and the full face for my Uni. I hope you rest up well dude fr! (I swear this isn't sarcastic but) Thank you for reminding me of the dangers and how real they are. And to buy wristguards and gloves honestly

The timing on this is crazy, I was out in SF last night just exploring around North Beach and a whole ass army of electric unicyclers and skateboarders flew by. Seemed fun and harmless in that instance tbh
I've been riding EUC a couple of years now. It's getting kind of funny how everyone always thinks a little rock will wipe you out, but I ride MTB trails regularly. They have come a long way lately with the power and suspension. I feel much safer commuting on one compared to a bike, because the speed and agility has helped me avoid situations that would have wrecked me before. Good gear also does a lot to minimise injury if something does go wrong. But most of all, they just feel amazing to ride. Nothing else will get you feeling connected to the machine on this level. Give it a go if you're even slightly curious. It's easier than it looks.
When the Warp Star won't do the job Kirby can always trust his Wheelie Bike. But when everybody chooses the same Air Ride Machine its gonna be a bad time racing.
I ride mine on public roads all the time. Mine only goes 40 mph so I gotta pull off a lot if the speed limit is too high. It's great for commuting, offroading, farm work. Super fun. Nothing like it. They have nice suspension too

happy to see a big youtuber cover euc's haha, not what I was expecting today they are actually very easy to ride, well just think of it like the first time you've tried to ride a bike, then became better over time I personally started to feel confident to hit the public streets at 400km on odometer, so yeah takes some time but theyre fun and have a small footprint in your place I think its one of the cheapest hobbies because they are low maintenance and don't need upgrades(well that is until you start owning more than 1 wheel)
i live in NYC and my brother got one of this, so i can first hand tell you that the cops do not give two fucks if you ride one unless you are on the side walk or going past red lights. even on the highways the cops wont do anything because at the end of the day there is no way anyone is going to catch you riding this unless its a motorcycle and even then you can cut corners far better.
I remember seeing the older (and much slower) versions of these years ago, and they struck me as perfect little get-arounds for city blocks or small communities. Seeing them going this fast, however, terrifies me. You know some crazy people would try to take these things on the highway.

My Commander mini tops out at around 55mph but i have buddies who do 70+ on the ET max, its insane!
imagine getting shot in a drive by by some guys on these 😭
“So who shot Bill?”
“Some unicycle gangsters.”
“Those things clowns ride at the circus while juggling balls?”
“No, an EV unicycle for hipsters.”
“Good grief. 😭”
They should put these in GTA 6

As a EUC rider, you are absolutely right. Actual unicycles take much more skill.

Been riding a motorcycle between march 6th 2022 to June 6 2023 and I’ve been in at least 40 near deaths, most drivers today are cold blooded
I started riding my Vespa last year and I've had my fair share of close calls too. Watched an Uber in front of me at a red light scrolling on Instagram, then continue to do so while driving.
Worse tons taking up being insurance fraud scammers!
3:51 rider error. Even on 2 wheels, you wanna hit ruts like that, railroad tracks, etc., at a 90 degree angle so your wheel(s) don't get caught in it.
Came to the comments mention exactly this ☝️ made this mistake once as a teen on a bicycle and absolutely ate it, learned real quick. I now see this information listed in road laws for bicycles and motorcycles in my area
The physics work better than you imagine. Hitting a pothole/rock is fine as long as knees are bent and attentive to terrain
U just shown so much light on to this hobbie man it's actually the best feeling to ride one i hope everyone can experience the thrill of riding one one day safety first tho you gotta wear that gear.
They are actually very solid machines. Super fun.
@1:30 That race course is set up to keep the participants alive; Theres no sections long enough to get to that top speed.
5:20 I got an electric scooter I’ve crashed at like 40-50mph, scratches a bit but still works fine. Thing is like solid iron
I used to ride this a few months ago on NH-16 to work, at first it was scary but eventually it was just everyday thing
Fyi to everyone, its not as simple as "just one pothole", most of these have 100+ mm of fully adjustable suspension and all but foot deep rim breaking pot holes are a non issue. Mine has a speed record of 130kph and nothing has ever even made me lose a little bit of control.
I dare ya to ride it in the snow
@@greenbassboosts8872 you could just look at all the vids on youtube of people riding in snow
@@greenbassboosts8872 Not everyone has snow where they live, and even if they do, riding a unicycle in winter is a pretty doable thing if the snow is dense and solid enough
@@greenbassboosts8872 For 6 years I've been riding in the Swedish snow to work every winter. Never had a bad fall that hurt me or the machine. I do stop leaning like crazy while turning, and certainly drive much slower than on dry pavement or gravel. The snow is never a problem, hidden ice though... So during winter time I pretty much always expect ice hidden under the snow and thusly don't really slip much(even when slipping on ice the wheel will spin like crazy to stabilize and usually manages if you as a rider keep your balance during the correcting.

ETMax Rider here: 55mph is more accurate. You're really pushing against the wind and need a perfect straightaway. It is quite cozy at 40mph however.
Suspension wheels soak up potholes.
And yeah... This is the most suitable daily driver vehicle I've ever owned.
idk man, where i live some potholes are a half a foot deep or more. road so cracked and bumpy the shaking of the vehicle is louder than your radio. even the main roads are pretty bad in some areas.
@TwoGunToast That's fair as heck! Honestly with the season changing so does my ride style. Now there are fallen branches & construction to consider. I guess I dropped a generic comment without articulating reasons to NOT go all in with faster riding.
Please do stay in tune with your environment and be prepared for changes.

100% safer then motorcycle. And everyone on the street can see you compared to being so low on a motorbike

Its so sad so many people are closed minded and would rather come up with their own self fulfilling opinion, than actually learn how it works.
i take it as pride that i never crashed.

I have owned ~10, now have a stable of 4. Once you go EUC, you will never want to go back to anything else.
It is freaking mind blowing that these exist and more people don’t ride them! I love mine. So glad Charlie is bringing people into the sport

@@BlackBeavis Or you just have a simple back protector like motorcyclists use.
Its this new fangled technology they call safety equipment.
Its made for many applications to protect the squishyness of the human being at unnatural velocity.
@ oh you saw the video of my accident? Were you there?
Literally a “I broke my back,” “you should’ve had on gear,” “I did,” “….”
😂😂😂😂
@@BlackBeavis Uh okay. It just seemed like you were a random commenter doing the usual youtube over exagerration.
Ie the usual youtuber commenter doing the usual "bruh imagine I could never one bad driver its over"
This post in no way elaborates into it actually being a serious comment.
Wish you all the best
i cannot beleive they somehow made a more dangerous one wheel
Actually these are a lot safer
I agree with gabinator. Because they go faster, there’s a higher headroom for not cutting out. One wheels have a nose dive issue if you over power them too much which breaks collar bones
I've ridden both, and EUC is so much safer, even at higher speeds. To be fair, most of that is because we wear proper gear and don't pretend we're skaters.
@@JaliousArtonewheels are still safe if you aren't trying to push past what they're capable of, I've been riding them for 6 years

I just fractured my wrist in 2 spots a week ago on my hyper scooter. Opened my eyes to how dangerous it really is. Easy to forget the danger.
Thats why we wear wrist braces.
You're soft.

I can’t believe I got into these before they were popular. It’s so weird to see Charlie reviewing something so niche that I actually have a connection to lol.
Very well said I just got a Commander Mini last December and I couldn't agree more
that's a great comment
I will definitely try one someday
It honestly does look fun. Serious question how much stress does it put on your knees cuz one of mine is pretty torn up literally lol

they are actually very easy to ride, well just think of it like the first time you've tried to ride a bike, then became better over time
I personally started to feel confident to hit the public streets at 400km on odometer, so yeah takes some time but theyre fun and have a small footprint in your place
I think its one of the cheapest hobbies because they are low maintenance and don't need upgrades(well that is until you start owning more than 1 wheel)
they are also very resistant for crashes, I have seen many people cutout at high speed and their wheel was still perfectly rideable
i live in NYC and my brother got one of this, so i can first hand tell you that the cops do not give two fucks if you ride one unless you are on the side walk or going past red lights. even on the highways the cops wont do anything because at the end of the day there is no way anyone is going to catch you riding this unless its a motorcycle and even then you can cut corners far better.
70 on a motorcycle is hard core lol 70 on a unicycle sounds nuts
I've done about 40 on a motorized bike and that's pretty sketchy too
I remember seeing the older (and much slower) versions of these years ago, and they struck me as perfect little get-arounds for city blocks or small communities. Seeing them going this fast, however, terrifies me. You know some crazy people would try to take these things on the highway.
Yep, three to be exact. State highway 125 in New Hampshire. They were all lit up with LED strings and we’re hauling at 1am on a mission. I was hoping they’d stop at my fire so I could ask questions and make some friends but by the time I ran out to the highway they were already cresting the hill where the shoulder ends.
