    Two things that can't be analyzed on film but that I've learned as an athlete are absolute gospel truth
    1) You perform how you train
    2) There are two things in physical sports that'll reveal who you really are; Fatigue and frustration. Boots wasn't tired here, so the issue seemed to be frustration. Unfortunately for him both tend to cause a severe breakdown in fundamentals.
    You can come into that ring or arena with the perfect plan but eventually you will run into that opponent who's not going to go along with your plans.

      @@bobbyCruiser Yes indeed. Frustration seemed to make him go from a boxer/puncher to more of like a street fighter who could box.
      I have a young homeboy like that. He's won a few amateur tournaments and he's just been smashing everyone. Super aggressive. Hella tough. Super human stamina. All the natural gifts and that allows him to cheat a bit. Every fight is like a street fight to him he just walks thru their best stuff and goes to work. I wish I could show footage on here🤣
      I know one day he's going to run into a fighter that's going to have a counter for everything he does in that ring. It's just a matter of time lol.

      @m.danielmills7091 I disagree...Boots never got into his fundamentals bag in that fight. He reminded me of Teo more than ever Sat. Both flashy fighters. But i figured Ennis was more fundamental. He simply wasn't busy enough in a workman-like fashiom for my taste. It felt like he just kept trying tricks all night rather than to use his advantages in systematically breaking his opponent down piece by piece. Even when he hurt the man w/ that backhand shovel to the body in the 10th, it was like Karen knew what he was thinking & wouldn't let him hurt him there again. The bol just never got in rhythm.

    Can’t lie. I was waiting on this one. The footwork issues for Boots was the most obvious thing when watching the fight live. All the switching stances without purpose left him squared up quite often. There was also a ton of cross stepping and simply walking in as shown on this breakdown. But as Gems pointed out, these things will only be taken advantage of by the right opponent and there aren’t too many out there that can. I think we all know who are on that short list.

    I think the thing nobody is talking about is how well prepared Boots opponent was. Nobody is giving that guy any credit. The first half of the fight the guy had a good strategy. Now he lost every round but he was doing things to give Boots some things to think about for the future.The 1 thing I've been concerned with when it comes to Boots is his ability to fight in close range and not get hit by big shots. This is the 1st fight I've seen Boots in where he had to come forward the whole fight and his opponent wasn't really that fazed by Boots power. Yes we all see Boots didn't cut the ring off as well as he coulda and he didn't use his jab well enough. Boots prolly will learn from this and get better very quickly. Boots was in great shape. He didn't sit down at all in between rounds, he didn't get tired at all so his fight preparation physically was on point. Those who say he isn't ready for Spence Jr are not seeing what I'm seeing tho. Spence don't fight moving around and going backwards at all. He's a come forward fighter. I don't think Spence style gives him an edge over Boots. Jaron still does everything better than Spence. Crawford would have a better chance vs Boots because he uses angles better than Spence, counterpunching as well also 1 punch power. Problem Crawford would have vs Boots is I think Boots would use his Jab length, speed and distance more than constantly coming forward especially after this learning experience from this past fight. Boots is a much bigger fighter. I still don't see anyone that has the combination of speed, size and power to deal with Boots in the near future. What we should do tho is stop comparing Boots to Roy Jones. Boots don't have the handspeed or great footwork like Roy. Jones was 1 of a kind

      @@Topdawg365 he hasn't had to, against Porter you saw it, and Khan, he's said he fights in accordance to the division and his opponents. Buds lateral movement is always there, its not about "moving loads" it's knowing where to space yourself and know to exploit specific tendencies, it's the Higher more technical IQ. Bud will be a nightmare for Ennis, especially seeing as his power and athleticism looked human and ennis has fundamental issues with how he shoots his jab, the athleticism was the thing he defo had over bud. But IF that starts to normalize (as it does with higher level fighters) there's not alot Ennis in particular will have for bud, Spence is more of a 50/50 fight, initially I thought the other way around but looking at ennis weaknesses and seeing that his footwork is a legit problem, you're not beating bud if you have flawed footwork . Yh Bozy knew what he was doing tryna fight spence 1st.

It's a style nothing more, it has strengths and weaknesses. Good rhythm fighters use it to maintain a preferable distance, and lull opponents into a sense of security in reading their patterns and then breaking that pattern to catch them off-guard. Analyzing the weak spots in a victory is a crucial activity. There are things a winner may do in a bout that aren't necessarily positive merely because they were done by the victor. It also honors your position that boxing skills have declined, in that even those who are collecting W's are not beyond criticism. I appreciate your insights as always.

    Good shit 🥊Gems! Let me ask you, do you believe some his struggle with the cut off is because he's switching stances too often to become proficient at closing the exit in at least one direction? If he truly has no dominant side, then he also hasn't mastered one side or the other. Thoughts?

    • @hazanko5875
      @hazanko5875 Рік тому +1

      I think you're certainly on to something. Feeling comfortable either stance may make him too ready to cross step coming forward. Yes, you could argue that he doesn't have a weaker side as he switches back and forth through the cross steps, but the point of worst balance and gathered feet are the important issue, not the stance you catch him in when he completes a step. Only tangentially related to your point but I do think there's a marked downside to boots boxing without having a "home stance" that he tries to maintain.

    • @BoxingGems
      @BoxingGems  Рік тому +5

      I was going to mention that in the vid but I decided not to because I don’t know for sure. But Boots is on record saying that he doesn’t even know when he switches. That might sound great to some people but it sounds terrible to me. Movements without purpose in boxing are typically mistakes/risky.

    • @TeeWord
      @TeeWord Рік тому

      @@hazanko5875 getting stuck cross stepping is certainly a stance switch function to. But more on my point is when you have a 'home' side (I like that) you tend to be more effective so you have a go to tool that is reliable. I agree with your point as well.

    to put it simply from what i saw...ennis failed to recognised and put to memory karen's tendencies and habits as he pivots out of or exits the pocket...he couldn't time karen as he exited the pocket, timing ur opponent is a lot easier when you're constantly feinting and drawing out a reaction and pumping out that jab...villa did a pretty good job of wearing down ellis and timing him with the left hook when he would try to get off the ropes, pivot to his left side, tryto evade incoming shots from villa by ducking underneath them then proceed to bring his head back up as he exits the pocket off the ropes in which he would drop his right hand and bam villa caught him with the left as he was exiting. but tbf i haven't seen footwork as good as karen's in a while..that shit was beautiful to watch

    How hes exposed. When he still hasn't lost a round in a fight. As boxers and real analyst understand . That it's very hard to ko a fighter who's sole purpose is to survive with no intention of actually winning.

    • @nativeamericancowboy5028
      @nativeamericancowboy5028 Рік тому

      There's another way to look at this.
      Surviving a fight is not losing a fight. You can't say that a survivor isn't winning, because if he walks away with his health intact, then he has in fact won. Even If his belt is taken, it doesn't matter because a neutral party is controlling where the belt goes. It's out of his control either way.
      If you don't believe me, look at war.
      The country who doesn't concede will always be a winner. The Taliban defeated the US government by simply refusing to be knocked out. They did nothing spectacular.
      They simply refused to fold up.
      So they won.
