Pukana. The tongue, bulging eyes, chin jutting, head movements are all aggressive facial expressions that aim to intimidate the enemy. Men stick out the tongue, women push out the chin. The cry is to inspire courage and call on the gods. Australia and New Zealand indigenous squaring off like two dogs. Beautiful sight. In the burbs the Maori and Aboriginal dispense with this display and go straight to the battle. 😂 Tiki Taane - Tangaroa God of the Sea👍 Teeks- Te Ahi Kai Po, live at Auckland town hall. 👍 A song of grief about a battle between the British and the Maori in which all the Maori in the area were eradicated. Maori culture is beautiful in all its expressions.
At the end they performed the Māori greeting of sharing breath by pressing their forehead together. Great video and reaction. I am Australian and felt very emotional watching this.
In Australia today, there are still about 200 indigenous languages. Many aboriginal kids today are starting to learn their ancient languages again while rediscovering their culture. During their war dance you saw traditional weapons and the pipe you heard was the unique sound of the didgeridoo. Australia and New Zealand have a very special relationship. They are our cousins across the ditch, and we all know the Haka very well. It’s great to see the respect both teams showed each other before the game.
Traditional? those spears are curtain rod straight.. straight out of Bunnings.. I've made a spear "traditional style" no way any footballer is doing that to their feet.. No spear is made that straight..
@@Niknteen1spears are easy to make, I make them off a special tree. I don’t know exactly the name, but it’s pretty thin and has a bamboo type feeling or something like that.
See the haka for fallen soldiers returned to NZ. That still makes me cry. It's very emotional 😢 Australia indigenous is 2000 years plus old and NZ 1000 years plus. N Z ABs have been performing the Haka for 100 years before a rugby match, whether privately or in front of a crowd. For the Australian Aboriginal, this was the first time performing their challenge. So proud of our brothers in Australia. It's so good to see Australia display their culture in a World forum.

Also something that hasn't been mentioned yet, when the Aboriginal team were dancing and you mentioned the man that was crawling, they will imitate different animals or 'totems' of their particular 'tribe' , Goanna, Emu, Kangaroo etc.

Great reaction! Glad you’re curious about the culture. The side with the guy crawling on the ground is the Indigenous. They WALKED from East Africa over the land bridge that existed at the time between mainland Asia and Australia. The other side is the Maori, the first people of nNew Zealand, arriving 800 years ago from Samoa, whose people originated in Taiwan. They are called Maori, with direct relation to the people, language, and customs of the Polynesian Triangle. (Hawaii, Samoa, Tonga, Tahiti, and Rapa Nui, or Easter Island off the coast of South America.) Like Africa, the Pacific islands were mostly invaded and the cultures were mostly suppressed. In time, the natives began to embrace rugby. Suppression faded away first in New Zealand, and they adopted native “haka”, their traditional challenge, or posture dance, complete with the protruding tongue. Whenever a stranger arrives on your island, it could be an innocent trade visit, or possibly an invasion. So you assemble your village to challenge the newcomers. Australia was suppressed until fairly recently, so they have been examples their Aboriginal culture for only the past 50 years. Whatever they have evolved in isolation for 40,000 years. Different cultures coming together. New Zealand national team All Blacks has been competing internationally for 125 years, and dancing haka the whole time. The have a 75% winning record, won three of the nine World Cups. The Black Ferns, the New Zealand national women’s team, has an 87% winning record and has won six of the nine World Cups. Even opposing fans look forward to these, because if you’re playing the Black Ferns, or the All Blacks, your team is probably playing in a championship game.

So, some history "Facts, but it might be fiction", cause this is what I've learnt from my old folks. We all knew that the Mãori people, had their traditional war cries, which they used to install fear in their enemies, before the battle started. This carried over to the sports fields, into cricket, rugby and some other field related sports.... like "Soccer" at the time, now called Football, cause handball is a faul.. LOL... JK. Anyway, the "War Cry" as we know it was intended to inject your opponents with fear of the unknown. Sometimes this works, and others it don;t. So a hence, it became more of a tradition than a ploy of unsettling the opponents. Sometime,s it still do(unsettle the opponent team). I'm sorry, I've written a whole SA here, without getting to the point. The Islander war cries are traditional, and the other teams that tried to replicate it,.... it was a shame. It turned out that facing the war cry and losing, was a better rep, than facing the war cry, being all big headed, and then losing anyway.
