"How far can you throw a stone?" "Don't know; never missed yet..." Fascinating for me is that within each Flash incarnation, we see a man developing techniques to handle the eerie consequences of accelerated speed-both physical AND psychological. For each advance there is a new set of adjustments to assimilate. The character grows into his own ever-increasing abilities, constantly evolving, learning about himself. Ironically, even Flashes' colors are STOP and CAUTION, never just an abandoned GO!
I forgot about this, I remember watching this over and over when I was a teenager. I revisited it because I saw a clip off the flash defusing lex and brainiac and I instantly thought of this. 16 years later it's still one of my favorites. This aged like fine wine.
This song just amazing. It gives a whole new look to The Flash, showing that super-speed isn't the only thing that the flash has. Viewing the world on an entirely different sight that no other person, and only a very few superheroes can see in. Just the emotions in this song could be a major part of a movie if they planned to make one.
Every few months for close to a decade, I've come back to watch this AMV. I only just noticed the view count is now over 1.5 million... that is awesome. :) Time keeps dragging on... We'll see in another decade.
I mean... It doesn't though... The song implies that Barry feels lonely and isolated by his speed, that he wishes he could go back and live a normal life. That is not how any Flash views their speed. It's a gift to them, they love being The Flash. It also tries to imply that they can't turn off their speed perception, and that life goes by slow as hell, which is also incorrect. I like the song, but it fundamentally misunderstand Barry Allen as a character. He's not all forlorn and melancholy, he enjoys the speed. He likes helping people.
Yes. We owe an IMMEASURABLE gratitude to Carmine Infantino for paving the way for ALL the modern, streamlined depictions of every comic book hero (and villain!) to follow. Carmine (literally) single-handedly launched The Silver Age Comics with Barry Allen-with emphasis firmly placed on sci-fi speculation: "what would it be like to be the fastest man alive?" Carmine's painstaking drawing style, with multiple Flash's tracking across a single board, created a novel motif that has yet to be matched!
For too many years have come back to this video....too many years, and it keeps hitting me every time. The one thing, this is called the Ballad of Barry Allen, and this entire video is about Wally West XD
Since 2006, when this tribute first came out, and I heard this song for the first time 16 years ago, I’ve waited for a Flash movie to come out on the big screens. Today, I get to do that. Thank you for this tribute and thank you Jim for a great song to the greatest superhero who has made the greatest sacrifices for humanity and the entire multiverse.
The flash IS the most amazing super hero. The song fits him perfectly. All in all I think this is going to be one of those videos i will treasure for many years to come =)
I love the clip where Barry casually changes costumes in front of Batman ar superspeed. AKA- Wally just strip changed in front of his teammate/ best friends adopted dad. It must feel like he's wearing Nothing at all Nothing at all Nothing at all
Flash is by far the most underestimated, under appreciated league member. They’re lucky he’s too busy goofing around to really explore what he can do. When he stops messing around and digs deep, he took down the amalgamation of Superman’s two worst enemies
My favorite super hero. So many personalities in one character. His human blessing is that he gets very hungry and tired and that puts him back on ordinary speed.
I'll say it again. This song is perfect for The Flash. I love it when musicians can capture the essence and tragedy of heros, this one portrays the flash admirably and the person who made the amv picked very fitting scenes. =)
They're aren't a lot of clips of Barry Allen cause his character hasn't been used that much, but they're using him a lot more now. We've seen him in animated movies, in the show Young Justice, got his shown The Flash, and is going to be a founding member in the new Justice league movie that's coming out.
I always thought the song should be named Ballad of the Scarlet Speedster. That way the song can be applied to any of them. Jay and Barry in the Comics, Wally in the Justice League animated series etc... Truth is I always felt this was really more from Wally's perspective as he used the "Cosmic Pause Button" trick in the comics long before they ever put it in the TV shows or whatever. (Flash #30 1987-2009 was the first time)
Golddragon71 The guy who made this song's uncle(or some relative) was actually the one who created the character of Barry Allen. So that's why the song specifically refers to him.
This is still the best AMV I have ever seen by a long shot. Amazing compilation, and truly the reason flash is my favorite DC hero. I was 10 when I first saw this, I’m 23 now and I still draw a visceral, emotional response from this.
This been my favorite song since I first heard it as a freshmen in high school. At the time I fell deeply in love with the love of my life but she fell in love with my best friend.... time keeps dragging on.
i was 5 or 4 when i first heard of this song and i still remember this and this might be the most nostalgic thing that has happened to me so far in my life
I can't begin explaining how much I love this video. Found it about a week ago, and I must have watched it about a hundred times! Thank you for making my life more awesome :D
The flash is undisputedly the funniest and most lighthearted hero in existence( to me that is). Always able to change the mood and just have a good time even in the most serious of situations.
@oneperson2person i dont remember what the episode name was but it was the one where brainiac and luthor fuze together. its like a 2 or three parter, but as you saw, the fight wasn't for very long
well, it would only be for barry since barry is the only person that "How I wish I'd never gone into my lab Experiment that night before lightning flashed Around me" happened to. Wally was visiting barry's lab not his own and bart is barry's grandkid so he was born a speedster. jay inhaled "hard water" so it wasn't him myles burrus it is wally west in the video, barry had died in the 80's and has only recently been brought back.
For everyone who doesn't know, the song is based around the Flash's worst fear. His power isn't super speed, it's control over time. He can slow time town temporarily and just walk. But with his time like that, walking is super speed to everyone else. His worst fear is that he'd be stuck in that state, time slowed down hundreds of thousands of times, forced to wait multiple hours for some one to finish a sentence.
I thought his power was straight Superspeed, but in all of its forms, including Quickened Perception. His speed does transcend time (because Comics) which is why he can run so fast he can break the time barrier. Most of the time it's the Reverse Flash who manipulates Time, in one instance their power is Making himself faster while making The Flash slower, so it just ends up looking like he's outpacing the Flash.
The older I get the more I appreciate growing up with flash as one of my favorite superheroes. I always felt that while being a speedster is amazing it could be extremely lonely. I've always suffered from loneliness and used various forms of art to cope but the flash always stands out in my mind. Barry Allen in the animated series always managed to show such a level of humanity and kindness towards everyone around him that I was just overwhelmed as a kid. Thank you for creating this video and introducing me to this song. These clips brought back alot of happy memories.
This is what having ADD feels like, and it's like Brainiac is the stand-in for the disorder and we get to watch Barry Allen kick the snot out of it. So cathartic.
Errrrr......Yes they do. Wally I especially; he's LITERALLY connected to the speed force and can't be unconnected. Bart had to live in a reality engine until his metabolism could be slowed down via a race because it moved too fast and he would have died without it. They don't turn it 'on and off' when they get their powers, it is ALWAYS ON. Pretty much every speedster in DC is connected to the Speed Force, but it's not like they can just sever it when they want to.
@*:・゚See you, Space Cowboy。 Ignoring an admittedly cool scene in the otherwise execrable 'X-Men: Apocalypse,' Pietro's powers don't work that way. He only gets an enhanced time sense while actually *moving* at super-speed, to keep up with what he's doing. He doesn't actually get time-dilation effects while standing still.
@*:・゚See you, Space Cowboy。 Well, having in count that Since Jay garrick to Bart allen are a lot, but a lot faster than the speed of light, and thousand of times faster than Pietro, they deserved more this song than Quicksilver.
ya, most people just think you can run fast with it, but if you have the flash version of super speed, where you can do anything like a million times faster than anyone, thats the awsome kind of super speed. its one of the most practical and versitle super powers there is. being able to dodge practically anything, create tornado with your hands, fase through stuff ect. and that why the flash can take on guys you would think are WAY more powful than him, like superman.
John I mean he can slow down to normal speed, but running across the ocean, much less any distance longer than that must take forever to him. I know Wally West particularly had a hard time separating perception speed from running speed.
Poor Barry.. for all the downsides to the league all their greatest battles in the future. Involve his death... Still. The Flash is one of the top 5... but we know what's gonna happen to him. So, we wait for time to catch up to him. Run Barry :).
The flash is my baby. My main man. I'm on a track team. I dusted every kid in my grade. Literally! When you can shoot lightning, vibrate through objects, and go into alternate dimensions, you know your a boss. Even though Impulse is faster then flash though.
That's because they're hasn't been use of Barry Allen's character, but that going to change as DC will present his character more. Take for instance the new show they came out for The Flash, and Barry Allen will appear in the new justice league movie.
Honestly I was always of the impression that Wally is cheerful as a coping mechanism. And it isn't like Barry Allen is actually all that outwardly angsty either. Most Superheros have more than one face to them. Why people assume that people who hide behind masks aren't hiding in more ways than one I'll never understand.
@@noonenowhere877 Wally was introduced to Speed Force when he was much younger; he had a chance to grow into it, so it was more like his choice. Barry Allen was already a fully-formed adult with a full life (job, house, marriage); this shift to the Speed Force was a huge shock to him.
This is why Flash needs a big budget movie. There are just so many fun little tricks and stunts that can be done with super speed that beg to be seen on a big screen. :)
with the few instances that they used footage of Wally West Flash instead of Barry Allen whom the song is about, this was a fitting tribute to the character.
You forgot the fact that as you approach the speed of light your mass approaches infinity. Infinite mass punch for the win. (Thank you Einstein for making the Flash so amazing.)
at the time of making this video there wasn't any barry allen footage, so unless i used a crapload of super friends clips this video wouldn't have existed.
i thought kid flash in the teen titans was bart allen. not for any canon reason, but just because teen titans aired at the same time as Justice league/Justice league unlimited and they weren't allowed to use any of the same characters in each others shows. Plus i didn't think wally could phase through walls but kid flash can on the teen titans could without explosions
This song is about Barry Allen, it has his name in the title, Jim's Big Ego specifically said its about him, his origins is included in the lyrics, as well as his emotional state of how he perceived the world. Not saying it can't be used in any other videos for parody or music video purposes or if it fits well with another well-know speedster, you just can't change the story or the character it was meant for. At this point I don't care if it aggravates you anymore, so suck it crazybird.
ive only commented on this athousand times by now, this video is almost 10 years old. when it was made there was no animated bits with barry. learn to read a time stamp
+tehbasil I'm sorry this comment wasn't aimed at you, I know all about the fact that clips of Barry Allen were either scarce or nonexistent since most of the animated shows used Wally West or a mix of them both. This was aimed at an irritating commenter who's been bothering me lately, his name is at the end of the comment. I apologize again for the mix up and should've included that it wasn't aimed at the creator of the video.
ah sorry there doctor (good choice on which one by the way) i'm terrible at noticing these comments. im terrible at following the youtube threads on this end.
+The Doctor Congratulations on finding the edit button! Because if that was what you said in the first place then it would have been a simple matter of a misunderstanding that would have been easily solved a long time ago. Anyway I’m happy you learned something from all this.
+CrazyBirdyBird I touched no edit button, I've used the same argument over and over. You've just been to slow or too thick headed to understand until just now.
+CrazyBirdyBird +CrazyBirdyBird in this case yes, the artist wrote this song specifically for DC's Barry Allen (The Flash). You can use it as background music in other videos for parody purposes, but you can't change the story or who the person it was meant for.
+The Doctor Well that is an unfair and irrational expectation. It’s more likely that Barry Allen fans are just being snobs. After all I can’t imagine Barry himself would have a problem with other speedsters using his song.
I have request tehbasil can you perhaps please use this song with the CW footage of The Flash TV series ? I honestly wanted to do it myself but sly my laptop lacks the power and space to do so would you please consider making this request a reality ? I'm quite sure it would draw more viewers in .
Silver Age Flash {Showcase #4 (Oct. 1956)}: literally entered a new dimension in comic book history. He was the first (appropriately) modern superhero, paving the path for so many updated and novel characters-both protagonistic AND villainous incarnations. Barry Allen will always be the first and best on either end of the spectrum, the matter is already sealed, written on the wind of his legacy.
Wally West is this Flash. People know of Barry Allen but what they don't know is the Flash we all grew up with and love. In the Justice League Cartoons for example is Wally West. He is the Flash after Barry Allen and was Flash for 20 years. When Barry Allen died.
You can always tell by the lightning bolt across the waist. If its a straight lightning bolt its Barry if its a jagged lightning bolt that looks like an M its Wally. Barry usually doesn't have the whites over his eyes. That is a Wally West thing. Wally's eyes are green, Barry's are blue. Just things to look out for. Most of the time Barrys outfit is like a tomato red and Wallys is a crimson color.
This really brings my childhood back. I was 10 years old

LEAVE BARRY ALONEE!!! xD
This song is really sad to be honest. Doesn't fit wally's cheerful character. Even though the song isn't about him to begin with
That's because they're hasn't been use of Barry Allen's character, but that going to change as DC will present his character more.
Will never forget this video.
anyone here in 2022?
Anyone 2021
Wally was one of my favorite characters in Teen Titans
with the few instances that they used footage of Wally West Flash instead of Barry Allen whom the song is about, this was a fitting tribute to the character.
This is hilarious when you speed it up.
It also fits the music and the video much better
Anyone in 2021?
Here
You forgot the fact that as you approach the speed of light your mass approaches infinity. Infinite mass punch for the win. (Thank you Einstein for making the Flash so amazing.)
I never get bored with this song, musta listen to it over 100 times.
Dude the song is called the ballad of Barry Allen but you keep on using Wally west
at the time of making this video there wasn't any barry allen footage, so unless i used a crapload of super friends clips this video wouldn't have existed.
No the song is called Seems So Slow, right.
myles burrus no it's called "Ballad Of Barry Allen"
i thought kid flash in the teen titans was bart allen. not for any canon reason, but just because teen titans aired at the same time as Justice league/Justice league unlimited and they weren't allowed to use any of the same characters in each others shows. Plus i didn't think wally could phase through walls but kid flash can on the teen titans could without explosions
Mr.Minecraft Technically the song is called Seems So Slow, but whatever.
You've just been to slow or too thick headed to understand until just now.
this song brings me back man,
Why does this song fit my life
Why does everyone get so peeved when they use the ballad for Wally West? Are Barry Allen fans just paranoid, or am I missing something?
The song is called Ballad of Barry Allen, so I think that has something to do with it.
we can all just agree that the flash (wally or barry) is awesome
+The Doctor So a song can only be used for the person/character that they were made for? Don’t you think that’s a little absurd?
I second this request.
Me too. All apposed?
yay people agree with me ^_^
Lol
Richard Denton thats 4 yes's and 0 no's....anyone else?
Can't. Stop. Watching. This. Video. Overload. Of. Awesomeness. Help!
Still the best flash amv
Silver Age Flash {Showcase #4 (Oct. 1956)}: literally entered a new dimension in comic book history. He was the first (appropriately) modern superhero, paving the path for so many updated and novel characters-both protagonistic AND villainous incarnations. Barry Allen will always be the first and best on either end of the spectrum, the matter is already sealed, written on the wind of his legacy.
The coolness Flash and batman is greater than the whole superhero universe's combined
I never thought that Flash was a particularly awesome hero, but, DAMN, you make him look more amazing than Superman...
Almost every Flash in this video is Wally West.
The whole video is about the flash who is wally west
