      I paid $600 for my 79 standard back in 1982 brand new, still love it. But I'd never pay $2-3K or more for a Les Paul today. Gibsons pricing is rediculous, and theres really nothing that special on an arist model that justifies the insane prices. They play a Les Paul and maybe changed the caps or a pickup or the tuners. Those parts are stock on a reproduction/copy, so it's not like those parts cost thousands more off the shelf. You could buy a used guitar and put those same parts in for thousands less.

    For that kind of money you could buy a real vintage guitar and have a better investment. This is 'baseball card' marketing. Print or manufacture a limited amount , put a high price on it and hype it and wait for a strike. Gibson tries to con you that this is as desirable as a vintage guitar, which they can no longer make money from.

    Easy way to fake a seam line would probably be to use a stiff metal ruler (or something with a very straight, but not sharp edge, you’re trying to dent the finish, not cut into it) and gently tap it with a mallet.

    • @pulaski1
      @pulaski1 3 роки тому +1

      The problem with that is that the guitar top is bellied. In order to do it it right you'd need a steel strip (ruler) that had been pressed to match the curve of the guitar top at the point that you want to put the line, then run a razor blade along the top using the steel as a guide. ..... Though I am not sure why Gibson couldn't just do a poor quality three-piece top with visible seam lines. Surely Gibson would be capable of shoddy workmanship - or is that only possible when it _isn't_ wanted?

    i cannot get along with a new looking silverburst. i just dont like the color combo whatsoever. but these aged greenish looking ones i totally dig. on a totally different note the pricing is astronomically insane. i am a huge Gibson fan, but cmon...10k right out the gate? hard pass.... this is why Fender is the "working mans" guitar. i personally own 1 single gibson guitar. would love another one. but the pricing just takes me forever to save up and i am not patient enough. i can get 2-3 custom shop fenders for this one adam jones les paul.and like i said im a big gibson fan but it almost never makes financial sense to me as im not an investor looking for a profit.

    I had an L6S in silverburst, and Adam saw it and wanted to buy it because it matched his Les Paul. He explained to me that they were originally silver that turned green over time. Anyway, he balked at my 700.00 price tag! That was a long time ago. Nobody had any dough back then.

    If i would spend this amount of money I would expect an exact replica of a 79 custom in colour, weight etc. and a more realistic aging. The whole Hardware looks brand new.
    Love Adam Jones and TOOL but this is a bit disappointing. Can‘t wait for your closer review.

    Very cool, looking forward to the continuation! I have a Les Paul Custom in a vintage silverburst finish that came from the custom shop in 2016. Was a limited run and you don't see them often. Mine doesn't have the volute so it was probably based on a different year.

    Guitar companies like Danelectro did those kinds of solid bursts on cheap guitars to cover crap wood and Formica back in the day. If I was spending that kind of money on a Lester, I would want a burst, or a finish that shows the grain.

    You're better off just getting an LP body and applying Silverburst to it yourself. I'll say it again, Epiphone should make a teardrop Silverburst LP Custom, they would sell like hot cakes and they wouldn't look like snot due to "aging". Btw, unaged silverburst is definitely one of the coolest finishes Gibson has ever done.
    Also hot take, but buying guitars already relic'd seems kinda pointless. Just play the damn thing yourself and relic it naturally. I can see how collectors may like it though.

    I found really cool Agile AL-3000 for sale yesterday at a local music store for $349. I have two AL 2000s, which I got pre-owned for $99 with case and $199 without case. I went on the Rondo Music web site and low and behold they have a Silver Burst LP clone for $549 but you have to order one. If your not a Cork Sniffer with money to burn check it out. These guitars are better than Epiphones and will give Gibsons a run for their money. IMHO.
