    What intolerant parents don't seem to get is, if your own child can't trust you with details about their life, why should the school trust you with them?

      As a related aside, an interesting study published recently confirmed what a lot of us suspected about self harm rates in kids, one of the so-called "justifications" for cracking down on their internet use. That the rates don't track with increased internet access, but rather with moral panics. The more parents limit kids' ability to go and do their own thing, or insist on monitoring their activities, either based on a "stranger danger" fear, or worries about "terrorists", the more the rates go up, the more freedom children are given, the rates come down.

      It's not about parents wanting trust. It's about parents wanting to enforce that no trans kid can be safe anywhere.

      Hence why I always tell my 5 year old and 2 year old they can talk to me about anything and that I will always love them, no matter what they tell me. I never trusted my dad to that level. He may have had gay friends, but he was a fairly close-minded person. I'm not gay, I was lucky enough to have been born a cisgender, heterosexual white male, but I can't imagine having a parent you couldn't trust to love you for what you are. You can't control WHAT you are, you can only control WHO you are and will be. These people claim to be Christian, but their sense of tolerance is as brittle as their understanding of the actual New Testament.

Problem is, while I am a leftist grumpy old guy, I’m also a neurodivergent, disabled hermit, and that would be *way* too much human interaction for me! 🥴 The pride flag in my front window will have to suffice.

    Those of us born between 1978 and 1982 are in a weird position where we're old enough to have heard what the ironically named "Silent Generation" had to say about the boomers and then young enough to have heard boomers say the exact same things about millennials, only for millennials to turn around and drop the same complaints about boomers that the boomers had about the silents, and then have the same complaints about zoomers as boomers had about millennials.
    Obviously, Generation X is the only truly unique generation. Okay, obviously not. People just never remember us. And, why would they?
    The point is that nothing really changes. People are people.

    • @thing_under_the_stairs
      @thing_under_the_stairs 7 місяців тому +9

      Isn't the whole point of being Gen X that nobody remembers us and nobody cares?

      @kimberlycasey5957 7 місяців тому

      I agree with a lot of what you said here, but I don't want it to seem like Gen X escaped generational bullying. I really think we had it worse.
      The prevailing narrative about younger generations now is that they are soft and entitled, something something avocado toast. When we were kids, the narrative was that we were criminals and Satanists, and they acted like we would murder them in their beds. But now it's like everyone forgot about it.

    • @MatthewTheWanderer
      @MatthewTheWanderer 7 місяців тому +4

      I was born in 1981 and I am NOT a part of Generation X! Never have been! My older brother (born in 1971) is Gen X and he always felt like he was from a different generation from me. I am a Millennial and ALWAYS have been. I graduated high school in the year 2000, after all.
      BUT, everything else you say, I agree with, because I DO remember all of that.

    I like a man who knows the stats of one of the Oriole's greats. And yeah, Cal was at third for a few seasons, but he couldn't hold a candle to Brooksy. Just like Brooks could never have compared to Cal.
    Uh, yeah, the rest of the video was really very good .........

    I actually do have a neighbor who genuinely believes Halloween is the Devil's birthday. He refuses to celebrate. Welcome to the Deep South aka Hell.

    I HAVE seen a change in kids from years past. It used to be, when you opened the door on Halloween, the kids would be in COSTUME and they'd say "Trick or Treat!" Now the only kids who come to my door are in UNIFORM (cheerleading and football uniforms are not costumes if you already have to wear them regularly anyway) - and instead of saying "Trick or Treat!" they simply hold out their bags, expectant and silent. That is just now how it's done, folks!!

    That would be excellent if we had more elderly people like the person Steve is playing in this skit. I feel like our country would be a lot better off rather than having elderly people like some of the ones I've seen; who get upset with me because my GF is from the Philippines. Then they have the nerve to ask me when am I going to get an "American" GF? The nerve of some people today.

    I really appreciated the juxtaposition of the typical old man rant with an enlightened old man rant. All of the bitchy grouchiness with none of the deplorable opinions. 😅
