A universally recognized sign for connecting is the ampersand. Milla & Partner use it as the pivotal symbol their new corporate design."This is the AND" was an installation highlighting the new corporate design. It payed homage to the neon bulb and the achievements of digital signal processing since the 1950s. And to Doug Engelbart and the groundbreaking visions of the Bell Laboratories. The ZM 1350 was an alphanumeric indicator tube (Varisymbol), which was attached like a Nixie tube (Nixie stands for: Numeric Indicator eXperimental No. 1). Although an ingenious development by Telefunken with swift circuit times, it succeeded on the market only briefly and was superseded by the LED. Whoever wants to operate it today will have to do their own hard- and software developing. For 20 display elements, 1725 construction units were processed with 3925 soldered connections, which again were controlled by nearly 5000 lines of software code.
