None of the specs indicate what type of battery is in the MXR3500. I want to get a battery tender, but need to know whether lithium, lead acid, etc. How do I find out??
Hi Don, just watched the Walbro video. It's great to see how you got started on you tube. I started "tinkering" about 8 yrs. and with your help as you were the first one I watched I've been able to make a few bucks and have a great time as well. My wife has health issues as well and after retiring I couldn't get a part time job either. When covid hit I had to stop servicing other people's machines but I still do my own and as you can see, I still enjoy your videos. Keep them coming and i hope your well.
That was an awesome video.
Nice idea. The sideways plug is for a 20 amp circuit, so people don't plug a higher amp draw item into a 15 amp plug.
Nice review. Those CO sensors are becoming very common on a lot of generators these days. I'm not a fan. If anything is going to fail and leave you without power when you need it most it is likely to be that CO sensor. Folks have reported that if the wind is blowing the wrong way it can blow exhaust inside the generator and cause the alarm to trigger and shut off the generator. Folks using generators on food trucks and sound enclosures have a terrible time with the CO sensor. And lastly, the sensor has a finite life. At some point it will light the little "end of life" indicator and then you are screwed. On some generators a new CO sensor module is $700. This is one "nanny feature" that I do not like. They need to make it easier to disable/bypass the sensor when it is not needed or has failed. One last tip, when using something that draws a lot of power instantaneously like a welder, it is best to turn the Low Idle feature off (sometimes called Eco Throttle).
Yep and there junk and needs to be bypass to
Lots of problems with them killing engine
Nice video, thanks. I use a propane, whole house generator and in more than 10 years have never had to service the fuel system. Very clean.
What a great generator. Thanks for showing us, Don.
That is a cool machine Dony. Very impressive!
Impressive inverter gen!
I have a Generac portable generator. I don't store it with fuel in the tank or carb. I sent an e-mail to Generac asking if a a conversion kit was available. I am also considering a whole house standby generator. We live in a hurricane prone area. It's cumbersome to have to wheel out the portable, set it up in a rain free shelter, fuel it and run it. Thanks for the video and the review.
good idea, I also would like a standby that runs on natural gas
Nice unit! I will be ordering one. Thanks!
Seems to be a great little unit for home and job
Nice, thanks for the review. I use a Maxpeedingrods 'Chinese Diesel Heater' for my work are and its great.
nice generator, most newer gasoline generators now come with a CO Detect system.
Very nice generator. I have the Firman of the same size (Not dual fuel unfortunately) but this unit has some real nice features! I had never heard of them before.
thank you for this review
Fantastic video. I have been looking at new generators as mine is quite old and needs replacing. I had not heard of Maxpeedingrods before watching your video. I really like that this generator has the electric start and is an inverter generator with good load capacity. Thank you Dony.
Before buying any of these off-brand generators it is a good idea to contact the company and see what replacement parts are available - if any. A lot of these Chinese units have no availability of any replacement or routine maintenance parts.
Good point. I have this exact model. It has one hour on the clock and the pull start has failed (don't know if it ever worked as only used electric start) Emailed the company and so far no reply. 🤷 @@eosjoe565
I purchased this generator. I'm very excited to have it on the road 😊
Hope you enjoy it!
Nice machine, Gas is a better option especially for those that will use in emergencies 😊
That hertz display is a nice feature.
Another plus to using propane is how clean it actually burns in the engine. It may amaze you how clean your oil looks when you change it.
The downside to propane is that unit:unit with gasoline propane has less energy in it. That is why the power output is down some in the generator.
Off topic a bit but propane makes a good heating and cutting fuel for your oxygen/fuel torches too. It has less carbon than Acetylene so it makes cleaner cuts. The downside is it's harder to light in a wind...but that's another topic.
Anyways,
Cheers from NB
I seen the video with you,Bre and Steve 👍🏻
Great tutorial. I get mine next week. Question, can I tap into my RV propane line and run straight to the Genset, not using the propane regulator/line that comes with the unit?
When do you have to ground the unit. You've got great video's.
Great video. A few months ago I bought a similar generator (similar features, different brand) for a friend for all the reasons you mention. Electric start because she doesn't have the upper body strength for a pull cord. Propane so there are not any fuel system issues after storage. A couple of things that you didn't mention: quiet, and low THD so it's okay for electronics. BTW, I would recommend using a battery tender because these generators typically sit unused for long periods.
I start mine every 30 days and run it for 20 mins.
Can you advise which amperage tender you got, and how you connect it to the MXR battery? I’m a novice in all of this, and the internet can be confusing. Thanks.
@@Inisfad I have had good success with the Battery Tender Junior (750 mA). Connect the red clamp to the +ve teminal on the battery, black clamp on the -ve terminal. Plug the unit into mains power, and you're done.
@@briantaylor9266 Thank you. I’m getting all confused regarding info if the battery is lithium, lead acid, etc., and the manual with Maxpeedingpro gives no info about the battery at all. Thanks for your info.
@@Inisfad I would bet my paycheck that the stock battery is sealed lead acid. Maybe @donyboy73 can confirm.
Now that is a great generator just wondering if the engine has a magneto that recharges the battery for the electric start system? 100% correct on using propane if possible because everybody stores their generators with normally full tanks of fuel and never run it for many years and the fuel has gone bad and gummed up the carb or just will not fire. !00% first start always with the propane.
yes battery charges itself when runnng
Very through. Thank you.
Great review, other than running the generator how do you keep the battery charged for long term storage
I wish they would include running on natural gas as well.
I have this machine for power emergencies. I can literally open a window and put it on the side counter. Fumes go right out the window and I can run an oven on it. I store it in a cupboard and have only ever used it on LPG. I am now going to invest in a actual standby Natural gas generator after having this one for 3 years.
I have done over 1000 hours on LPG and the carb is as clean as a whistle. I also have an LPG car and I have done over 140,000 miles and I still have the original exhaust. I love LPG!
Nice video. LPG is actually
Liquefied petroleum gas all propane is lpg but not all lpg is propane. However as someone who has tested high quality gas detectors I can tell you there's alot more gasses in propane then they let on.
Just bought the same generator, and it now also comes with remote start.
Only in Europe. No remote key fobs in the USA. I just bought it and it did not come with one. I contacted them and they said it is only for the european market. If you got one here in the USA you are lucky.
@@jmrdrgz Yes, I’m in the EU. But sadly this purchase has not been terribly lucky for me thus far. The battery failed, will not take a charge and I must now replace the battery. The distributor does not stock them, and the new battery must come from China. While the generator worked great on the first day I received it, when I tested it after I unpacked it, it has not worked since. Being duel fuel, I’ve only tried to start it with the recoil on propane, and have been unable to.
Good video Don, i like that the unit can run on dual fuel and is quiet. Any idea what they cost. Keep the videos coming, i enjoy every one.
$1059 in CA. $849 in the States
I put links in video description
The reason gas generates more watts than propane, Is gas produces more energy than propane. When using gas, It is highly recommended to use engineerd gas. It's all I use in all my power equipment, and never had any problems. Thanks Dony, for the video.
I just ordered one advertised with remote start. I see you didn’t get one though. It was the main reason I got this one. I hope it arrives with all the features the genmax does since I couldn’t find a genmax available anywhere.
I just use it with propane, never any issues that way!
I’m in the EU. There are slight differences (other than voltage, etc) that the EU model has. First, it’s rated at 3500/3200 for gasoline, and 3200/2900 for propane. There is also no CO warning on the machine. If you are running gasoline, there is a fuel tank gauge on the top by the fuel filler. I do have one question: I find that the knob to turn from gasoline to propane is really difficult to turn. I was wondering if you have any suggestions as to how to make it easier. Other than that, I love the machine. I live in a small cottage, and this generator will actually run my whole house: lights, TV, computer, freezer, fridge, etc.
One other comment. LP connections should be checked with a soap solution to check for leaks.
good idea
The instructions on the generator advise to disconnect the battery if you plan ‘long’ storage. I guess either long means maybe a month, or else, even though the battery comes with some kind of charge, it’s not fully charged. I went to start this today as our electricity is out. No electric start. Some posters here have advised that they have the battery on a trickle charge. My question, as I will need to do this: How do you connect the trickle charge to the battery connector, or must you connect it directly to battery terminals????
I just received this very same unit. What are we supposed to do with the ground lug? Do we need to ground it or not?
That cord end is a nema 5-20 it's a 20a 125volt cordend. The plug on the generator is a nema 5-20r same rating as the cordend but will also fit a 15a plug. You'll find then in every kitchen wired after about 2008
Where can u get a replacement battery for electronic starter?
Hi Dony:
I assume because it says it's an INVERTER generator that it should be safe to use on electronic devices (like a modern furnace). Did you see anywhere the harmonic distortion in the specs? I'd hate to take out my furnace when crunch time comes.
yes it's safer than a regular genny on electronics
@@donyboy73 I see from the specs it is 3% THD which is very good.
Thanks
@donyboy73. Is it possible for you to do a video on how to change the battery in this generator????? I need to change the battery in this generator, as the battery in it cannot be charged, but can’t figure out how to open the strap????
Hey @donyboy73 Do you think that this generator can be modified to work with natural gas? Thank you for continuously making great content.
i'm not sure
When it started your compressor did it have any trouble? I have a Honda 3000 watt inverter generator that won't start mine.
no problems whatsoever, it's better to have "eco mode' off when running tools that require more electricity though
Is this the same as the GenMax GM3500iAED?
it appears their is no carburettor drain on the unit ?
Does anyone know if the fuel cap is the same size and thread as the honda generators. Looking at a cap with a fuel line fitting.
Are replacement parts and a repair manual available ?
they are available directly from the company, I will contact them for further information
What is the price of that generator?
One very major flaw. There is no manual choke to set. If your battery dies and you have to pull start when it's cold, it will not start. I'm sure you could figure out the choke on the carb but if you're not mechanically minded you're SOL. I know, because I bought it.
Does your generator "Sputter" or "Pop" while in use? For a lack of better words, I'm getting some Stuttering going on.
Does it have remote start, I've seen a video of the same generator and it had remote start
yes
@donyboy73 nowhere in the link does it say remote start, it says 2 ways to start , push button and recoil, and when you showed what's in the box nowhere was a remote button start??
@@craig3818 watch entire video
Just received mine, no remote start, just recoil or push button
Who makes the Engine?
Its ohv "Honda" made in china by chineese. Perhaps lifan made engine
Just got my MRX 3500s. It will run for a few seconds and stop. The overload light comes on with nothing connected
I would call the company for tech support
At 1700 watts that compressor is close to limit for a house circuit even.
The Big Question=== WHERE'S IT MADE ? (nochinesecrap!!!)
You know where it's made.
We're pissing away our country one purchase at a time --- Just Wait
It says on the box, pay closer attention. CHINA.
@@Tommyr Golly Tommy ! -- You can read too -- Wow ! You're so smart !
@@jaygee999 EVERYTHING is made in China these days
Man the government is cracking down on fossil fuel. Any plans to go Solar and Batteries?
If the government is so stupid and cracking down, maybe it's high time to crack down on the government ???
LPG has lower btu rating than gasoline. So less powerful explosion in cylinder.
It definitely has some neat features, but the "MADE IN CHINA" label scares me a bit. Decades of experience have taught me that when it comes to generators, there's Honda, and there's everything else. BTW, the lower rating on LPG is due to gasoline having a higher energy density.
even some Honda generators are made in china now
@@donyboy73 That's a shame, considering the premium they charge for them.
be careful brother
generator electric is not always up to specs
a conditioner is suggested for anything you want to keep
a grinder or hand drill aint no biggie to burn up
the last time i used mine it cooked a couple systems in my fridge and its not a computerized one now no temp control and no humidity removal
but it still freezes but dont trust the fridge and it damn sure aint frost free anymore,....garage drink handler
all from one hickup when the generator surged when the fridge kicked on the first time
a voltage conditioner aint cheap , but neither are fridge/freezers
nice demo/review

I just bought a new unit and turned it on for the first time and the recoil rope came out. electric starter not working either. Piece of Crap
