Guys! I just got my H501SS and I’ve only flown 3 times around my house or I mean in my neighborhood. I’m already liking it a lot ! The 1080p camera on this beast is incredible! Comparing to others and how much more you have to pay, plus this Hubsan model is built to have some fun and take some very good quality video and photography:) Thanks ! Peace!
Yeah, very aware of the Tumble of Death (ToD), but it's the first time it's ever happened to me. It's a total miracle that I saved it over that tree! I have the S, and don't know what firmware I'm currently running, but I'm very worried about updating it. I feel like that's only asking for trouble.
hey Adolfo, how much do you know about the 501a 'board. Is there a mod to enable cellphone/wifi control via the app for the 501ss? I'm quite keen to try that to enable waypoints and circle me, with a gimbal attached.
What are things that never happen with a DJI Mavic Alex? Glad it happened to you first Ffanatic so now I know what to look for. I think I'll just keep mine in GPS and fly slow from now on. Thanks for posting. Awesome backpack but it's no fanny pack
Dang amazing timing for it to recover! Sadly this is the life of a hubsan owner as we have all seen the wobble or at least most of us but your got way out of hand. So far the only things that have pulled me out of the fire is for me to get on it quick with a little up thrust and a slight turn of the body and she seems to snap back out quick. Truly I don't even see you getting much warning before she tumbled.
I got SOOOOO lucky! Honestly, i was freaking out as I saw it struggling in the air. I wish I could call it skill, but I think the only thing I could think to do was hit the GPS switch, and give it some throttle. LUCKY!!!
Luck, skill truly a fine line. Sometimes an impulse move like that is what defines you, since you clearly did the right thing just by impulse. That isn't luck as much as it was you having some sense to at least try something to stop the madness. If you were brand new to the hobby I doubt luck would have gotten you out of this one. Great flying and an excellent ending!
This behaviour on altitude hold mode when you push the stick forward too much has been fully documented by Dustin Dunhill in several of his videos. The answer is to flip back to GPS quickly. Are you saying it did this to you in GPS mode?
Yes, it does seem they focussed on a GPS quad for easy use, and not a super flexible manual/alt hold mode.I still think something fishy went on with the overall GPS-gyro-RTH system in the 501s, but still an amazing quad compared to what else is available.
Also quick question. What SD Card are you using? I've just took my hubsan h501c up for its first flight and in all my video I have dropped frames and choppy video.

Google the Hubsan death spin or spin of death. It's a bit of a worry. You may need to update firmware but just check whether you have the s or the SS.

Drone Ffanatic yup it's a great drone but Hubsan are keeping quiet. I think the SS is secretly a fix to all this.
The SS has a modified 501A main board.

Hmmm okay. I am curious as to whether we could fit the wifi module in later. Ah well orbit mode will be nice nonetheless.
Cool flight!!! couple of wobbles but you survived !! It's not happened to me but I did upgrade to 1.6.25 almost straight after I got mine.
A Bird In The Hand I haven't upgraded the firmware yet, but now I'm considering it.
ua-cam.com/video/odEgn5WhFt8/v-deo.html watch this before you upgrade firmware.

Hah, you're right. If ONLY I can figure out a fanny pack that works! ;)

Yes, what a save!!!

I wish I could call it skill - pure luck!

Adolfo Rosado no, it did this in alt hold.
Oh, cool. Yep, if you tilt forward too much, the Gyro loses balance and it turns over. Thanks for your reply!

that seems to be exactly what happened! I need to be more sensitive with the stick to make sure I don't push all the way forward.

What are you sing to film here? Looks very smooth :)
Nick Shand Media this was just the standard camera, but I think I ran it through the warp stabilizer in Adobe Premiere to smooth things out.
