AGREED! I give this tip to anyone who travels: if you don't have a data or an international plan, stand outside of a chain coffee shop or a McDonalds. I'm American and I lived in London for a over a year. I'd frequently run out of data & pay as you go minutes but I needed Google maps and Citymapper to navigate. So I'd stand outside of a starbucks or inside of a subway station because subway stations in London have wifi as well.

I decided to go to France on vacation and all I heard was how rude they can be to Americans in particular. I look and speak 100% American. I was not deterred. I knew a woman at work born and grew up in Paris, I decided she was my info center. After awhile ,and closer to my trip, I had bought a few new items of clothes and armed with my 2 French books, I went to Paris. It has a magic other places do not and for 14 days I was “spaghetti-o’s”, Franco-American...get it... I asked directions, ordered food, spoke to people working at the Metro. Everyone was SPECTACULAR! My whole point,be respectful,be quiet, indulge in a French translation book and remember you are somewhere with a brilliant history, amazing museums and really nice people. Say please and thank you.And above all, enjoy yourself and jump on the Franco-American train! It is a ride you won’t forget!

Tina Yael Severinova M. I studied French during school,a hundred years ago. I read thru my travel books and spoke French for 2 weeks. I would ask the person I was speaking with if they spoke English. There would be a “non” and the temperature would drop. I would say “ my French is not so good so please pardon me” I would then muddle thru whatever I needed. The sun would then come out and EVERYTHING changed! The Parisians were just delightful! When I checked out of the hotel the concierge walked up to me,thanked me for being there and told me how everyone had loved my American accent! I have nothing but nice things to say about France and the French people! All it takes is respect for people their country and their culture.Plus a little effort ,manners and kindness.

Part of being a tourist is documenting everything that you do in the form of pictures, videos or maybe through journal because you are in an unfamiliar place, having new experiences, and immersing yourself in different cultures. So I don't understand why would someone is making a mistake by doing that.

I'm from Europe as well but I don't get the part about clothes. Baggy clothes and running shoes are a good choice when you travel and you walk all day. The same about wearing one style all the time. It's better to look boring than struggle with a heavy luggage. ;)
I also used to wear my backpack when I was abroad. I didn't assume that everyone's a thief but the city was full of tourists and it was very crowded. If someone steals your wallet in your hometown, you know exactly where to go and what to do. If the same happens in travel - you're in a trouble. It's ok to be cautious.

That's what tourists do bruh, they stay taking pictures of everything. The pictures being taken without consent is a no no. They dress too casual? News Flash lady, tourists don't dress up walking around your country or many other countries for that matter in formal wear, they're going to dress casually. Let's see how you dress abroad in a tropical climate in the summer......casually.

Trying not to look like a tourist is unrealistic for most of us e.g. our skin color. It’s okay to look like a Tourist - it’s how we act that’s more important than what we wear. Sadly, it seems to be a reaction to poor Tourist behaviour, or simple ignorance.
I felt so strongly about this I’ve made a video to help new Tourists become travelling ambassadors for their own country so we can all be proud of where we come from and not have to worry about blending in. Ciao.

That's right muniz, we are all tourists on the little blob of sand in the universe. Europe is no better than anywhere else in terms of manners and clothes....it's a superiority that came about when Europe ruled the world and the USA was a little pip squeak nation filled with nouveau riche trying to discover the "glories" of European 'culture'. Now, 2020, going abroad is like everywhere else...get it? That spanish chap with the torn jeans and sneakers...well...he could be from L.A., or Dallas or London or......That German was wearing a pull over with some sort of message on it....different? Quiet? You should see Spanish and French and Italian people getting drunk and screaming and dancing and doing what every other tourist does on Bourbon Street in New Orleans....different? Most European tourists, in the USA, huddle together and are not very daring or good explorers of where they're visiting....well, some are, but not too many. They are also critical of the food and the coffee and the chocolate and the domestic wines.......a lot of them are bitches and demanding and unpleasant.....sounds like their complaints of americans in Europe?
