  • Welcome to unpopular opinion podcast, in this episode we discussed the story behind the novels written by Mr. Vamba Sheriff, titled: "The Emperor's son" and "The Land of my father".
In his novel "The Emperor's son", he portrayed the story of Samori Toure, the great king of the Wassoulou empire who fought the French and the British to resist colonialism in the late nineteen century. Due to his rich knowledge about the Mandingo tradition, he unraveled the story of the Sherifs by explaining how they became part of the Konia (Mandingoes) that are found in #Liberia, #guinea , #sierraleone , #sénégal , #gambia, #ivorycoast and many other countries in West Africa. He also revealed the reason why the Sherifs are regarded as "A house of knowledge" or people who revere Education, and Literature and thus are considered a noble scholarly home all over west Africa.
In his book, "THE LAND OF MY FATHER", he described the importance of friendship between two friends with different traditional and religious backgrounds as well as explaining the way in which Liberia was a peaceful country and also the first African country to gain independence in 1847. After independence, Liberia assisted many countries in Africa in their struggle for independence but soon found herself experiencing civil war in the late 1990s with her citizens killing one another. He portrayed a Liberia he envisaged where there was no war, and the people were living in peace.
