- Generalist toolmakers, authentic or principals (large DIY stores), almost all offer multifunction pliers stamped with their brand, most of the time made in China. SNAP-ON offered one, not mobilizing its design office, contenting itself with selling an MP600 GERBER pliers painted red :) So BETA announced that its pliers were “designed and developed in Italia” :) Great fan of multi-tools, I can say that I have never seen such a heavy product, undoubtedly the heaviest in my large collection! The 1778MT is obviously made in China, at low cost and sold very expensively! What can we say about him:
- it is a tank (~ Panzerkampfwagen VIII Maus),
- too expensive compared to the competition,
- wire cutter inserts not found,
- slip sleeve joint much too flexible and of questionable durability,
- mediocre notched blade,
- painful unlocking of tools,
- small opening of the plier (20 mm max),
- ends of the pliers jaws not contiguous,
- extraction notch on one side of the file,
- clumping of tools which makes extraction levers almost useless.
Note that the tool extraction levers are quite original (but already seen on ROXON products), the sheath is good even if the introduction of the bit kit is painful.
Les outilleurs généralistes, authentiques ou donneurs d’ordre (grande surface de bricolage), proposent presque tous une pince multifonction estampillée à leur marque, la plupart du temps fabriquée en Chine. SNAP-ON en proposa une, ne mobilisant pas son bureau d’étude, se contentant de vendre une pince MP600 GERBER peinte en rouge Alors BETA annonce que sa pince est « designed and developed in Italia » Grand amateur de multi-tools, je peux dire que je n’ai jamais vu un produit aussi lourd, sans doute le plus lourd de ma grande collection ! Le 1778MT est évidemment fabriqué en Chine, à bas coût et vendu à vil prix ! A son sujet, que pouvons-nous dire :
- c’est un tank (~ Panzerkampfwagen VIII Maus),
- trop cher par rapport à la concurrence,
- inserts du coupe-fil introuvables,
- slip joint de manche beaucoup trop souples et d’une durabilité douteuse,
- lame crantée médiocre,
- déverrouillage d’outils pénible,
- faible ouverture de la pince (20 mm max),
- extrémités des mords de la pince non jointives,
- encoche d'extraction sur une face de la lime,
- agglutination des outils ce qui rend presque inutiles les leviers d'extraction.
A noter que les leviers d’extraction d’outils sont assez originaux (mais déjà vus sur des produits ROXON), l’étui est bon même si l’introduction du bit kit est pénible.

Diezelle, I have a set of Beta 42 wrenches/spanners and they are machine tite to the fastener (very little slop). So I am surprise they have a can opener in the can ribber style mainly stopped being used in the 1950's. It does look like someone was trying some new ideas but not carried out well. The ruler was different idea.
Try inserting the bit set into its pouch pocket with the Bits towards the Rear - Duh...
I quite liked it. I had hopes it was actually Italian made. For me the best part was the screwdriver arm. Leatherman could learn a thing or two from looking at this. I didn't see the point of a dedicated philips driver, that should have been a pry bar or chisel.
I like full size bits. I've had no end of issues trying to use the 2.5d ones. Saw size was disappointing and the faffing about with the blade locks was absurd. I'm not sure of the lever gimmick for the middle blades. I have a full size black Swiss tool and I have no problem getting to the other bits.
If Victorinox were to ditch the a couple of there screwdriver tool and replace it with a beefy driver like this has, it'd be a best seller. I hate leatherman as out of the box they're too stiff. I like SOG for that reason as I can just flick them open but they're designs are pants. My Vic is easy to open and close (you can't flick it) so it's the best of the bunch.
Hello, quality question: Are any of the four mini levers on the side somewhat loose? Does it make rattling noise when you shake the tool?
There is slight play on each of the four levers. When you shake the multi-tool, there is indeed a clicking noise and this is due to its games.
Did you see Mr. Kincaid's review of this on his HVAC Budget channel? I was really hoping this was made in Italy. I had my suspicions and got my hopes up. I'm not pleased all these multitools are made in China. Especially the clones of the Leatherman Wave. Everything in moderation and China does it too much. I wish we could see something from another country. France would be nice😁.

I think it's too late because of the chinese compétitors the well established market of LT and VI. Plus we have no more company capable of doing it with enough industrial power.
