    The arc of a scythe series is one of my favorite, I thought the ending of The Toll was incredibly interesting and I loved the book so much I read it in like 2 days. I’m also currently reading Red Seas under Red Skies, and love it so far

      About halfway in Thunderhead at the moment, and it has truly taken hold of me. Such an original story! Can't wait to get to book 3 - especially with the dislike of Mike's Book Review in the back of my mind.

    That’s one heck of a TBR sir lol. As is only fitting I’ll recommend EVEN MORE books for you to try lol. My recommendations are (noting only the first books in each Series here):
    The Dresden Files by Jim Butcher- you mentioned wanting to try Codex Alera and I’d be remiss if I didn’t recommend his Magnum Opus in The Dresden Files. Harry Dresden is my favorite Protagonist in all of Fiction and I wish more people would be interested in his wonderful Series. The first few of these would go under “Palate Cleanser” as a Category but the Series gets deeper, bigger, more involved, and more epic the further into it you go. The first 2 are the weakest 2 but luckily they are the shortest 2 as well lol. After I finished the first 2 books in the Series I wasn’t sure that I wanted to continue with it however the third book Grave Peril grabbed me from the very first page and wouldn’t let me go. That’s when I knew I was in for the long haul and I haven’t been disappointed.
    The Lorien Legacies by Pittacus Lore- a fun YA, Sci-Fi, and Superpowers Series that begins with the book I Am Number Four. We get to follow John Smith, also Number Four, as he deals with both the classic foils of growing up as well as the destiny he left behind on his Home Planet. This is a MUCH better Series than I thought it was going to be and I would recommend it to anyone despite its Young Adult status which is the genre I recommend the 2nd least after romance.
    Have a wonderful time reading this year!

      Thanks for all the recommendations, always welcome. Dresden, yeah. I am aware of this series (of course) and will do doubt try my hand at it sometime. The beginning sounds a bit like Discworld, which starts off very slow as well. Pittacus Lore is completely new to me. Had a look at them, and put them on my wishlist. Thanks.

    You have a glorious fantasy year all planned out! I think you did pretty well following your '24 TBR as you are a mood reader. So much reading pleasure ahead for you. Many that I, too, hope to read. I have read 2 of your TBR - The Blade Itself and Lions of Al-Rassan. You already know which I prefer 😊. My plans for 2025 will include fewer fantasy and more mysteries, historical and sci-fi. For fantasy, I do hope to read Onyx Storm (more Fourth Wing series - the best, most fun dragons so far in my limited exposure to them) and The Strength of the Few (Islington) and to continue my search for more urban fantasy like Ilona Andrews. I may try Ryan Cahill for more dragons and Temeraire by Novik (also dragons - lol) since I enjoyed Uprooted by her. I also may try Feist and both Williams, depending on my mood.
    I can't wait to hear your best book(s) of 2024! I will study my database soon to learn my best read of the year. Thank you for sharing your candy store thoughts with us.

      Less than half of my plans came true. Thankfully there is no winning or losing here ;-) Yes, First Law is not really your jam. Your consistent mentioning of Fourth Wing makes me wonder if I shouldn't pick that one up at some point. Strangely, I didn't put Ilona Andrews on the list, probably because the book I ordered hasn't arrived yet. But as soon as that one comes here, it will be read very soon. And yes, all those author I still want to get into but haven't even bought yet: Ryan Cahill, Fonda Lee, Ken Liu, Jay Kristoff, Christopher Ruocchio, Peter McClean, Brian Jacques and so on.

      @bjminton2698 Місяць тому

      So many more that I want to try as well! I am currently enjoying Light Fantastic by Pratchett and Fool Moon by Butcher. The writing in Fourth Wing is not high quality, but the dragons were the best ones I've read so far! Book #2 in that series was only fair. A Natural History of Dragons by Brennan was not my cup of tea at all. Your thoughts on Magic Bites are highly anticipated. As a reader, I want everyone to like the books I enjoy!

    I have read 60 so far this year. May squeek out another 4 by month end. Your plan for 2025 is ambitious. Alot of great ones on your list. I look forward reading the same two GGK books, as they are in my plan too.

    • @DutchGreyBeard
      @DutchGreyBeard  Місяць тому +1

      Sounds like we have similar ambitions in numbers and content ;-)

    @ilananl1004 Місяць тому

    Awesome picks! I will follow you with Memory, sorrow and thorn, The first law and more GGK books. Other plans are The faithfull and the fallen and more Juliet Marillier books. Hopefully that will also leave time to start with Riyria.
    In 2023 i started reading Robin Hobb and couldn't stop so I read the entire Realm of the Elderlings series. Hit me in the feels so many times... Liveship traders but especially Tawny man trilogy! Loved the little easter eggs throughout the series where something seemingly insignificant turned into big things in later books.
    Have a wonderful reading year in 2025!

    • @DutchGreyBeard
      @DutchGreyBeard  Місяць тому

      Thanks. Still haven't gotten around to Juliet Marillier. Wow, the entire Realf of the Elderlings! That's impressive. You have a great reading year as well!

    I got stuck in the middle of Hobb’s “dragon books,” which I anticipated having problems with. I hope to read the second two and get on with the Fitz and the Fool trilogy. I also want to read Sanderson’s Rhythm of War and Wind and Truth. I may also return to Joe Abercrombie, I need to pick back up with Best Served Cold. I read Williams’ Memory, Sorrow, and Thorn series over the past couple years and went on to read The Heart of What was Lost, all of which I loved. I could pick back up where I left off. I read many genres and another goal for 2025 is to complete more of my Virago Modern Classics collection. I have about 38 of them and have read only 14 of them. Too much of my time is spent watching BookTube instead of actually reading! I will finish reading 43 books this year, which is the least in a long time, but a number of them were chunkers (Sanderson!!).

    • @DutchGreyBeard
      @DutchGreyBeard  Місяць тому

      I have found that the number of books one reads in a year is insignificant in the end. I checked, there is a total of 718 titles in the Virago Classics Series. Scanning through all the titles I found I have read only only 2 of them (Cassandra - Christa Wolf, Wuthering Heights - Emily Brontë), so you're way ahead of me there ;-)

    I love the part of the year where everyone is making goals for the next year! It's always a fresh feeling with the clean slate of a new year!
    I really enjoyed The Toll, so different strokes for different folks I suppose.
    Tress of the Emerald Sea was my favorite secret project book!
    Once I get caught up with Sanderaon (he writes almost faster than I can read) I really wanna read some Robin Hobb!

      Me too, this planmaking the end of each year. Thanks for your words on The Toll. I have no clue of course, but I just might like it as well. Tress! Great. You're reading everything by Sanderson? Wow. Respect!

    Really amazing stack of books on your 2025 TBR. Ship of Destiny is my all time favorite book, followed by the name of the wind glad you're giving that a go despite it being an unfinished series.

    This year I plan to read "wind and truth" by Brandon Sanderson, finish the farseer trilogy by Robin Hobb, continue the first law trilogy by Joe Abercrombie, finish the winnowing flame trilogy by Jen Williams, continue with the locked tomb series by Tamsyn Muir, read "red seas under red skies" by Scott Lynch, continue with the wheel of time series by Robert Jordan, start the Riyria revelations by Micheal J Sullivan and continue with the broken earth trilogy by N.K. Jemisin. Oh also I plan on starting the green bone saga by Fonda Lee and read "the sword of Kaigen" by M.L. Wang

      Wow, many similarities on our 2025-TBR. I really wish I could read the Riyria Revelations for the first time again, and The Wheel of Time will always be dear to me.

    Straddling two very different Pratchett eras. Sourcery is light, breezy fun, Wyrd Sisters is heavily Shakespeare inspired, I Shall Wear Midnight is a titan of a book but marks his last classic for me - just know going into The Shepherd's Crown that it was his final book and his 'embuggerance' as he called it, was really talking hold and ultimately took him while still writing.

    • @DutchGreyBeard
      @DutchGreyBeard  Місяць тому +1

      Yes, I am aware that I'm crossing several subseries within Discworld. I may step away from my plan of reading in publication order, but for now I am interested in Pratchett's development as a writer. I will Shepherd's Crown with P's 'embuggerance' in mind.

    I want to read their new one, “Memory, Sorrow and Thorn” by Tad Williams, I will continue to read “Wheel of Time”, I want to finish “Expanse” by James S. A. Corey there are five books left and I will continue the “Dresden Files” cycle. So far, this is the plan.
