How to deal with a HMRC scam calls, 2020

- Having had this type of call before I thought I’d have some fun with the scam artist today.
If you are self employed and have to file your taxes please be aware of these scam calls.
They claim you owe thousands in unpaid taxes as a result of a re-audit.
Then explain you have to pay there and then to avoid your bank accounts and national insurance number being frozen.
So I have to transfer the money to a lawyer...not the HMRC 😉
The best thing is the ‘I’m not bothered attitude’ the scam artist has.
And the last scare tactic is the threat of being arrested in 15 mins.....😂😂
For the record I did not get arrested 😉✌️
Imagine the HRMC telling you “ have a blessed day”
Knew it was a scam you got thru too quickly , took me 50 mins to get hold of HMRC
And even in an Emergency to get the cop to your door in 15- 20 minutes is unlikely.
😂
Your right there Richy.
Hahahahaha
best comment on here...hilarious haha
My husband sits on the phone for hours with these people and wastes time so they don't scam some elderly person and steal their money.
He is a hero!!!
They actually did this to my poor mum and it scared her, luckily i was there and told them where to go! Shame on these people, hate them with a passion!
Lol I had same kept them on phone for over an hour and the cheeky cow trying to take my money at the end just laughed and said you didnt fall for it then. Wtf
Good for your husband! 👍🏻
What number does he call?
I died at “Ron Smith” 😂😂😂
Classic British name
He had a classic english accent too
Amazing! And your spirit came back to type a comment on the video? LOL
Me too 😂
All the time they are talking to you, they aren’t scamming someone else. Well done.
And that's why I always let the call run to the end until they disconnect 😊
dippyfish I can't actually believe people fall for these scams if you are employed by someone you would get a letter with all your personal info from HMRC same if you're self employed in which case you call your accountant first no?
@@jerryrawlings8885 There are a lot of vulnerable people out there who are easily scared. They are the primary targets of these scumbags.

I have received 3 of these recorded messages over the course of 10 days, each one getting more threatening and eventually telling me I would be arrested the next day. So far I have evaded capture and am still at large. Such a relief!!
Not a relief for average Joe public...you still at large..🤣

Ha ha I have had that crap too so far I been lucky too. Mad thing is my phone is not registered in my name it's payg so I knew it was crap from the start.
Dont worry, you wont be arrested. It takes them ages to get a visa to come to UK🤣
I was sitting in my office one day filling out some paperwork when I got a call like this, one of my colleagues was with me and we played the caller on speaker phone for about 30 minutes before I said "I'm refusing to pay" and was told that I'd be arrested in minutes, I asked if he wanted me to arrest myself as I was an Inspector in a British police force. Hung up so quickly😄
They should should have been filling the paperwork 'in' rather 'out' as you are British not American.

Luckily mum didn't, because I keep telling her mum don't speak on the phone to anyone. The government writes to you. So we should always make our elderly relatives aware.
When they call, l tell them that I record all phone calls because I have a very bad memory. They usually hang up.
I got this phone call before. I just told them that given the current lockdown situation I would love to sit in prison and have company.

Seriously, I wasn’t being literal when I wrote that region of India. I put it in simply because I don’t know any other regions of India. Sorry, Hoksworth, looks like you were right. Honestly, how can anyone tell?
I am from India and 99% of these scammers are from India, the moment I hear the accent I know the person is an Indian.
@Allan Smith Oh the Irony 😂 The person above who said they are from India has a better understanding of English grammar than you 😂 Do you not know the difference between YOU’RE (you are.. ie you’re silly, you’re crazy) and YOUR (belonging to ie your mother, your book) 👏🏻
Sorry Mate not 99 % but 1000000000000000%, unmistakable shit accent which I will always recognise. 🤧🤧🤧🤧
You come across as a very honest person. Many would distance themselves. All the calls I get are from India but I didn’t want to say that for obvious reasons. That’s why I applaud you for confirmation. The last one insulted me & hanged the phone when I question him. The previous day it was a lady. I told her to look for a decent job & she hanged up. I love how he says he's at 1 Parliament Road. Like some of the most expensive real estate in the world is being used as a call center full of Indian's for HMRC recovery... Classic :)
Actually No 1 is an HMRC building, as you look past big Ben to the river it's to the left of Parliament Sq.. It's a big ornate whitehall grand looking building..... Inside its a dump. Horrible place to be. I did some IT consultancy work in there. I expect its listed as connected to HMRC and sounds like HMRCs head office to a foreigner.
😉
I had one last year and it kept me entertained on a boring 3 hour drive from Cardiff to Manchester. As I was parking I thanked her and told her that I'll go speak to the tax inspector sat next to me in HMRC in Cardiff. I won't repeat her comments here, but it was far more fun than listening to the dismal Zoe Ball.
No one likes Zoe Ball. How does she get paid so much? She should be done for fraud. Robocalls & Indian accents have me immediately put the phone down & I’m originally from Bangladesh! Poor genuine Indian folks must think I’m really rude, can’t be helped because these fraudsters are really messing up India’s reputation

I put the phone right next to the radio and make THEM listen to Zoe Ball.

These scammers should be strung up! It’s disgusting that people believe it’s viable to waste your time like this.
Have you noticed most of these scammers have an Indian accent, don't have your name or physical address, or any other pertinent information. Just play along with them and have some fun. Tell them you'll wait at home for the police to come and arrest you!

I had a call like this a year or two ago, saying there was a warrant for my arrest for non-payment of tax to HMRC. It was an automated message, with a "press 1 to speak to an officer". I was totally thrown but knew it was wrong - because I use a tax accountant to file my self assessments - so I quickly ended the call by asking them to let me have the information in writing. Since then I've been binge watching all of Kitboga's clever scambaiting videos on UA-cam, so I'm really clued up now. Nice to see a fellow Brit is also wasting these scumbags' time!! Nice job 😊

OMG, can you imagine the HMRC talking to a citizen in that way? Brilliant video bro, well done. I get lots of automated calls from India on my landline, who say that my internet is about to be disconnected due to my ‘illegal activities’. Or my Amazon account is about to be billed by £80 (i don’t use Amazon). I always ring them by pressing on the keypad and have a laugh over them. Usually this culminated in my swearing at them, but only after having wasted a load of their time. It’s fun.
Never, never deal with anyone over the phone. Never tell them your address and ask them to send you a letter instead saying you don’t deal with these matters over the phone. Hang up.
Not even a letter. All official bodies and government agencies can be contacted. Just ask who it is and then say you will be in touch with their agency. If they try to tell you that you have to use a 'special' address/phone number/email/website then they are lying.
This is scam baiting and baiters give fake information. Basically purposefully wasting their time for good reason.

There are even scam call centres that go days without one successful scam. :) People automatically get suspicious on any call from someone with an indian accent. Even legitimate calls with indian accents, people will ask to speak to a person without this accent. I have done this myself several times when I call my bank, ISP etc. That's bad for the indian people, but they brought this distrust on themselves.
@@dg735 elderly people!
@@josephh891 Nah people won't ask would they? I was looking for ISA'S online went into a comparison website left my email phone number silly me! a perfectly well spoken english man tried to get me to buy into Vanguard bonds returns were too good to be true 10%+ the bonds had to be bought before the end of the month which was a few days away. Anyway this scammer emailed me the fake website with fake returns I then went on to the real website with no sign of the bonds or rates offered. What I'm getting at is even english accents should be scrutinised if a phone call is made to you.
I would recommend everyone puts there numbers on the telephone preference service. Not perfect but it does cut some of the crap out. Then after a month any unsolicited call is AUTOMATICALLY A SCAM until proven otherwise.
This India accent is killing me lol 😂
HMRC won’t call you they will write to you and they won’t ask to borrow from someone lol 😂
Can't trust letters supposedly from HMRC either. I've had a couple of definitely-not-HMRC scam letters.
@@Joecambrensis really what did they say?
@@S.Mir786 wanting all my details because they couldn't process my self-employed tax assessment. The last time I'd just cancelled my self-employed status and had the genuine letter to prove it.
@@Joecambrensis scary as most people would be alarmed with a letter!
That's really unprofessional for them to ask that aswell
Literally just had this phone call seconds ago and you pop up on my recommendation list. How bizarre 😂
Thanks for posting this. Hopefully it will help others watching this, especially the elderly and vulnerable to know these people are fraudsters. We need more of this. 👍👍😊
