    Good stuff, I’ve just changed the rear pads and calipers on my 156 and suddenly my brakes are working again! 😄

    Those disks look horrific. Too bad the customer didn't follow your advice.
    How much of the stopping power you reckon comes from the rear set of brakes? I installed new disks and pads up front but have yet to do so in the rear, so i'm quite interested in the possible improvement, once I do.

      @@ItaliaAutos Perhaps just video magic, the outside lip seemed very big. I saw you install Magnetti Marelli pads. What's your opinion on them? I've had the same brand on my car for about 2 years and they stop slightly worse than the likes of TRW,ATE etc in my experience.

      Calliper carrier doesn’t need to be removed. Sometimes they are really tough to removed though.

    Any tips for painting the callipers please?..
    Apart from wire brushing off loose dirt, will brake cleaner spray be sufficient to clean the surface?
    I’ll mask off pipes and rubber parts too…

    Nice vid, cheers Neil. Just one question, when compressing the piston back into the caliper does fluid work back up the system and escape through the master cylinder reservoir?

      Shaun Kelly it will overflow through the reservoir just check it when pushing it back as it will sometimes overflow.

    Top work once again, really enjoy your vids and they encourage me to tackle maintenance jobs on my own 156´s. BTW, would love to hear your experiences on the first JTS engine found in 156 and GT. Any tips how to remedy the carbon buildup all around the head / intake? Easier approach than removing the head for cleanup that is :)

      Stupidhead85 thank you. No easy way to clean it up but more oil changes will keep it to a minimum.

    Hi there, love your videos ! I have a question for you; I would like to know what I need to do > I have 166 brake claws. And want to fit them to my Gtv 916. Do you know what I need to do? I’ve understood that if I’ve had used the GTA brake callipers it was plug and play. But these are hard to get. And I have these now ( the 166 ones ). I guess I need the 166 brake discs to ? Or is this manageable with brackets ? Really hope to hear from you. Thanks 😊 🙏🏼 in regards. ( keep up the good work )

    Neil, do you know where I can get the caliper reset tool for a 147 ? I've looked on Ebay and each time it says "This does not fit your vehicle". It's a 2005 147 T spark 1.6.

    Is there a certain torque setting ideally for the calliper bolts or just firmly hand tight like you've done? - Answers my own question I guess!

    On using my piston rewind tool I noticed the seal has a couple of small holes in. Is it possible to replace the rubber seal without having to do a whole piston replacement do you know please?

      Any are normally fine. EBay special £20 will be fine for home brakes

    One question if I may?:
    What should the slider pins be greased with please? I’ve heard some greases can expand and knacker the rubber boots.
    One of my callipers is binding so it’s either the pins or the hand-brake cable I guess

      Further research I found suggests Red Rubber Grease as it's silicone based and will keep the rubber boots/ seals from cracking. Also with these brakes, some models such as my 147; the lower shorter slider pin has a rubber sleeve on it which inside the bore hole keeps it from rattling I guess. Mineral grease attacks the rubber and expands it apparently. So obvs not a good plan as it'll seize up. Silicone grease here is the way then.

    Hey Neil, hope you're having a great weekend! How much play is considered normal in the caliper? I noticed my caliper moves side to side and produces a knocking sound over bumps, should I be looking at new calipers? Bolts are tight and the play is elimited by the handbrake.

      You couldn't be able to move it really if pads are fitted and piston is pushed back out.

      @@ItaliaAutos Something must be amiss then - pads and disks haven't been touched and taken off the car the past 2 years. I just noticed it after changing my entire rear suspension, chasing a rattle. The rattle miraculously goes away when braking and I can move the caliper by hand enough to produce a distinct knock. Can relatively worn out pads cause this (around 40% life left) or it must be the caliper?

      ​@@ItaliaAutos I can feel the movement around the bolts area which hold up the caliper? Looking at the video, that's where the pins are too so I believe I've found my issue, hopefully. I still can't believe it's possible for the caliper to make such a noise over bumps - it's very loud!

    Very informative ...i need to change the discs on my 1.9 gt so the disc just needs a little wiggling and it will come out without removing the caliper carrier?

    Tiny pads. Are the Brembo versions much more expensive to maintain? I've been told they are. These standard ones seem to experience fade with a fast brake from high speeds. Be interesting to see if braided lines improve it.

      rears are still cheap. fronts cost a fair chunk more than standard setups but not overly expensive.

      @@ItaliaAutos Cool, I need to upgrade if I swapped 2.5 to 3.2. Also considering a piston and sleeve kit from Autodelta to make 3.3. With everything else stock except for a tune it should make more appreciable torque even with the auto.
