This is a priceless film; I'm so glad it's released for everyone. Gabby playing lap steel guitar is fantastic. I wish there was more, but this is fine. Thanks!

I am truly fortunate to have found this priceless video showing the great Gabby Pahinui at home with a glimpse of the family life I have only imagined after working as an electrician at Sea Life Park, meeting the wonderful folks whom I was working with that lived in Waimanalo while Gabby was alive and building his great legacy. I am excited to explore the resources of the Internet -You Tube especially -to allow me to vicariously share the precious memories of the aloha I might have experienced had I been in Hawaii earlier than 1978. Now to see if Dennis Pavao has some treasures here as well!

Gabby is a great slacker player with a Soul for Hawaiian music! I knew Eddie Pahinui. He played music as a Steel guitar Player. A close friend of Chris (Sonny) Soares. Both were in the Army stationed Schofield Barracks after Korean War. I would listen to their music till the wee hour of the morning. They had to be good, they won the music contest Lexington, NYC.
Gabby is a beautiful person! When u listen to Gabby play slack key he plays with his heart n soul!

This video is so incredible!! It showcases some of Hawaii's greatest (old-school) musicians jamming in "The real old style"! I was a DJ at KGU in the mid-70's and loved playing this music. 40-some years later, I still play it regularly in my home in Boise, Idaho. It's the "BEST"!!! Mahalo for posting it !!

7:25 it’s a word to the wise Uncle Gabby. That is very similar to initiating contact and always, remember where you grew up getting it from, a sign of respect to those that we were thought to have learn this from. Until only then, it should be up to you to carry on those tradition, with you’re ohana and you’re friends...

I was thinking when I saw uncle Eddie Pahinui at Uncle Sonny’s funeral San Diego when he asked if I remember him? He was so handsome. But I thought it was dark outside how can he see me in the dark. Haha I was a young kid listening to famous musicians. Uncle Sonny would tell me go in the house. Geez! I just wanted to listen to them playing music. Uncles friend Billie Aresta didn’t play music but stayed up n guess listen to music.
They were all in the Army Schofield Barracks. The musicians did not drink n just played music. How my uncle learned Hawaiian music? The old days, old folks would play music all night n thats how the young kids learned music. Uncles sister Rosie was the Singer. She don’t really dance hula but she can sing.

She would have been the first female singer in Waikiki.
