This clip breaks my heart for a number of reasons: first, the music is simply beautiful, in every respect. Secondly, it's so sad, knowing that we're starting to lose "the great ones." Dennis and Martin have passed and the rest of us aren't getting any younger. I used to get to Honolulu fairly often, and when I did, I spent every single Sunday evening I was there at the Marriott, listening to Martin, George and Aaron performing...could never get enough of that, and never will. Aloha 'Oe, my friends, until we kani ka pila again....
this tune sounds like a beautiful place were people have peace on their minds and love in their hearts. I often listen to this masterpiece while driving my car, and its not the vehicle that brings me to my favorite destination, but this song.
his song is one of the most beautiful that Martin Pahinui sings ... Pu'uanahulu, about a hill on the slopes of Mauna Kea which had trees and brush on it so it was called the hill with hair or feathers or fur. It was a land mmark for the paniolo as they drove the wild pipi (cattle) down the slopes of the mountain toward home. This song is aout the writer's love for this place.
Nice session. Great music, Harmonic voices, and the young masterful uke player is tasteful in his notes. Hope you are all still playing. My heart is made Happy by these sounds. No one can top Martin in my book!

+Jody Y Mahalo Jody I will post these under the video description - according to Uncle Paul Auntie's description isn't correct I am going to have to change that. I didn't want to hurt her feelings but I am assuming Uncle Paul knows what he is talking about. Aloha

PU‘UANAHULU (TRANSLATION)
Beautiful Pu‘uanahulu in its lofty realm
A land of cliffs famous for its many hills
Offer, give your love
Oh you ‘o ‘o birds with yellow feathers
The hills of Anahulu have been counted
And the name Pu‘uanahulu is given
Tell the theme of my song
