‘ likki boom ‘ Is Jamaican 🇯🇲’Patois’ meaning ‘gonna take out a snitch’. His neighbor in Toronto, Canada 🇨🇦 was a Jamaican 🇯🇲 but the neighborhood was ☘️ Irish.
He was in the East Detention Centre In Toronto , false charges for murder. He was in the joint when the song was released. I grew up in Toronto with a lot of people from the Islands so I laugh when people think he's speaking Spanish. Lol
Snow is Canadian (as am I) and I remember when this song came out. It was a HUGE hit. He grew up in Toronto and those in his neighobourhood were all from the islands (specifically Jamaica) so it's in his blood. The song is about “Informer” basically as an insult against those who he claimed “snitched on” him, which led to him doing an eight-month bid in the maximum-security Toronto East Detention Center. Owing to this, the hook of the track is based on Snow physically threatening the “informer” who got him locked down. He's singing English and a version of Jamaican patois (Creole)
"Snow says the line implies fisticuffs-“‘A licky boom-boom down’ means, like, I’ll hit down the informer; I’ll knock the informer out”-yet the music video’s pantomimed gunshots suggest something more lethal." Great reaction, brought back memories, haven't heard this song in 100 years! 😂. And yes, we used to sing "lick your boom boom down"! 😂😜😂
"lick your bum bum down" is a Caribbean term for I'm going to knock you off the planet ...or get rid of you .....to knock somebody down. He doesn't look like it but he was the real deal Gangsta in the day. He recorded this, but was actually in the can on an assault charge when it blew up and started getting airplay! Snow was charged and imprisoned for attempted murder but was later released. He grew up in a mostly Jamaican neighborhood. He's not putting on an act, this is what he listened to and was around all the time!
He was our Eminem in the early 90s. We have no internet that time and I have the cassette that will smoke rewinding just to get that lyrics of the chorus part. Darrin O'Brien is his name, he's a rap and dancehall artist from central Toronto. He is Irish, but he grew up in an area of Toronto that was mostly West Indies people (including the largest Jamaican and Trini populations outside of their own countries, in the world). He had been in and out of trouble in his youth, and was wrongfully commited of attempted murder (later acquitted), and his first album came out when he was locked up. This is his first international hit, but not his best. Some of his later albums were recorded, mixed and produced in Jamaica, and he has Beanie Man, Julie Sullivan, Buju Banton, and other famous dancehall artists featured on them. This is the highest charted Reggae song of all time (which I think it still is to this day). People like Snow and Maestro Fresh Wes paved the way for future Canadian rap/hip-hop artists.
Not sure where you got Mexican from, it's Jamaican Patois. Back in the day at boarding school, we had a kiddie from Brixton, London England. And he had a lot of music, his parents being Jamaican. He listened to and introduced us to Shabba Ranks, Snow, Buju Banton, which he described as Ragga. A mix of Reggae and rap music, a genre I like a whole lot.
@@evabartlett4599 His speaking voice is a perfectly normal Canadian accent. ua-cam.com/video/bjyimHzXKKs/v-deo.html He is as white as his cousin, Steven Page from the Barenaked Ladies. Completely fake accent for this song.
