Jazzmaster has always been and will always be my dream guitar. I have a custom, and it’s my go to for everything. When I retire and have to downsize, this will be the one guitar that you will have to pry from my cold dead fingers. 🥶
I have a Vintera 60's Jazzmaster, and I love it. It has the classic 7.25 radius on the neck and I found that I really like it. I don't even see why they call them Jazzmasters if they don't have the rhythm circuit, that is where the "Jazz" lives.
Sean was behaving himself so well I thought something was wrong. Then just past 14 minutes he finally let loose with some classic Sean stuff. Thank goodness.
I believe I built the world's first 12-string Strat back in 1970. My bandmate had a Fender Villager 12 string acoustic that was destroyed in luggage when he went to England a few years earlier. He also had a Strat. I looked at both and discovered the bolt holes for the Villager neck, which survived the destruction, were identical to the Strat's. I bolted the 12 neck onto the Strat, did some cuts in the nut and the bridge for the extra strings, and the damn thing worked and sounded awesome. He and I were in a band and he used that Strat for years. Sadly he passed about 10 years ago and I've no idea what happened to it as we were out of touch for 40 years or so.
I have the American Professional II in dark night. Love it. Great satin neck, modern switching options like the coil tap and series -parallel. The documented problem with the vibrato is not an issue for me since I use lighter strings. V-Mod II pickups may be switched out down the road by preference but you get great tones right off the bat with it. These used to be hard to find during covid. Fender upped the price since the launch (was $1599)
Got the J Mascis fairly soon after they were released. Great guitar although it is pretty heavy. One thing you didn’t mention - on that guitar (and on one or two other variants) is that the tremolo has been moved closer to the bridge, which I find make it easier to bend strings. Also the bridge itself is a tuneomatic style and the pickups are more like P90s. Actually quite a lot different, but playability is arguably improved!
Hey that's interesting to hear. I've also owned the J Mascis before and I didn't find it heavy at all. And I'm someone that doesn't like heavy guitars.
I have a jazzmaster original with Lollar regal pickups for jazzmaster. The guitar sounds amazing! It still has the sparkle of a jazzmaster but with some humbucker girth and when you switch to the rhythm circuit, the neck sounds like the neck of my 335.
I have Fender’s American Pro 1 Jazzmaster and it’s one of my fave guitars if you can handle a heavy one; the neck pickup carries me home. Limited tonal options to be sure and their QC was still terrible but still, I love it 😂
I also have a Pro 1 Jazzmaster. I actually don't find it heavy at all, and I'm someone who dislikes heavy guitars. I absolutely love how mellow that neck pickup sounds!
sorry to bother you, but i just bought a tvl jazz myself, and was wondering if like there were some downside in it, there are really few videos of this guitar, and almost no reviews od people that used it for a long while. Like how is it performing or it came with anything not particularly perfect since it's a made in mexico guitar. sorry again :)
@@__.maria._.laura.__ the only thing I would say is it’s less crunchy than I was expecting. In the other hand I have other guitars for that use. I probably play that guitar more than any other one I own. I am a big fan a year in to ownership.
I bought my first production American Vintage II 1966 Jazzmaster (with the wrong headstock style) in Dakota Red last year and I love it. The guitar at the time was priced at $2399 and went up ever since. 📈 I had to tweak my Jazzmaster (new pick-ups, Mastery bridge and vintage style lock-in tuners) and it sounds even better as a result.
When I was looking for a case for a Jazzmaster I ended up finding a case with a beautiful MIM Jazzmaster guitar. Bought the MIM. So I had to find another case. (I was going to make one in Texas Toast Guitar's workshop).
Sounded like you were going to mention alternatives. I have a G&L Tribute Doheny, got it as a B stock from their website. Similar pickups, but a strat bridge and treble and bass tone controls.
I have a 2018 Candy Apple Red Squier Vintage Modified Jazzmaster. It has a laurel fingerboard; someday I'll darken it. It's a fun guitar to play, and I generally want to play something with spring reverb and tons of tremolo. It didn't have a bag, but around 2020 I found a used SKB molded Jazz/Jag case for about 1/3 of the retail price of a new one. If the pickups were replaced, it would be with a set of Pure Vintage '65 Jazzmaster Pickups. Perhaps someday (it better be soon, I'm gettin' on) I'll have a USA Jazz or at least an MIM.
0:54 Yes I’m looking forward to the Jaguar video. Short scale gang here. 😤 (Any chance you’ll do a Mustang video? I like that they’re lighter weight than the Jaguar. #WeightWeenie)
I started with a Squier JMJM, moved to a Classic Series 60s Lacquer, bought a TVL to do a partscaster with a shredder neck, and now I'm stuck because it's getting more expensive than I expected since I'll need a bridge for the super flat fretboard.
I feel like most soap bars in the bridge are too ice-picky. I’ve been toying with the idea of modding one with a G&L jumbo MFD in the bridge- it’ll look weird, but I think it’ll be a good mix
Before I get another solidbody, I should really get an acoustic guitar ( I have a 12 string and classical, but not a 6 string.) BUT, if I were to get another solidbody, it would likely be a Jazzmaster I have considered a Squier electric 12 string. But what I would want, whether Fender or Squier would be the traditional Jazzmaster pickups, the rhythm circuit, and all the controls, with the Jazzmaster trem They are comfortable to play, and sound different than what I have. 13:07 I would pick a Jazzmaster over a Jaguar, because I have a Mustang, so the shortscale is covered for me. Although I had a dream I got a Jaguar the other night.
just replaced stock MiJ Trad II bridge pup (Fender V-Mod) with Curtis Novak Cojones. some pups look like classic JM but are very different. part of the modern JM/Offset learning curve. i will prob replace the bridge with Novak JM-V at some point but the stock bridge V-Mod just did not dew-eet for me. i originaly looked @ Vintera I/II's and TVL, I went MiJ Trad II 60's and delivered for just over 1k (small ding bridge strap button)
I would like to see a Jazzmaster with rhythm circuit, Jazzmaster single coil pickup on neck, telecaster pickup/bridge on the tail with tele circuit when not in rhythm is not engaged. Thin line body with one f-hole on top.
People kinda hate the Pau Ferro. I didn't like it either. But it's main issue for me was the wood feels to dry. What it needed was just a nice oil treatment. Once I applied some nice Danish Oil (Tung Oil works too). The result was really nice. The Pau Ferro looks great too. The oil treatment brought out the grain. I dunno. Im now not a Pau Ferro hater anymore. The Player 1 vs 2.. Man.. Im now confused. Are Player 1s now paper wieghts ? Seems like some good deals will be on reverb for the MIM Players???!!!
The current current year classic vibe/40th have great pickups. They are the only thing with "Jazzmaster" pickups until you get into the custom shop. Basically everything else has strat pickups or p90 with jazzmaster covers. I have not seen a review but I do not think it has jazzmaster pickups, I appreciate you calling them soapbars.
They are on the classic vibe/40th, vintage ii and some custom shop. Almost everything is a tall bobbin strat pickup with a jazz cover or is a p90 with bar magnets. I am waiting to see a proper review of a player ii, but I doubt it has jazzmaster coils.
Offsets? What do you mean by offsets? What's a rhythm circuit and why do I need one? I might want a Jazzmaster because they look cool-educate me on the other stuff.
It means the dips that make the waist are not straight across from each other like in a traditional Spanish guitar and the early electrified versions of them. The rhythm circuit switches over to a second set of volume and tone controls and to the neck pickup only. You need one if you need to do that, or if you want it to be cool like the originals. The other stuff: the string segments behind the bridge resonate in a strange way, the pickups are super bright and have good bass too, it's a lot of people's favorite trem system. It has odd mods and upgrades that have become like aftermarket standard mods for tinkerers to have fun with. It has issues and people like to fix (or deal with) them in their own way.
Wait - I thought we all agreed that the Duo Sonic was THE offset guitar? Funny thing is that I own a Fender Duo Sonic, a Squier Bullet Mustang, a Squier Sonic Mustang, and an IYV version of a Mustang, all purchased new, and the Fender is the only one that arrived unplayable. And none of these are Chinese made.
Why would you ignore all the high quality Fender Japan Jazzmasters?? I bought a brand new one and there are tons of near new ones online that put the US models to shame in price and quality! I paid less than $1,000 and it’s like driving a Toyota compared to a Chevy…
I have a jazzmaster neck on a strat body routed like a tele. i love any jazzmaster that does not have that awful trem hahahah I know ,I know Side note , Lizards. Back to you Bax!
P90s have nothing to do with Jazzmaster pickups, aside from the J Mascis which has P90s in a Jazzmaster cover and Affinity models which are built somehow like P90s with bar magnets underneath.
My latest and final electric was a new lefty JM AMpro2. Big fan of Elvis Costello. The amount of grief I have had with that guitar is more than any other. The switch needed resoldering so all the strings had to come off, the action was hideous so I had to fiddle with the truss rod and the bridge (not the most obvious way to adjust), the tension to hold the bar way non existent so the vibrato came off for that, and then the neck was not tightened to the body so the neck would move. I’ve barely had a problem with Gibsons and Gretsches, but Fenders have really disappointed me with QC. My Tele has also had several problems.
So I went out on a limb and I purchased the American vintage two jazz Master in red with a nice big block in lays that’s the quality on the guitar was so poor. I returned it. The side markers were placed right knobs weren’t in the right place could not get the guitar to i to stay in tune .then I played a j Mascus squire it was thousands times better
