I remember briefly hearing about reylo two years ago after tfa. I was like "what? Did we even watch the same movie?" I went to the last Jedi not shipping anyone. I was not reaching to find romance or anything of the sort. I found it impossible not to notice the obvious romantic tension between Ben and Rey, and doing more research I discovered just how plausible and symbolic their pairing is. I honestly hope there’s a sort of reylo ending, maybe not romantic, but a joining of the two as a representation of yin and yang.
Their talks via their connection were almost fanfiction style which shocked me. It’s nit a bad thing but characters forced to talk with each other over such a method with a romantic potential is so typical in fan fiction. It’s easy to see why so many are into this ship even if you aren’t and it’s one of the truly unique things in this trilogy so it draws your attention.
Same for me! Watching TFA I noticed the strong chemestry between #Reylo but (also personally shocked by the murder of Han Solo!) was afraid to be the only 1 y'know seeing this bad romance kind of attraction, or that was maybe mostly due to the actors being so well matched...but hello, it seems it's not the case, YEAH!! I can finally ship it without regrets, as the girl said on video. ;-P)
i've loved reylo since 2015, but after getting doxxed and threatened, i retreated from the fandom for a bit; tlj brought my love for it back to the forefront and i regret nothing
Hahaha! Watching TLJ in theaters I was like...every 5 minutes I had déjà vu like, "I swear to god I've read this in a fic". Force bond, confirmed. Exploding hut, confirmed. Back to back saber fight, confirmed. Kylo with no gloves and/or shirt, confirmed. Renperor, confirmed? That one was a surprise. Lol I've shipped this lowkey since TFA, high key since March of this year. The best part was finding vindication with the friends I made along the way.

I am going to say two things... First, people that speak on the behalf of abuse victims (like me) in saying that reylo is bad for them, they are 1) speaking over the voices of the actual victims by using them as nothing more than a point in an argument against something they don't like and 2) overlooking the fact that Ben Solo IS A VICTIM! He has been mentally abused by Snoke his whole life and, as someone who has been through mental abuse, that shit fucks you up. Secondly, I want to see a happy ending for a character like me. I was not a good person for most of my teenage years because of what was done to me. I was angry and just hated everything and everyone so I see my broken and unbalanced self in Ben and I want to see a happy ending for him because it'll be the light at the end of a lot of tunnels for abuse victims. Seeing someone literally go through the same hell as you and be seemingly beyond redemption being pulled back from that edge by someone (Rey) who feels love and compassion for him despite what he's done...showing victims that they're not forsaken, that they can get better...that would be one of the most compelling character arc in any movie to date. In a world of blacks and whites, I want to see a character that solidly grey be redeemed, accepted, and loved. I honestly don't even care if reylo ends up romantic or platonic, I just want to see Ben Solo happy at the end of Episode IX. Though, a nice HEALTHY romance would great *please and thank you*
If someone calls Reylo problematic I think it says more about their ability to understand and enjoy complex love stories than it does about people who ship Reylo

SPOILERS I remember watching The Force Awakens for the first time, and I thought "well their relationship is interesting. Certainly more interesting then Finn and Rey's relationship in my opinion.". But I didn't ship it because Kylo killed Han, and I thought he couldn't be redeemed after that, plus I was being to theorize they might be related. Then I watched The Last Jedi. While watching the movie, I thought their interactions had a hint of romantic tension in them. Then, the shirtless scene happened. All the while I was thinking "Why would they have that? For fan service?". Then they touched hands and I couldn't stop thinking about the ship. I kept watching, and the elevator scene happened. I thought "No way, they're so close. Are they gonna kiss? No, they can't. They might be related." And I used that theory to explain their force bond. But then Kylo admitted Rey that her parents were nobodies, and that was it for me. I thought the fight scene was so fun and they both had a lot of chemistry together. And now all I wanted was for Rey to redeem Kylo Ren and for the two of them to have a happy ending. And that's the story of how I became filthy Reylo trash.

Morality policing in fandom is so bizarre to me. I think I would have been burned at the stake for shipping Spike and Buffy back in the day had Tumblr and all these "abusive" and "problematic" objections to a fictional pairing in a fantasy world been as ubiquitous as they are today. Live and let live people!
I’ve genuinely never been apart of a ship fandom that gets as much hate as Reylo. Every day I’ve been getting literal death threats on Tumblr. All because I enjoy the idea of a pairing.
I'm not a reylo shipper and throughout watching tlj I saw the reylo moments and was like "omg the reylo shippers must be shitting themselves" cause it was totally there. I'm not about it, but I saw it.
I shipped Reylo from the first time I watched the force awakens. I read fanfiction and took to Tumblr. However, the negativity and backlash from anti-shippers (especially my fellow stormpilot shippers) convinced me that it was problematic and I set it aside. I didn't want to become part of such discourse. Watching the new movie though, I could help but ship it once more and I think this time I feel better about getting into the fandom. I view Reylo similarly to Dramione or Drarry in which it can be problematic, but there is a lot of room for redemption too. If Kylo Ren doesn't ever change, then I will stop shipping it. But that potential is what has me intrigued. Fingers crossed that this time the fandom is a bit less scary.
When I was watching the movie when the scene where Ray and Ben were fighting the red guys I thought to myself "if they're not related I totally ship them"
I am a reylo shipper, I saw it coming in TFA since their first interactions, since he removed his mask, but I didn't join any group for after he killed Han I was deceived and I thought there wouldn't be a future for them. Plus, I'm 30+ so too old to fight over ships, I just talk about the things I love and I'm astonished at some behaviors, I wouldn't dream of wasting my time hating on pairings I don't ship. TLJ was even more esplicit, way more so, so now I'm certain it will end up with them bringing balance to the force.
lol I definitely don’t see the interrogation scene as “good” but there are sexual undertones to that scene that many film analysts picked up on. Also, the fact that Rey’s interrogation and Poe’s were framed in the exact same way is supposed to shine a light on the differences. Kylo is intrigued by this girl he’s heard about and perhaps seen in a force vision just like Rey has seen him. While he extremely violent with Poe, he’s actually quite subdued with Rey. Also, when Rey wakes up, he’s kneeling before her. This is a submissive posture. Let’s get something straight. We don’t support abuse and even at the end of the last Jedi, Rey and Ben being together would indeed be unhealthy. There’s a lot of character development that has to happen for them to be able to be together. So why did we start shipping reylo after the force awakens? It’s pretty simple. We picked up on the clues and we envisioned how Rey and Ben’s stories would evolve. We could see the path that Rey and Ben’s character development was taking, and that path lead straight to each other. They are each other’s equals. It’s really quite beautiful. Edit: Wonderful video! I’m just on a reylo high right now. I can’t wait for the novelization. I absolutely loved the last Jedi and I’m so happy that Rian picked up on the subtle cues that JJ left in the force awakens.
I think there's no other way they were trying to frame the pairing OTHER than a deep connection. It's pretty clear Kylo is going to get a redemption. It would be so fucking boring to have him just be evil and kill him off for being evil. It's more powerful to go the other route. Or potentially even go down the path of sacrifice. I just find myself insanely intrigued by the pairing together, whether romantically or just as a deep connection. I think anyone throwing a fit about it should go for a walk. It's just a fictional movie. Nothing is as horrible as you make it in your own mind.
I'm a Kylux shipper but the whole movie I was just so happy for the Reylo crowd as this provides so many more possibilities for them. Unfortunately, Last Jedi was not too kind to its m/m ships. Still, can't wait to see some of the artwork and fanfics that come out of this new bond between the two leads.
I've never actually seen the film or any star wars films bc I was raised in a third world country. The fact that I even know what reylo IS is funny in itself. I like the ship though from a very outside looking in P.O.V.

I've been a reylo shipper for quite a bit. Although it's not as monumental as it is now (due to TLJ), I was slighty enamored by the thought since TFA. TFA was indeed very subtle. Other than the bridal carry (since I imagine most would leave it to the stormtroopers to carry deadweight), it was a very subtle. Kylo is def akin to darth vadar, and in fact-- its almost the Anakin we could never have. An Anakin who doubts the darkside. Now we have this character who has a heavy history, a total foil in comparison to Rey. Rey really was born from noone and nowhere, and I simply adored her underdog story. Rey is our supposed female protagonist who is emotionally capable to fufill her role. I am guilty for a good dark prince and a white dame knight. It's super cute-- and I never imagine it'd be canon in TLJ. FUCKING FORTUNATE THAT RIAN PROVED ME WRONG THOOO. Hoh shit, when u fukin realize that both Rey and Kylo never had an emotional connection to that level I just wanted to fucking screm. I don't care if their in a romantic or platonic relationship. AS LONG AS THEY HAVE GOOD FEELINGs TOWARD EACH OTHER, I AM AN OKAY BOI.
I loved the Last Jedi. I’ve been shipping Reylo since TFA, their chemistry was just amazing! This honestly reminds me of Brutasha in a way. I had been shipping it since the first Avengers movie, but the way they handled it in AOU was pretty crap. Anyone else seeing the connecting a little bit?
I must have come out of The Last Jedi with one of the rarest ships. Leia and Amilyn Holdo. I've read Leia Princess of Alderaan before seeing the movie so that just added petrol to the fire ignited by the few but powerful scenes they had together
I was all about Stormpilot after The Force Awakens, but Reylo crept up behind me and bashed me in the head while I was watching The Last Jedi. Now I can't get enough of the fan art and fanfic.
I'm writing this comment as a survivor of abuse, and I just think there's a larger issue at hand of people not fully understanding what the term "abusive" entirely means. A lot of the time I see people throwing the term around like it's nothing and because of that it gets misinterpreted. Abuse is really tricky to accurately detect when it's not at it's highest severity where the more obvious physical aspects of it are shown (e.g. a kid covering up bruises or having to lie about how they broke a bone, drunk husband beating his wife or vice versa). Abuse is intricate because it can be really subtle or it can be really up in your face, or so painfully inbetween that it's normalized and passed on from family to family to relationship to relationship. And I think a lot of the time people see something that they don't necessarily like or agree with and label it as abuse without fully understanding the entire situation. The character of Kylo Ren has a lot of anger in him, and (in my opinion) rightly so, having been abandoned and betrayed by his own family therefore never being able to find that sense of security and safety during childhood-- which ultimately leads to fear, which leads to anger, and then the inevitable Dark Side. I think people are misinterpreting his blatant anger issues that stem from unresolved childhood/adolescent trauma as abusive tendencies (granted there wasn't much Kylo character development to pull from until the Last Jedi) when actually he is a victim of a dysfunctional family, *spoiler* an uncle who tried to murder him in his sleep, and then both the vigorous mental and physical abuse at the hands of Snoke and his so-called training. People want to call Kylo abusive because he kidnapped and interrogated Rey, but they're on opposite sides of a war and that's bound to happen considering the brutality and violence that is war. Obviously the whole kidnapping thing is not acceptable in reality, but this is fiction -- which it feels like most people forget. And though fiction represents aspects of the truth, it also stretches it. And I think the whole point of the interrogation scene with a beaten and bloody Poe is to showcase how Kylo chose not to be violent with Rey. Instead of slamming her around like he did to Poe, he showed a sense of patience and vulnerability (by allowing her to see his face) in his tactics of interrogation and intimidation. But what I find to be the most upsetting thing for me is that I've seen people unapologetically attacking others for saying that they're victims/survivors of abuse. Especially on tumblr, where people are sending anonymous hate messages like "you're lying about your abuse for attention" or "it didn't happen like that" or "it didn't happen the way you think it happened" and people getting so heated that they're telling each other to harm/kill themselves. And its coming from people of all ages in this fandom, kids of 12 to adults of 50. This is just one example of victims of abuse going unseen and being shamed instead of heard and being made to feel valid. In reality, victims of abuse remain invisible more often than not. We live in a society that is so quick to scream about someone being abusive but then not actually doing anything about it to help those who are the victims. I could go on about this forever and I'm sorry this is so long but like even though this isn't really about Reylo, I support Reylo and I think that it would be lovely to see them together in either friendship or romance because people like Rey and Kylo who have been repeatedly let down and abandoned deserve some kind of love and some kind of peace. So back to my whole point of this long comment; #saveBenSolo .
Why do people always say “people are going to abuse because of this ship!” Like who the fuck slaps their girlfriend because of people on tumblr drawing two characters who didn’t initially get along kids or hold hands. I will never understand how people can get so offended by ships unless the actual shipper is being mean to people or hurting people or produces pedophilic or incestuous or blatantly fetishizing of abuse content.

Honestly how can you deny it...Daisy & Adam did such a wonderful job in the Reylo scenes that how can you *not* ship them? Then that *awesome* lightsaber battle cemented the deal. Plus this a redemption of Ben Solo, so Rey will be the key to that.
i loved Reylo after Last Jedi, before it felt like a temptation, taboo. I'm guessing George L. is still playing our minds in this intergalatic fairy tale. Since that is a fairy tale i ship them hard and hope for redemption for Ben as it was given to Anakin. It will blossom and I'm waiting for star wars unicorns everywhere in episode IX :P
People seem to forget that there's a difference between fiction and reality. I ship Joker and Harley because it makes for compelling stories not because I want it to occur in real life. Same with Reylo.
Not a Reylo shipper (or a Star Wars shipper in general) but it's mostly because Kylo Ren makes me laugh at how edgy he is. I'm honestly interested in his arc though and I hope they do him justice, whether they keep him a villain or redeem him. I'm also on the "ship and let ship" side of the spectrum, though Reylo isn't a ship I hate (there are others that are more deserving of it). I do honestly see the appeal, am not surprised at the shipping (I saw it coming in TFA), and I have my own ships that are similar so I would be a hypocrite if I was against it. Ship wars are quite the sight when you're not a part of them. Keep on shipping friends. Even when I don't like it or am disinterested in it.
I also don't ship it but it's more about just... being tired in general of the edgy boy/good girl trope in romance. I feel like I've seen this at least 50 times already. I have my own personal issues with it as well but I do think that it is immature to engage in discourse with those who ship it.
Kylo Ren's whole gimmick in The Force Awakens is hilarious in hindsight - it's so blatantly clear that his whole "look at me, I'm really dark and mysterious and badass because I wear a scary mask and black robes" gimmick was just that, a gimmick, and one that he wasn't pulling off nearly as well as his grandfather. Instead, he just looked like a stereotypical teenage edgelord whose idea of being extreme is painting his entire room black.
Yeah back when only TFA was out I would have agreed with you... Except that after the last Jedi Kylo Ren has become one of the most, if not THE most, complex and nuanced characters in the entire saga, and thus adding depth to his dinamic with rey.

I dont follow SW so i dont really have any ships, though after Last Jedi i do see where the Reylo-ers are coming from, but I think siding towards Reylo because ive seen legit arguments about it, and most arguments agaisnt it is that Kylo is a villain, which.. he is but he’s also a fictional character, last I check people love to ship their villains. I’m not entirely active in fandoms anymore but fans these days couldnt separate between whats real and whats not. Which is good, I suppose, but sometimes it made me a bit concern
I actually get the feeling that Kylo Ren is the real protagonist of this new trilogy, not Rey - he's the one getting all the neat character moments, after all.

It wasn't until the 'dont be afraid I feel it too' bit that I thought there could be any potential for them to go beyond opposing forces(and this only on like, my fifth watch on the bluray). Kylo has also been a conflicted character since the beginning, and even more so after Han's death and carried over into the last Jedi. I don't want to write spoilers in the comments, but I will say I loved TLJ and still love Reylo and hope the next film continues and brings their relationship to a satisfying conclusion.
Like...you think the writers would make Kylo a woman hating rapist if they planned on having him and Rey have a strong bond on the next movie? It’s called misinterpreting the scene because you want to be offended or can only think about abuse. Kylo is a villain but we know that he’s a lot more complex than he seems at first glance. This franchise is know for having complex villains and that’s what most films have these days - villains and heros that are more grey than black or white. So all you guys obsessed with hating fictional characters and pairings are just amplifying things to for your narrative that these movies are spreading a message that men should abuse women or whatever and that’s just not that truth.

I did not get this relationship until the last Jedi. It’s definitely there in The last Jedi. I left the Theater realizing I had just watch a heavily romantic centralized themed movie that happened to be Star Wars. I then went back to see kylo interrogate Rey from the force awakens. Wow it’s in your face right there bam delivered on a sliver platter. Now I’m not at all opposed to Kylo Ren only praying on Rey’s vulnerability to simply try to turn her to the dark side with him having no love Interest in her at all. Now I do very much adore the I idea of there being a romantic relationship between Rey and kylo Ren. It fits the story but the writers and creators of Star Wars are Genius so I’m looking forward to this whole thing playing out. No matter what is going to happen I’m excited for the next one

Ive been a Reylo shipper ever since TFA and to see SOOO MANY of our ideas and headcannons on screen was amazing. I had read literally sooooo many force bond fics with out really giving much thought to the concept or the possibility of it becoming cannon. But omg I was LIVING in the theatre through it all!
This may be an unpopular opinion but I ship reylo platonically. Mostly because I don’t think either of them need to be in a romantic relationship with the circumstances that they are under. Rey is still finding herself and her place in the world, and Kylo is still too unstable to have a stable romantic relationship. I think the thing they both need now is a good friend/mentor to help them. Since Luke couldn’t help either of them really, I think they could still help each other without being romantically involved. I feel like there connection in the movie was more so the mirroring of their powers rather than a personal relationship and I still don’t think they know each other well enough yet. Although I could eventually see them together I think for now they should just become friends and help find their place in the universe.
I also think that they are meant to bring balance to the force. I personally believe that if Rey’s parents really are nobody that she must have been born from mediclorians (how do you even spell that lol) and I think the reason she was born was to balance kylo out and that regardless of their own personal relationships their destinies are intertwined.

Yes, they still have some evolving to do, but by the end of Episode IX, we will see them as fully-developed characters completely IN LOVE with each other. Heck, they're in love with each other now! Their relationship is very much a Beauty and the Beast-type relationship. JJ Abrams and Rian Johnson didn't do all of that setting up of the past two films just have to have them be buddies. That's what Finn and Rey are. Oh no, my friend. They're lovers. The overt sexual tension and innuendos in The Last Jedi make it way too obvious. They will bring balance to the Force, and they will have babies and continue the Skywalker bloodline. I'm not even joking about that. There is also hard evidence of their relationship being a reverse Anakin and Padme, and both are linked to the Usurper and Holy Mother mythological trope. This trilogy is being heavily influenced by mythological tropes, thus truly making it the fairy tale that JJ Abrams said in The Force Awakens commentary. So, buckle up, my friend! Kylo and Rey are going on a ride in Episode IX together, and at the end of the ride, we will see them get the happily ever after that they have always wanted, and see with each other.

I've been shipping reylo since December 2015 and i think it's great that you're taking a look at both the good and bad of the shippers as well as the antis with level headedness.

And Ive been through Abusive relationships, both familia and romantic. And I can say very confidently the only actual abusive relationship in this triology is Kylo and Snoke.
I'm a Reylo, loved the movie. Plus the more I watch it, the more I see some details (like with tFA) that can mean what I hope for the end (Grey Master). It's obvious that Ben has feelings for her, you can see it, in most of his moves and Adam's acting (I love this actor so much!) I just don't know if they're gonna do it in the end... I love the movie, but will they really put them together?

I saw the potential of this ship in TFA but was thinking they were related so was not enthusiastic. However, after TLJ I'm fully on board. It is impossible to deny the romantic tension between them that was placed there by the director. My guess to the plot for the next movie is that poe will be used in a love triangle in that rey likes him as a friend and kylo misinterprets this. I'm convinced the end game will be reylo whether happy or sad ending. If written correctly this could be the otp of the star wars franchise...we'll see.

Thanks for covering this! I wasn't much of a Reylo shipper or dissenter either way before TLJ but now I see at least the potential of their relationship and I'm curious how it will go, romantic or otherwise.
I was not a shipper of anyone in the force awakens, until i ran into some reylo fanfiction. I saw their potential relationship in a new light, and became interested in how their relationship might play out. I was infinitely happy with the last jedi and how much depth they gave the characters and the ship itself. Yay for Reylo!
I was acquainted with this ship 2 years ago because of the people I followed on Tumblr who were multifandom. I also noticed the subtle tension between them in TFA and I was supportive of the ship, but didn't really get invested for the fear of being disappointed. I was actually excited to see TLJ mainly because I wanted to see what kind of interaction Kylo and Rey would have, if any, but I wasn't going to get my hopes up. After all, Rey would be spending a good amount of time on an island training with Luke and Kylo would be floating around somewhere in the galaxy. Needless to say I was pleasantly surprised and literally had my hands clamped over my mouth during all their scenes. It was so much better then I could have imagined, and even my friend who doesn't give a flying crap mentioned how inevitable their romantic relationship is.
Yes reylo! I was so happy that you did this video. I have been shipping them since the force awakens. I was so enthralled with The Last Jedi movie so including so much to this ship.
I'm one of those people that was afraid to dabble in Reylo after The Force Awakens because I was afraid of the potential negativity/disappointment. Now that The Last Jedi has come out though, I feel so much safer so I got into it. With so much more canon evidence, it's getting less critique. It just sucks that I'll have to wait two years now to see where the ship ultimately ends up.
I've shipped Reylo since 2015, and I really enjoyed The Last Jedi! It's gonna be really interesting to see what they do in the next film. Also I'm not particularly active in the reylo fandom in fear of being attacked for it :( I just look at art and read fics without putting them on my Tumblr lol. I've been thinking of setting up a new sideblog specifically for darker ships of mine tho, I think that's the solution for me.

I will say Numero Uno ship used to be stormpilot, however Rose has sort of made me feel conflicted. I love her character and I don't want her to be heartbroken. So I'm torn between Rose and Poe. However, I was Phil harder for the ship after the Red Room. The Red Room just made me fall so hard for this ship. It was Exquisite and it was so powerful. The visuals and the symbolism, it was amazing. At the end I was rooting for this ship. The artwork and the stories are amazing. I love how much creativity is coming from this. Thank you for this video. I'm glad you're promoting positivity.
I remember briefly hearing about reylo two years ago after tfa. I was like "what? Did we even watch the same movie?"
I went to the last Jedi not shipping anyone. I was not reaching to find romance or anything of the sort. I found it impossible not to notice the obvious romantic tension between Ben and Rey, and doing more research I discovered just how plausible and symbolic their pairing is. I honestly hope there’s a sort of reylo ending, maybe not romantic, but a joining of the two as a representation of yin and yang.

Their talks via their connection were almost fanfiction style which shocked me. It’s nit a bad thing but characters forced to talk with each other over such a method with a romantic potential is so typical in fan fiction. It’s easy to see why so many are into this ship even if you aren’t and it’s one of the truly unique things in this trilogy so it draws your attention.

Watching TFA I noticed the strong chemestry between #Reylo but (also personally shocked by the murder of Han Solo!) was afraid to be the only 1 y'know seeing this bad romance kind of attraction, or that was maybe mostly due to the actors being so well matched...but hello, it seems it's not the case, YEAH!! I can finally ship it without regrets, as the girl said on video. ;-P)

I am going to say two things...
First, people that speak on the behalf of abuse victims (like me) in saying that reylo is bad for them, they are 1) speaking over the voices of the actual victims by using them as nothing more than a point in an argument against something they don't like and 2) overlooking the fact that Ben Solo IS A VICTIM! He has been mentally abused by Snoke his whole life and, as someone who has been through mental abuse, that shit fucks you up.
Secondly, I want to see a happy ending for a character like me. I was not a good person for most of my teenage years because of what was done to me. I was angry and just hated everything and everyone so I see my broken and unbalanced self in Ben and I want to see a happy ending for him because it'll be the light at the end of a lot of tunnels for abuse victims. Seeing someone literally go through the same hell as you and be seemingly beyond redemption being pulled back from that edge by someone (Rey) who feels love and compassion for him despite what he's done...showing victims that they're not forsaken, that they can get better...that would be one of the most compelling character arc in any movie to date. In a world of blacks and whites, I want to see a character that solidly grey be redeemed, accepted, and loved.
I honestly don't even care if reylo ends up romantic or platonic, I just want to see Ben Solo happy at the end of Episode IX. Though, a nice HEALTHY romance would great *please and thank you*

I remember watching The Force Awakens for the first time, and I thought "well their relationship is interesting. Certainly more interesting then Finn and Rey's relationship in my opinion.". But I didn't ship it because Kylo killed Han, and I thought he couldn't be redeemed after that, plus I was being to theorize they might be related.
Then I watched The Last Jedi. While watching the movie, I thought their interactions had a hint of romantic tension in them. Then, the shirtless scene happened. All the while I was thinking "Why would they have that? For fan service?". Then they touched hands and I couldn't stop thinking about the ship. I kept watching, and the elevator scene happened. I thought "No way, they're so close. Are they gonna kiss? No, they can't. They might be related." And I used that theory to explain their force bond.
But then Kylo admitted Rey that her parents were nobodies, and that was it for me. I thought the fight scene was so fun and they both had a lot of chemistry together. And now all I wanted was for Rey to redeem Kylo Ren and for the two of them to have a happy ending.
And that's the story of how I became filthy Reylo trash.

I'm not a reylo shipper and throughout watching tlj I saw the reylo moments and was like "omg the reylo shippers must be shitting themselves" cause it was totally there. I'm not about it, but I saw it.
I was talking to my mother after movie.

I shipped Reylo from the first time I watched the force awakens. I read fanfiction and took to Tumblr. However, the negativity and backlash from anti-shippers (especially my fellow stormpilot shippers) convinced me that it was problematic and I set it aside. I didn't want to become part of such discourse. Watching the new movie though, I could help but ship it once more and I think this time I feel better about getting into the fandom.
I view Reylo similarly to Dramione or Drarry in which it can be problematic, but there is a lot of room for redemption too. If Kylo Ren doesn't ever change, then I will stop shipping it. But that potential is what has me intrigued.
Fingers crossed that this time the fandom is a bit less scary.

I am a reylo shipper, I saw it coming in TFA since their first interactions, since he removed his mask, but I didn't join any group for after he killed Han I was deceived and I thought there wouldn't be a future for them. Plus, I'm 30+ so too old to fight over ships, I just talk about the things I love and I'm astonished at some behaviors, I wouldn't dream of wasting my time hating on pairings I don't ship. TLJ was even more esplicit, way more so, so now I'm certain it will end up with them bringing balance to the force.

lol I definitely don’t see the interrogation scene as “good” but there are sexual undertones to that scene that many film analysts picked up on. Also, the fact that Rey’s interrogation and Poe’s were framed in the exact same way is supposed to shine a light on the differences. Kylo is intrigued by this girl he’s heard about and perhaps seen in a force vision just like Rey has seen him. While he extremely violent with Poe, he’s actually quite subdued with Rey. Also, when Rey wakes up, he’s kneeling before her. This is a submissive posture. Let’s get something straight. We don’t support abuse and even at the end of the last Jedi, Rey and Ben being together would indeed be unhealthy. There’s a lot of character development that has to happen for them to be able to be together. So why did we start shipping reylo after the force awakens? It’s pretty simple. We picked up on the clues and we envisioned how Rey and Ben’s stories would evolve. We could see the path that Rey and Ben’s character development was taking, and that path lead straight to each other. They are each other’s equals. It’s really quite beautiful.
Edit: Wonderful video! I’m just on a reylo high right now. I can’t wait for the novelization. I absolutely loved the last Jedi and I’m so happy that Rian picked up on the subtle cues that JJ left in the force awakens.
I think there's no other way they were trying to frame the pairing OTHER than a deep connection. It's pretty clear Kylo is going to get a redemption. It would be so fucking boring to have him just be evil and kill him off for being evil. It's more powerful to go the other route. Or potentially even go down the path of sacrifice. I just find myself insanely intrigued by the pairing together, whether romantically or just as a deep connection. I think anyone throwing a fit about it should go for a walk. It's just a fictional movie. Nothing is as horrible as you make it in your own mind.
I'm a Kylux shipper but the whole movie I was just so happy for the Reylo crowd as this provides so many more possibilities for them. Unfortunately, Last Jedi was not too kind to its m/m ships. Still, can't wait to see some of the artwork and fanfics that come out of this new bond between the two leads.

I've been a reylo shipper for quite a bit. Although it's not as monumental as it is now (due to TLJ), I was slighty enamored by the thought since TFA. TFA was indeed very subtle. Other than the bridal carry (since I imagine most would leave it to the stormtroopers to carry deadweight), it was a very subtle. Kylo is def akin to darth vadar, and in fact-- its almost the Anakin we could never have. An Anakin who doubts the darkside. Now we have this character who has a heavy history, a total foil in comparison to Rey. Rey really was born from noone and nowhere, and I simply adored her underdog story. Rey is our supposed female protagonist who is emotionally capable to fufill her role. I am guilty for a good dark prince and a white dame knight. It's super cute-- and I never imagine it'd be canon in TLJ. FUCKING FORTUNATE THAT RIAN PROVED ME WRONG THOOO. Hoh shit, when u fukin realize that both Rey and Kylo never had an emotional connection to that level I just wanted to fucking screm. I don't care if their in a romantic or platonic relationship. AS LONG AS THEY HAVE GOOD FEELINGs TOWARD EACH OTHER, I AM AN OKAY BOI.

I must have come out of The Last Jedi with one of the rarest ships. Leia and Amilyn Holdo. I've read Leia Princess of Alderaan before seeing the movie so that just added petrol to the fire ignited by the few but powerful scenes they had together

I was all about Stormpilot after The Force Awakens, but Reylo crept up behind me and bashed me in the head while I was watching The Last Jedi. Now I can't get enough of the fan art and fanfic.
I'm writing this comment as a survivor of abuse, and I just think there's a larger issue at hand of people not fully understanding what the term "abusive" entirely means. A lot of the time I see people throwing the term around like it's nothing and because of that it gets misinterpreted. Abuse is really tricky to accurately detect when it's not at it's highest severity where the more obvious physical aspects of it are shown (e.g. a kid covering up bruises or having to lie about how they broke a bone, drunk husband beating his wife or vice versa). Abuse is intricate because it can be really subtle or it can be really up in your face, or so painfully inbetween that it's normalized and passed on from family to family to relationship to relationship. And I think a lot of the time people see something that they don't necessarily like or agree with and label it as abuse without fully understanding the entire situation. The character of Kylo Ren has a lot of anger in him, and (in my opinion) rightly so, having been abandoned and betrayed by his own family therefore never being able to find that sense of security and safety during childhood-- which ultimately leads to fear, which leads to anger, and then the inevitable Dark Side. I think people are misinterpreting his blatant anger issues that stem from unresolved childhood/adolescent trauma as abusive tendencies (granted there wasn't much Kylo character development to pull from until the Last Jedi) when actually he is a victim of a dysfunctional family, *spoiler* an uncle who tried to murder him in his sleep, and then both the vigorous mental and physical abuse at the hands of Snoke and his so-called training. People want to call Kylo abusive because he kidnapped and interrogated Rey, but they're on opposite sides of a war and that's bound to happen considering the brutality and violence that is war. Obviously the whole kidnapping thing is not acceptable in reality, but this is fiction -- which it feels like most people forget. And though fiction represents aspects of the truth, it also stretches it. And I think the whole point of the interrogation scene with a beaten and bloody Poe is to showcase how Kylo chose not to be violent with Rey. Instead of slamming her around like he did to Poe, he showed a sense of patience and vulnerability (by allowing her to see his face) in his tactics of interrogation and intimidation. But what I find to be the most upsetting thing for me is that I've seen people unapologetically attacking others for saying that they're victims/survivors of abuse. Especially on tumblr, where people are sending anonymous hate messages like "you're lying about your abuse for attention" or "it didn't happen like that" or "it didn't happen the way you think it happened" and people getting so heated that they're telling each other to harm/kill themselves. And its coming from people of all ages in this fandom, kids of 12 to adults of 50. This is just one example of victims of abuse going unseen and being shamed instead of heard and being made to feel valid. In reality, victims of abuse remain invisible more often than not. We live in a society that is so quick to scream about someone being abusive but then not actually doing anything about it to help those who are the victims. I could go on about this forever and I'm sorry this is so long but like even though this isn't really about Reylo, I support Reylo and I think that it would be lovely to see them together in either friendship or romance because people like Rey and Kylo who have been repeatedly let down and abandoned deserve some kind of love and some kind of peace. So back to my whole point of this long comment; #saveBenSolo .
Why do people always say “people are going to abuse because of this ship!” Like who the fuck slaps their girlfriend because of people on tumblr drawing two characters who didn’t initially get along kids or hold hands. I will never understand how people can get so offended by ships unless the actual shipper is being mean to people or hurting people or produces pedophilic or incestuous or blatantly fetishizing of abuse content.

Honestly how can you deny it...Daisy & Adam did such a wonderful job in the Reylo scenes that how can you *not* ship them? Then that *awesome* lightsaber battle cemented the deal. Plus this a redemption of Ben Solo, so Rey will be the key to that.
i loved Reylo after Last Jedi, before it felt like a temptation, taboo. I'm guessing George L. is still playing our minds in this intergalatic fairy tale. Since that is a fairy tale i ship them hard and hope for redemption for Ben as it was given to Anakin. It will blossom and I'm waiting for star wars unicorns everywhere in episode IX :P
People seem to forget that there's a difference between fiction and reality. I ship Joker and Harley because it makes for compelling stories not because I want it to occur in real life. Same with Reylo.

Not a Reylo shipper (or a Star Wars shipper in general) but it's mostly because Kylo Ren makes me laugh at how edgy he is. I'm honestly interested in his arc though and I hope they do him justice, whether they keep him a villain or redeem him.
I'm also on the "ship and let ship" side of the spectrum, though Reylo isn't a ship I hate (there are others that are more deserving of it). I do honestly see the appeal, am not surprised at the shipping (I saw it coming in TFA), and I have my own ships that are similar so I would be a hypocrite if I was against it. Ship wars are quite the sight when you're not a part of them.
Keep on shipping friends. Even when I don't like it or am disinterested in it.

Kylo Ren's whole gimmick in The Force Awakens is hilarious in hindsight - it's so blatantly clear that his whole "look at me, I'm really dark and mysterious and badass because I wear a scary mask and black robes" gimmick was just that, a gimmick, and one that he wasn't pulling off nearly as well as his grandfather. Instead, he just looked like a stereotypical teenage edgelord whose idea of being extreme is painting his entire room black.

Yeah back when only TFA was out I would have agreed with you... Except that after the last Jedi Kylo Ren has become one of the most, if not THE most, complex and nuanced characters in the entire saga, and thus adding depth to his dinamic with rey.

I dont follow SW so i dont really have any ships, though after Last Jedi i do see where the Reylo-ers are coming from, but I think siding towards Reylo because ive seen legit arguments about it, and most arguments agaisnt it is that Kylo is a villain, which.. he is but he’s also a fictional character, last I check people love to ship their villains. I’m not entirely active in fandoms anymore but fans these days couldnt separate between whats real and whats not. Which is good, I suppose, but sometimes it made me a bit concern
I actually get the feeling that Kylo Ren is the real protagonist of this new trilogy, not Rey - he's the one getting all the neat character moments, after all.

I never saw the interrogation scene as a full shipping moment. It wasn't until the 'dont be afraid I feel it too' bit that I thought there could be any potential for them to go beyond opposing forces(and this only on like, my fifth watch on the bluray). Kylo has also been a conflicted character since the beginning, and even more so after Han's death and carried over into the last Jedi. I don't want to write spoilers in the comments, but I will say I loved TLJ and still love Reylo and hope the next film continues and brings their relationship to a satisfying conclusion.
Like...you think the writers would make Kylo a woman hating rapist if they planned on having him and Rey have a strong bond on the next movie? It’s called misinterpreting the scene because you want to be offended or can only think about abuse. Kylo is a villain but we know that he’s a lot more complex than he seems at first glance. This franchise is know for having complex villains and that’s what most films have these days - villains and heros that are more grey than black or white. So all you guys obsessed with hating fictional characters and pairings are just amplifying things to for your narrative that these movies are spreading a message that men should abuse women or whatever and that’s just not that truth.

I did not get this relationship until the last Jedi. It’s definitely there in The last Jedi. I left the Theater realizing I had just watch a heavily romantic centralized themed movie that happened to be Star Wars. I then went back to see kylo interrogate Rey from the force awakens. Wow it’s in your face right there bam delivered on a sliver platter.
Now I’m not at all opposed to Kylo Ren only praying on Rey’s vulnerability to simply try to turn her to the dark side with him having no love Interest in her at all.
Now I do very much adore the I idea of there being a romantic relationship between Rey and kylo Ren. It fits the story but the writers and creators of Star Wars are Genius so I’m looking forward to this whole thing playing out. No matter what is going to happen I’m excited for the next one

Reylo is my fav (well actually C-3PO x R2D2 will always be my favorite ship ever, but you know they're Droids so there is not exactly going to be kissing it's just accepted that they have a great Droid relationship and oh my gosh they're so CUTE!) and seeing the scenes in The Last Jedi between Rey and Kylo was like YES!!

I like Rose but I don't think Finn even noticed that she liked him romantically. Does she even like him romantically (is there a slight hero-worship thing going on?) is that happening? I know that she kissed him but kissing doesn't mean romance all the time so what?

Ive been a Reylo shipper ever since TFA and to see SOOO MANY of our ideas and headcannons on screen was amazing. I had read literally sooooo many force bond fics with out really giving much thought to the concept or the possibility of it becoming cannon. But omg I was LIVING in the theatre through it all!

This may be an unpopular opinion but I ship reylo platonically. Mostly because I don’t think either of them need to be in a romantic relationship with the circumstances that they are under. Rey is still finding herself and her place in the world, and Kylo is still too unstable to have a stable romantic relationship. I think the thing they both need now is a good friend/mentor to help them. Since Luke couldn’t help either of them really, I think they could still help each other without being romantically involved. I feel like there connection in the movie was more so the mirroring of their powers rather than a personal relationship and I still don’t think they know each other well enough yet. Although I could eventually see them together I think for now they should just become friends and help
find their place in the universe.
I also think that they are meant to bring balance to the force. I personally believe that if Rey’s parents really are nobody that she must have been born from mediclorians (how do you even spell that lol) and I think the reason she was born was to balance kylo out and that regardless of their own personal relationships their destinies are intertwined.
Wibby You can bet your sweet bippy that they're relationship is romantic, and will be at the end of Episode IX. Yes, they still have some evolving to do, but by the end of Episode IX, we will see them as fully-developed characters completely IN LOVE with each other. Heck, they're in love with each other now! Their relationship is very much a Beauty and the Beast-type relationship. JJ Abrams and Rian Johnson didn't do all of that setting up of the past two films just have to have them be buddies. That's what Finn and Rey are. Oh no, my friend. They're lovers. The overt sexual tension and innuendos in The Last Jedi make it way too obvious. They will bring balance to the Force, and they will have babies and continue the Skywalker bloodline. I'm not even joking about that. There is also hard evidence of their relationship being a reverse Anakin and Padme, and both are linked to the Usurper and Holy Mother mythological trope. This trilogy is being heavily influenced by mythological tropes, thus truly making it the fairy tale that JJ Abrams said in The Force Awakens commentary. So, buckle up, my friend! Kylo and Rey are going on a ride in Episode IX together, and at the end of the ride, we will see them get the happily ever after that they have always wanted, and see with each other.

And Ive been through Abusive relationships, both familia and romantic. And I can say very confidently the only actual abusive relationship in this triology is Kylo and Snoke.
I'm a Reylo, loved the movie. Plus the more I watch it, the more I see some details (like with tFA) that can mean what I hope for the end (Grey Master).
It's obvious that Ben has feelings for her, you can see it, in most of his moves and Adam's acting (I love this actor so much!)

I saw the potential of this ship in TFA but was thinking they were related so was not enthusiastic. However, after TLJ I'm fully on board. It is impossible to deny the romantic tension between them that was placed there by the director. My guess to the plot for the next movie is that poe will be used in a love triangle in that rey likes him as a friend and kylo misinterprets this. I'm convinced the end game will be reylo whether happy or sad ending. If written correctly this could be the otp of the star wars franchise...we'll see.

I was not a shipper of anyone in the force awakens, until i ran into some reylo fanfiction. I saw their potential relationship in a new light, and became interested in how their relationship might play out. I was infinitely happy with the last jedi and how much depth they gave the characters and the ship itself. Yay for Reylo!
I was acquainted with this ship 2 years ago because of the people I followed on Tumblr who were multifandom. I also noticed the subtle tension between them in TFA and I was supportive of the ship, but didn't really get invested for the fear of being disappointed. I was actually excited to see TLJ mainly because I wanted to see what kind of interaction Kylo and Rey would have, if any, but I wasn't going to get my hopes up. After all, Rey would be spending a good amount of time on an island training with Luke and Kylo would be floating around somewhere in the galaxy. Needless to say I was pleasantly surprised and literally had my hands clamped over my mouth during all their scenes. It was so much better then I could have imagined, and even my friend who doesn't give a flying crap mentioned how inevitable their romantic relationship is.

I'm one of those people that was afraid to dabble in Reylo after The Force Awakens because I was afraid of the potential negativity/disappointment. Now that The Last Jedi has come out though, I feel so much safer so I got into it. With so much more canon evidence, it's getting less critique. It just sucks that I'll have to wait two years now to see where the ship ultimately ends up.
I've shipped Reylo since 2015, and I really enjoyed The Last Jedi! It's gonna be really interesting to see what they do in the next film. Also I'm not particularly active in the reylo fandom in fear of being attacked for it :( I just look at art and read fics without putting them on my Tumblr lol. I've been thinking of setting up a new sideblog specifically for darker ships of mine tho, I think that's the solution for me.

I will say Numero Uno ship used to be stormpilot, however Rose has sort of made me feel conflicted. I love her character and I don't want her to be heartbroken. So I'm torn between Rose and Poe. However, I was Phil harder for the ship after the Red Room. The Red Room just made me fall so hard for this ship. It was Exquisite and it was so powerful. The visuals and the symbolism, it was amazing. At the end I was rooting for this ship. The artwork and the stories are amazing. I love how much creativity is coming from this. Thank you for this video. I'm glad you're promoting positivity.
