    Today we are back at it taking a look at the Supcase Unicorn Beetle Pro case for the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra. I’ve been saying it for a while now, I’m a fan of the Supcase UB Pro cases, I bought some before I started reviewing cases and I’ve kept on using them for various phones. The Supcase UB Pro cases are known for ultra smartphone protection, incredible durability, nice designs, and importantly, being priced very competitively in the market. For the UB pro here we have a two-piece case model with two frame options. You can opt for an open front frame if you would prefer no screen protector or to use your own but, Supcase also includes a front frame with a built-in screen protector which I’m most interested in, and I think definitely increases the overall value of this case. Both frame options get installed essentially the same way, the front frame snaps onto the front side of the S24 Ultra. This piece is used to interlock the main case body to hold it in place. When the top frame is locked into the main case body like this, it forms an extremely strong connection that will definitely hold up in drop scenarios. Whether or not you choose the screen protector or open frame, both frames will provide screen protection in flat surface drop scenarios. The frame extends 2 or maybe even 3 millimeters past the height of the screen. This means that if you drop the phone on the kitchen floor, the basement floor, or at the office, the case will make contact with the impact surface first which should help absorb and redistribute the impact forces. This will greatly reduce your risk of damaging your shiny S24 Ultra. As I said, I’m a fan of the screen protector frame, I think having a perfect fit and easy to install screen protector being part of the package is awesome. It’s a good thickness and features a specially designed fingerprint area to help ensure your fingerprint still works.

    I can't stand how all these companies are being so lazy with the one giant cut out for the cameras. It's so hard now finding a good rugged case with individual camera cut outs.

    • @MobileTested
      @MobileTested  6 місяців тому +2

      To be honest, I haven't seen too many (or any actually) companies produce cases with individual lense cutouts. I have seen companies include essentially a lense cover in the past. Anecdotally, I have used this larger camera cutout style case for years and have had a relatively good experience with my cameras and the lenses never being damaged.
      Did you have any other particular cases in mind that offered the type of protection you are looking for?

    • @wilazn
      @wilazn 6 місяців тому +4

      @@MobileTested so far the only rugged cases I've found with the individual cut outs are the Magbak and the dbrand grip. My problem with the giant cut out is dirt and dust accumulating inside that area and it's hard to clean. Also it getting inside the case causing micro scratched between the case and back of the phone. I'm a big fan of supcase here also and used their cases in the past but the giant cut out for the Samsung ultra phones stopped me from using them.

      @@wilazn Ah I see what you are saying, and yes, I have noticed the bit about cleaning as well. I regularly take my cases apart and clean for a few reasons so this isn't something that I had consciously thought about because I do it so often. I haven't heard of Magbak so I will have to check them out. I'd love to work with dbrand, I'll try contacting them to see what I can do, I'm curious about this now!
      Did you order an S24U by the way? I see other comments saying pre-orders are starting to trickle in.

      @@MobileTested yep I pre-ordered. I got shipping info yesterday, but FedEx only shows it as label created. No update yet. I bought a few cases on Amazon to try out and returning the ones I don't like. The Magbak won't ship out till Feb 5th ETA. So I need something in the mean time.

    I have the Supcase UB Mag XT case for my S24 Ultra and this case but the Fold version for my Fold 6. I was all UAG for my cases for my S22 Ultra and my iPhone 14 Pro Max, but switching to Supcase this time around and I’m honestly loving it. They’re a bit cheaper and so far seem even more protective. I do miss the Kevlar and Leather cases UAG used to have and still have a Kevlar case on my 14 Pro Max.

    • @MobileTested
      @MobileTested  19 днів тому +1

      Hey! Nice choice in cases there, phones too, ha! I've really been enjoying what Supcase has to offer, I always try to test them out on each major phone release. It's been a long time since I tried any UAGs but this is a common theme in my comments section, people either feel priced out of those cases or feel like the value from the Supcase cases is very similar. Leather and Kevlar does sound kind of nice though :)
      Are you into phones or are these a collection of phones in the family?

    I used to love this case till I found out the hard plastic piece actually damages your phone when you drop it. Think about it. It’s hard plastic, it’s not like it’s soft rubber. Even the outer part with the rubber it’s thin rubber. Nothing thick or soft about it so there’s nothing on this case to soften the impact your phone takes when dropped

    • @MobileTested
      @MobileTested  6 місяців тому +1

      Do you mean that the plastic backing damaged the gorilla glass? I'm not saying I don't believe you but I find that hard to imagine - anecdotally I have dropped multiple Smartphones in Supcase UB Pro cases with this design and have not experienced that.
      I would say that the backing if these cases are thick compared to most other cases but I would agree, they aren't soft on the inside - I have seen some companies implement a felt material on the inside of the case.
      As for the impact, that depends on how the phone calls I would think, the sides, top, bottom, and the corners are relatively well protected because of the TPU bumper.
      What kind of case are you using currently?

    • @LilGrimey5Star
      @LilGrimey5Star 6 місяців тому +3

      @@MobileTested no, not the back, the front and back were fine. Im talking about the first piece you put on the phone, the front hard plastic piece that grips around the phone. When I would drop my Galaxy of especially my iPhone I would get scratched from the piece that was gripping the phone. Now I currently use the Spigen tough armor because it’s all rubber. There’s no hard plastic on it except on the outside part of the case. And I love how it has the soft cushion inside the case for padded protection. I do miss Supcase but the closest case I’ve seen they have that doesn’t have a hard plastic piece holding the phone is the XT case with the camera cover/stand.

    • @MobileTested
      @MobileTested  6 місяців тому +1

      Ah I see. I haven't seen any scratching like that on my S23U with the Supcase UB Pro over the last 5 or 6 months, I don't recall what my S9 looked like, it had loved a very long life in UB Pro but I haven't owned the phone in a while.
      I haven't tested a Spigen case in a while, maybe I'll reach out and see if I can work with them on a current gen review. I'm general I remember them being a little less substantial as you mentioned but if it works, it works.

      For your like of work, a tempered glass screen protector might not be a bad idea protection wise but it will increase the difficulty for fingerprint unlock (likely) especially if your hands aren't clean. I would at least use a plastic material if this matters but if your main goal is just protecting the screen, a solid 9H rated tempered glass screen protector is the way to go.

      On the Supcase UB's, yes, there is generally no camera door element. I've seen some nicer magnetic doors that I've liked on other cases but I've seen some that are not implemented well. I'm torn on the camera doors, I don't know how durable they are long term of you're tough on your phone but, they are obviously a protective barrier and they should as another person pointed out, help keep the lenses and lense area cleaner for longer.
      I'm actually considering trying to come up with a test methodology for testing these camera doors since many people seem to be interested in them.
