Ya, have you been up recently? It was a madhouse on Wednesday. Closing Tombstone meant disaster for the rest of the mountain. Lift lines are normally reasonable, but NYD they were 20-30 minutes. Ugh. Going up tomorrow, maybe some of the holiday crowds have thinned out. Hoping for a quick resolution to the strike. All love and respect to the patrollers.
As somebody who is local and has skied park city consecutively for 15 years now (I’m coming next weekend) I’ve always wanted to keep a positive attitude despite the ups and downs the resort will go through. Whether it would be the financial battles of a decade ago, Covid-19, the staffing shortage of 21-22 or the Strike right now, I have always been able to have a good day despite the Achilles heels because I can always find a way around lift lines, even if it means taking a long fixed grip like Daybreak or Dreamscape or some isolated places like Super Condor, 9990 or even Jupiter. Trust me, any resort will always have drawbacks but that doesn’t mean negatively/hate is the rightmost and natural approach. I will always love Park City for what it has given me even if it’s not much
The only controversy I have all along is the PC Planning Commission cancelling the Eagle and Silverlode Projects at the last minute. They said that they were concerned about more traffic coming to the resort which meant parking had to be expanded. However I disagree because Park City has already fulfilled that statement with increasing crowds, plus as the years go on, Silverlode and Eagle will only get less reliable which would mean more downtime and more expensive repairs to the point of a catastrophic part failure (think the old Skyliner at Mt Bachelor where it had that happen which was why it got replaced) The NIMBYs and the Town Counsel need to rework their wires because lifts are only gonna keep being unreliable unless drastic changes and replacements are made, especially now that the 2034 Olympics are now on their way. Silverlode is already a frustrating congestion spot since it directly accesses the upper mountain and the cancellation would only keep putting pressure on it. Eagle also can get long lines due to race training and direct access to King Con if people avoided Payday or Crescent.
fer sure. Fingers crossed that they can figure this thing out. But, the good news is that Epic has opened the door for some good road trips this season- I already have booked weekends at three gigantic mountains that I haven't skied in 20 years, and two or three more that I've never skied. It'll still be a kick ass season.
I’m glad you’re still making the most out of your PC trips despite the crippling circumstances going on with the Ski Patrol Strike
