@@COLDSTONEytI do it successfully with 2 inch pipe pliers with 45 degree head. It grips easier and needs less room than pipe wrench. By the way, in my country 14 inch pipe wrench can grip 2.5 inch diameter max., while pipe pliers can 3 inch. My oil filter is 2.75 inch diameter.
@@igorpotocnik7231I did not use the pipe wrench fully opened for removal.I put an old belt in the opening of wrench and used that to loosen, yes to took up a lot of space but I only needed to break it loose
@@COLDSTONEyt OK, at least it worked for ypu. I couldn't use your method, because I can hardly squeeze my bare hand down there, so the pipe pliers are ideal for being thin and long and having wide jaws with sharp teeth which really dig in the filter surface.
I use an old mouse pad... The grippiness works perfect in most situations. And it's flexible so it can fit in tight spaces. Sometimes you can just "push" it with it wrapped around the filter.
you wanna know another way of removing a stuck oil filter. Add the new oil, after figuring out the oil filter stuck. Start the motor, once nice and hot, remove or loose the oil filter, while the vehicle running. Turn off the vehicle and remove the old oil filter. You only lose a bit of an oil. check the dip stick.
I've got a gorilla grip, so they say, and couldn't loosen the first filter I changed when I bought used car. That pos excuse of mechanic really tightened that poor filter (and all the bolts on car, like lug nuts and brakes bolts...). I practically lifted the front of the car with my hands on the filter and it didn't budge. What helped was 2 inch pipe pliers.
Oil filters are hard to get out because of the positioning. If you have room for this belt nonsense, you have room for other PROPER tools that can get the filter out
Great Idea..Thanks! Just replaced my serpentine belt last night. Guess I’ll keep the old one..help clutter the wall if nothing else.😂 Appreciate the info. 👍👍👌
It might work with enough clearsnce in the engine bdy. Otherrise, channel locks, (chained) vise grips, or a screw driver to impsle the oil filter will hsve to do.
You just saved my ass bud!!! Well my uncle's ass really he's the one that obviously put it on too tight/ wrong, either way it's coming off now, tjx👏👏👏👏👏🫵👍
Great idea but you forgot the part where on most cars you aren’t gonna have that much room around the filter to work with
happened to me n all i did was remove from right tire to get more room
This worked in the junkyard with my 14 inch pipe wrench and old belt lol

Wish I had that much room where my oil filter is.
If they ever mount a filter in the wide open, this is perfect.
Yeah I'm sure that will work a lot better than the strap wrench I had already been using.
That would be pretty difficult underneath the car in tight spots but good idea

I haven't tried the mouse pad but I do have the grippy things for cans or jars that won't come off, I got a few in the garage lol
Oil filter tool, their cheap, buy it.
Never do the ghetto screwdriver method. If you can't get it off that's a bad day lmao
Good stuff dude! Cant pay you enough for that ingenuity!
I used my Gucci belt that don’t fit me no more, works perfectly 👍👍
Bro if you can afford a Gucci belt surely you can buy a oil filter wrench
@@justindaniels17 I got one now, but I didn’t have one at that moment, lol common sense
@@andreshernandez9970 🤣😂😂 lol gotta use what you got
Good idea if you can get to it.
That's the first thing I thought. That's why I have an assortment of tools to do this.
And 99.9% of the time the ones u can't get to are stuck.
They make a strap type oil filter remover that you can use with a rachet
Yup or just buy a strap wrench 😂
But then you're paying for a new tool, which defeats the point of having a free DIY solution...
Thanks. used an old belt. Worked better than the two I just bought.
Saw my grampa do the same thing but with a bungee cord. Or a tarp strap depending what you call it
Fat men like myself will take off our leather belts and use that.😂
Only problem is the placement of that filter on most VW and Audi … no room for all that 😂
Thank you for sharing, genius thinking!
I’ll have to note this one, I got the wrench but this is nice to know if I need it thank you 👍
Brilliant. Thank you for sharing
I'll try it sometime, looks good
Thanks. Great idea.
Nice tip. Thanks.
DUDE! thank you
I wish i would have thought of that. I used a belt before, but with a crescent wrench
I use my waistline belt for over 40 years
Use oil filter pliars works better
I had the actual tool for it and it sucked. Got a vice grip style one and it worked absolutely amazing
l like the driveway fix just bang a screwdriver through it and turn
Yes, because everyone has an extra serpentine belt around.
Looks like part of the sending unit is still attached to that filter
How many miles before you change the oil filter on your vice?
😂😂👌👏
I've always jammed a screwdriver through it, but to each their own

So...your running new oil with an old dirty filter...yea..brilliant idea! LOL...there are a ton of ways to get them off with out doing this?!
What size wrench
Perfection!
Or just use your manly hands always works for me

讚喔~聰明耶!
Piece of sandpaper for the win!
they should make an actuall tool like this! lets call it a band wrench
Oil filters are hard to get out because of the positioning. If you have room for this belt nonsense, you have room for other PROPER tools that can get the filter out
Theres already a thing like that its called a oil wrench
This would never work for a filter that's actually STUCK.
Great Idea..Thanks! Just replaced my serpentine belt last night. Guess I’ll keep the old one..help clutter the wall if nothing else.😂 Appreciate the info. 👍👍👌
It won't work like how he's showing it, you make double loop around filter and pull on one side to turn it
Its work in video only
That’s an OLD trick I’ve seen many times over the years!
That's it! (dropping my coffee cup) Now I'm pissed off...Thanks.
Thank you ❤️
or... just use a strap wrench???
Dope,
Did that oil filter belong to nothing lol
Wish it was that easy i got a 96 xj and there not alot of room at all it a bitch to even get a oil filter wrench in it to cant get it off ever nothing
Excellent idea. I wish I knew that last week.
I just use my belt
Good for tightening when you can’t get your fingers in properly.
Im lazy and dong give a fuq. Hammer and screwdriver for me. Plus no drippy drip on you if you punch right
I like it! Will try that next time just to rate how well it works. Thanks
Called a oil filter wrench duh!
no space...
This is the best idea!
Thumbs up
Or... Hear me out... You buy a "strap wrench" 🤦
This is LOL stupid! It's fine in a vice, how about when you're underneath the car and can't get at it
It might work with enough clearsnce in the engine bdy. Otherrise, channel locks, (chained) vise grips, or a screw driver to impsle the oil filter will hsve to do.
Pamp not work done
Lol
Never worked
Or be professional and spend $11 for a Lisle LC63500 Strap Wrench.
Audi lol
Or you can use an actual oil filter 🔧 wrench. SMH 😒
Oooooooh shit
I love little simple things that solve big problems. This is engineering at its best.
American ingenuity
Work every time
This shit don’t work
Show me under the car not out and on a vice
Jesus fuck. Just buy the right fucking tool!
You just saved my ass bud!!! Well my uncle's ass really he's the one that obviously put it on too tight/ wrong, either way it's coming off now, tjx👏👏👏👏👏🫵👍
I bought one. it's a cool tool. but one day I may not have it with me. 🪶
